As part of the Minnesota Residency 10th Race Feature Contest, any resident who wins this race will be awarded their choice of a homebred. This week two residents have entered, Kirby and Baggio. The race is named after Scooby Jupiter a B rated mare owned by vb and rickbell. She won 8 times in her career, all on the turf. She had over 544K in earnings in a career that never saw her visit the grass in Minnesota.

1. DANA’S MAGIC(KY) -mindtwins -K Bowen- 3/1

Dana’s magic hails from the infamous Lawdro Racing Stables. This daughter of Borrego has raced twelve times on the grass winning four of those tries. Her last five have come over the lawn but she is only one for five in those with the win coming in an allowance. She has tried graded company during this stretch, a race in which she picked up a minor check coming in 5th. She traveled in from Queensland for that race and has just started touring the States. She makes her way to Minnesota for the first time today. She posted a lifetime best 96 speed figure last out over six furlongs. Bowen, who has the knack of riding the right horse, has the mount. She likes to be on the lead so you should be able to tell early whether she has a chance.

2. MISORIO(IRE) -stable92 – A Annika- 48/1

Dydalt of the GR send this long shot in from Idaho. She was purchased in the auction for just over 50k not so long ago and has only raced once under Dydalt’s colors. In 12 lifetime turf races, this daughter of Oratorio has three wins, though all were in much weaker fields than this. she has not posted a speed figure higher than 74. She has, however, ran twice in Minnesota including once over the turf. Experience over this grass seems to be important but unfortunately Misorio did not seem to like the grass here in Minny coming in 8th that day. Annika, whose having a surprisingly excellent season gets the ride.

3. ALIANTE(KY) -baggio- J Ritorto- 4/1

Baggio send this AP Indy from his flagship stable in an attempt to win the 10th race feature price at Minnesota Downs Residency. He certainly has an excellent chance with Alliante. She has won 4 of 8 turf tries, including one of two since being claimed for 150k by baggio. Last out she attempted a stakes, but posted a disappointing 4th in North Florida. She has broken the three digit barrier for speeds two back at this distance and this race may be an indication as to whether that was a fluke or if there are more good things to come for Baggio. I hear that jockey John Ritorto is selling rockets to help boost his rides in Minnesota, but that may just be an ugly rumor started on the backstretch.

4. NIGHTHAWK HUMOR(KY) -4nighthawk – K Friar – 5/2

Ojai Valley Stables, owned and run by our own Kirby55, allows this Distorted Humor mare to return to Minnesota. She ran here two back in an allowance and lost by less than a length. She most recently won the race in North Florida that Alliante comes out of posting a respectable 94 speed figure. Looks like Baggio and Kirby will have a nice rivalry going, should Nighthawk Humor be defeated by Alliante. she is a versatile mare who has won 3 times on each surface. She has 215K in purse money thus far. Friar the top jockey has picked this horse to help bring her one step closer to the jockey championships.

5. MARIANA’S TEJANO(IND) -mariana2 – A Beasley – 17/1

RASH. You may not like them, but they are here to stay. Ace brings in Mariana’s Tejano, daughter of…..you guessed it Tejano. she has won twice in seven tries on the turf, but both wins were over longer distance than she runs today. Her biggest race came two back in a stakes race in Florida where she placed and put up a respectable 84 speed figure. She seems to be a little out classed today, but if she can get to the front early there is no reason why she can’t maintain the lead throughout. Beasley, a jock that tends to fly under the radar, gets the mount.

6. LA GRAN VERDUGA(KY) – verdugos – E R Cothill- 4/1

Haack of the fine Hispano Parlante residency brings this daughter of Giant’s Causeway to Minnesota for the first time. She was only switched to the grass three back, but has certainly responded with a stakes win and two other solid races. The 98 speed number jumps off the page from her King Puppet try in Wyoming last out. Capable Cothill will try and steer and will likely stalk the leaders until the stretch. Dangerous.

7. LAST BEST CHANCE(PA) – mayflowers-C Boothroy- 9/1

Fortune500 and his 19% winning percentage always has to be given consideration in a race like this, even if Last Best Chance is 9/1. Boothroy – today’s jockey- told me that this filly had a ton of potential. She is a daughter of Attorney. Although she only has one career win on the grass, was recently a 2.5k claimer and has never broken the 90 speed figure barrier there is still a lot to like. She like the front so expect her to be amongst the early leaders.

8. TROPICAL WESTERLY(KY) – bulddog – O Stinson – 5/1

The unaffiliated stables of Glenrohan (please come check out the Minnesota Residency Glen, we’d love to have you) switches this daughter of Tropical Storm to the turf for the first time today. Her Dirt numbers would put her right amongst the leaders here, but without evidence that she can run on the lawn it is hard to bet on her. The majority of Tropical Storm’s progeny have liked dirt in the sim, so i don’t think this surface switch will work. However, I have certainly been wrong about these things before and glenrohan needs to see for himself which surface she’ll like better.

Chuck’s Picks
Win: NIGHTHAWK HUMOR(KY)
Place: Yepes(KY)
Show: Bux R Back(WV)

What’s Happening in Minnesota?

Focus this week in mainly on Smackdown as Minnesota tries to represent. Whatever happens I am proud of my fellow residents on the amazing team we put together. The residents quite unselfishly volunteered their best sim horses, altered their training schedules and plans, and nominated them for the event. Kudos goes out to all on a job well done.

In other news, Dundey has restarted the fantasy stable contest Darnath has opened up a commanding lead in the world tag contest. We are still looking for quite a few MIA residents. If your one of them..won’t you please consider coming back home? 🙂

[2

post-6236","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-previews
["GET
