The highlight of our graded stakes this week in Queensland is the Dalesbark Cup. The Grade III race will be going off as the fifteenth race on our Saturday racing, just prior to the restricted Crocodile Hunter Memorial Cup. The Dalesbark will be run over six and one half furlongs over the turf for a total prize pot of $150,000. The race is bound to sport some of the nations top up and coming two year olds, as well as some potential top juveniles in the world at the moment. The weather is expected to be pleasant at a high of around 72 degrees. It is expected to be cloudy on race day, providing plenty of cover from a hot sun, without the disadvantage of a yielding track. Last year\u2019s winner of the Dalesbark Cup was Dark Passage (ENG)<\/b>, who is trained and owned by super21<\/i>. The current stakes record set for the Dalesbark Cup is 1:17 1\/5 which is currently held by Ray Of Pye<\/b> in 2001 and was equaled again in 2004 by General\u2019s Chariot<\/b>. Due to the two year old age restriction, neither of these great horses will be running again this year in the Dalesbark. However, this years Dalesbark Cup will present a brand new crop of two-year-olds, ten to be exact, that will be taking part in this year\u2019s cup.
1. Bang Bang (AUS)<\/b> – kiwihawkz<\/i> – P. Kayes – 17\/1
On the rail will be this marvelous light gray filly (Gunpowder (AUS) x Monarchos x Saint Ballado), who is out of the mare The Others. At 17\/1, the filly is the highest price on the board and also one of only two fillies running in this Saturday\u2019s race. Her last start came last month over a good turf track in the Queensland Slipper Restricted where she finished third by one and a half lengths with a speed figure of seventy-two after setting off the pace in mid-pack and being sent forward to make her move in the final furlongs, only to come up short. Previously, and in the same month at that, the filly had won the Queensland Filly Juvenile over five and a half furlongs by two lengths. The light gray filly has never finished off the board in any race and she has never raced outside of homeland here in Queensland.
2. Godly Quality (AUS)<\/b> – seplatt01<\/i> – M. Radke – 9\/1
Next is another Aussie native, this a spectacular chestnut homebred colt, (God\u2019s Own x War Emblem x Gulch). The chestnut colt scored his first victory in his maiden debut by three-fourths of a length here in Queensland over a five and a half furlong turf course. The colt\u2019s second start came in New Zealand during an allowance caliber race where he finished third and finally to his allowance win overseas in Newmarket during the Woody Ash Special where he blew the field away by a length and set up a lifetime best speed figure of seventy-seven.
3. Black Cat Bone<\/b> – sgtbones<\/i> – M. Cameron – 5\/1
Coming from halfway across the world is this Flying W Ranch raced brown colt, (Forest Wildcat x Kingmambo x Seattle Slew), who is out of the Grade I winning mare, Bella Figura. The Kentucky-bred colt saw his last start last month in the six furlong Little Ones Juvenile (G2) where he finished just in the money in fifth, although only two and a half lengths off the pace and recording a lifetime best speed figure of seventy-five. This start in the Little Ones Juvenile (G2) has been the colts only defeat of his short racing career, including a victory in the Your Dancer Stakes in Tasmania. The colt will be taken a step down in class back to listed stakes races for this start here in Queensland in hopes that the colt will get another finish on the board.
4. Your Soul Will Die (ENG)<\/b> – jimmyv24<\/i> – V. Lofton – 7\/2
Betting favorite at pre-race print time was this Kaif Stables colt, (Pivotal (GB) x Sadler\u2019s Wells x Kingmambo), who is out of the stakes placed mare I Prefer. The English-bred bay colt has only had one race prior to his entry in the Dalesbark Cup. This came last month in Hong Kong in a five furlong maiden special weight. The bay colt struck out of the gate in the lead but lost his edge on the field a few furlongs before the wire when he was overtaken by another colt to finish second by half a length, though recording an impressive speed figure of seventy.
5. A Skunk Vice (JPN)<\/b> – skunkbred3<\/i> – C. Wyatt – 7\/1
In the middle of the field will be this Japanese-bred chestnut, (Alkaased x Vice Regent x Creme Dela Creme). The Skunkbarn Stables owned colt made his last start in the Little Ones Juvenile (G2) along with Black Cat Bone<\/b>. The Japanese A Skunk Vice (JPN)<\/b> managed a little better in his first graded stakes start, coming up with a second place finish after finishing a length back with a speed figure of seventy eight. The colts only other starts both resulted in wins for the chestnut colt, these coming in an allowance caliber race and during his maiden debut. With the colt being graded stakes placed he is bound to get some action at the betting window this Saturday.
6. Dylan Tom N Jerry (IRE)<\/b> – lgbost6<\/i> – S. DeBerg – 9\/1
Following and drawing the sixth sloth is this Lgbost Stables raced chestnut colt, (Dylan Thomas (IRE) x Montjeu (IRE) x Rainbow Quest). The Irish-bred colt is out of the stakes placed mare, Tete Morningrise (IRE). The colt\u2019s last start came last month in Tasmania during the Alot Darn Handicap over five and a half furlongs over a good turf track. The colt finished two lengths back in third during the race, setting a depressing speed figure of sixty -six after his demolition of the field in his previous race. This start, a maiden special over six furlongs in New Zealand, brought the chestnut colt into the limelight when he blew away the field by one and three-fourth lengths with a speed figure of eighty.
7. Doute The Mechanic (AUS)<\/b> – jarrod2<\/i> – I. Harvey – 6\/1
In the seven slot is this Corza Stables owned chestnut Australian-bred colt (Redoute\u2019s Choice (AUS) x Testa Rossa (AUS) x Grand Lodge (IRE)), who is out of the race winning mare Thousand Ferraris (AUS). This chestnut Australian-bred and based colt made his first and only start overseas in Dubai over six furlongs on the turf. The colt won the race by one and three-fourth lengths after setting off the pace, stalking the leader and passing the other colt by as the field came for the wire. The colt set a speed figure of seventy-four for the race.
8. Rainbow Party (ENG)<\/b> – siriusflit<\/i> – C. Simien – 6\/1
Next up in the field of two year olds will be this entry by Nextbonus Racing, (Green Desert x Rainbow Quest x Kingmambo), who is out of the graded winning mare Long Cool Rainbow. The English-bred chestnut colt has had two races so far in his young career. His first came in New South Wales over five and a half furlongs where he won by one and one-fourth lengths after coming from off the pace in mid-pack. His last start came in May during the six furlong Queensland Slipper on a good turf course. The filly lost a photo in this race, losing by a nose with a speed figure of seventy-five. At 6\/1 she is the second of two fillies in the Dalesbark Cup this Saturday.
9. Chic Shock Horror (ENG)<\/b> – slim<\/i> – P. Guyton – 6\/1
This chestnut colt (Pivotal (GB) x Secreto x Mr. Prospector) is raced by Tees Stables and is out of the graded placed and proven stakes producing mare, Secret Prospector. The English colt has only had two starts so far in his career, both of which have ended with he colt finishing on the board. His debut race came in a maiden special over five and a half furlongs overseas in Japan where the chestnut colt won by a length with a speed figure of seventy-eight in his first start ever. His second and only other start, the colt came to the gate in an allowance caliber race over six furlongs in Epsom. The colt broke out of his inside post in third, made his way briefly into second, but faded again to third at the wire on the good turf track while setting a speed figure of fifty-five.
10. Sisson\u2019s Teo (IRE)<\/b> – moonbeam<\/i> – T. Phillips – 7\/1
In the far outside post is this Binzaman Stable owned and trained bay colt, (Teofilo x Elusive Quality x Nureyev). The bay Irish colt has had a total of two starts so far in his career. His first start came over five and a half furlongs in Athens over the turf. The colt won the race in wire to wire fashion with a speed figure of sixty-eight in his racing debut. His only other race came last month in the Alot Darn Handicap over five and a half furlong on a good turf track in Tasmania. The colt won again in wire to wire fashion over the off turf track with an even more impressive speed figure of seventy-one.
