This week we are taking a trip down under to Victoria-Australia where we have the G1, Sydney Cup as one of the headlining races this weekend.  The race will be at the distance of 10 furlong and will be across the firm turf this Sunday afternoon.  The race is restricted to 3 year old and older horses and we have a full fourteen horse field of contenders.  The morning line odds have been released and the post positions have been drawn.  Let us now take a preview of the fourteen horses that will be running in this year\u2019s G1, Sydney Cup in Victoria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coming out of the inside gate we have this 4 year old Bay Colt that was sired by Al Kazeem (AL KAZEEM (GB) x AUSTRALIA x DEEP IMPACT).  He has been running very well for the owner in his most recent races at the allowance level.  Last time out we saw him on the track in Berkshire on 02\/14\/2023 going 9 furlongs in a $50700 NW1s Allowance race.  He closed very nicely down the stretch after being over seven back at the third call.  He went on to get up for the win by two and a quarter with a 109 speed rating.  This Sunday will be his first trip to the track in a graded race.  He needs to bring his best of efforts against this experienced field when he heads over to the turf representing the East-West Connection residency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is a 6 year old Bay Gelding that was sired by Black Onyx (BLACK ONYX x SADLER’S WELLS x KINGMAMBO).  This horse had some nice races last season which included a win in the G2, The Second Coming.  He has not found another trip to the winner’s circle since that outing but did have some nice trips to find the boards.  Last time out he would find difficulty in his first race to start off the 2023 season when on 01\/14\/2023 he would go out in California to run in the G2, Marcos Footwear Handicap.  He looked flat and sluggish that day and was never a factor when he crossed the wire well back in ninth.  He gets a familiar jockey in the saddle this weekend and the owner is in hope to see his horse rebound this weekend with a good trip when they head out of the paddock representing the Hoosier Racing residency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next, we have this 4 year old Bay Colt who is a scratch bred (FRANKEL (GB) x DIXIELAND BAND x FASLIYEV).  His three most recent starts have all looked pretty nice and he has been running some very nice looking speed ratings.  Two starts back he ran a 120 speed and came in second in the Senor Football Turf Special.  He then returned to the track for his most recent race on 02\/11\/2023 in Queensland where he would travel 9.5 furlongs in a Listed Stakes, Celtic Legend Turf Challenge.  It did not take him long out of the gate to find his way to the lead of which he held all the way to the wire.  He picked up another nice win with a 119 speed rating.  He gets his first graded start this weekend and the owner is in hope to see some more big speed ratings this weekend out of his horse as they make their way to their post draw representing the Midas residency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is a 4 year old Bay Colt who is a scratch bred (AMERICAN PHAROAH x SEATTLE SLEW x SECRETARIAT).  Last season this horse was switched over to the dirt and he took to that right away.  He also likes the turf and is a double threat on the track.  He has yet to place in any of his graded outings but has done well running at lower levels of competition.  Last time out we saw this horse race in New York on 02\/17\/2023 on the dirt going 9.5 furlongs in a $70200 NW5L Allowance.  He stayed fairly close to the front in the early going, but when ask for more effort down the stretch he would pull away and get up for the win by two and a quarter strides with a 115 speed rating.  The owner is giving her horse another big graded opportunity this weekend as she brings her horse back to the turf here in Victoria.  They will saddle up and head out in the post parade this Sunday representing the Empire State Racing residency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coming out next we have this 5 year old Bay Gelding that was sired by Teofilo (TEOFILO x MONTJEU x KRIS S.).  Two starts back this horse had a big race in Hong Kong as he got the win in the G1, King Kong Cup.  He was then sent out for his most recent race in New Zealand where he would go 10 furlongs in the G2, The Second Coming.  He would have a fairly flat race barely moving from the spot he found coming out of the gates.  He would go on to cross under the wire in sixth with a 113 speed rating.  This horse has shown better in the past and the owner is looking for his horse to find a better trip this time out when they head over to the turf representing the DelPenn National residency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here we have a 5 year old Bay Horse that was sired by No Nay Never (NO NAY NEVER x MONTJEU x SEEKING THE GOLD).  Last year in July this horse had a nice run to pick up the win in the G3, The Chicago Handicap.  Since that time he has not found another win and has only hit the boards once.  Last time out would be pretty much the same when he ran here in Victoria on 02\/12\/2023 going 10 furlongs in a $78000 Allowance race.  He was looking good in the early going but by the time of the third call he would begin to fall back from the leaders in this race.  He crossed under the wire in fourth but was well back with that effort.  This horse needs to be ready to show some improved effort this weekend as he moves back up in class to represent the Empire State Racing residency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is a 5 year old Bay Gelding that was sired by Camelot (CAMELOT (GB) x REDOUTE’S CHOICE x SEEKING THE GOLD).  Last season this horse picked up a graded win in the G2, The New York Stakes and followed that up with a win in the G1, The Champion Stakes.  Last time we saw this horse on the track was on 12\/03\/2023 in Hong Kong where he would go 12 furlongs in the G1, King Kong Vase.  He would have a rough trip at this distance and was never a factor when he crossed the wire in tenth and was well back with a 107 speed rating.  The owner has cut some distance off as he brings him back out for this start on Sunday.  I would think going 10 furlongs he might show up with a better performance this time out when he heads to his gate draw representing the GR Simsters residency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next we have this 5 year old Bay Horse that was sired by Oasis Dream (OASIS DREAM (GB) x FASTNET ROCK (AUS) x MR. PROSPECTOR).  This horse had a few good races last season and found a win in the G3, Chosen Stakes and in the G1, Jolly Summer Cup.  After that G1 win he would have a couple of training races in South Africa and then come out to run his most recent race on 01\/28\/2023 in South Africa going 10 furlongs in the G1, Mr. Met Cap.  He put up some effort in this race, but it was only good enough to get him under the wire in fourth with a 114 speed rating.  The horse should be in good condition as he comes into this Sunday\u2019s race and the owner is in hope to see a big performance out of him when they head out of the paddock representing the Down Under Racing residency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here we have a 5 year old Bay Gelding who is a scratch bred (DUNDEEL (NZ) x DEEP IMPACT x DANEHILL).  This horse had been improving nicely for the owner in allowance races.  Then two starts back he gave him an opportunity to run in a Listed Stakes, Make Me Forget Turf Route of which he made a gate to wire trip with a 114 speed.  He was then moved up in class again for his most recent start in Japan where he would go 9 furlongs on 02\/18\/2023 in the G2, The Nakayama Handicap.  He would give another gate to wire performance this time out and post a very respectable 118 speed rating.  This horse gets moved up in class again this weekend to run in his first G1 race.  The owner is in hope to see more ongoing improvement in his horse when he sends him out at post time representing the GR Simsters residency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is a 5 year old Bay Horse that was sired by Beach Patrol (BEACH PATROL x GALILEO (IRE) x MONSUN).  Two starts back this horse found a win in a Listed Stakes, Black Hank Turf Route.  He was then sent out for his most recent trip to the track on 02\/04\/2023 where he would go 10 furlongs in New Zealand in the G3, National Stakes.  He made a good closing effort in his stretch run but fell short of hitting the boards as he crossed the wire in forth with a 112 speed rating.  He gets another graded opportunity this weekend to try and find his first graded win. He needs to bring that big closing effort again and hope for a little better result when he comes out this weekend to represent the GR Simsters residency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here we have a 5 year old Bay Gelding that was sired by Le Havre (LE HAVRE (IRE) x FRANKEL (GB) x KINGMAMBO).  In this horse\u2019s most recent races he has been running exceptionally well for the owner and has not missed hitting the boards since April of last year and he picked up four wins and a second place finish in the process.  He found a win in the G3, The Rennen Classic and was second in the G1, Eclipse Stakes.  Then came his most recent start on 01\/28\/2023 where he would go 10 furlongs in South Africa in the G1, Mr. Met Cap.  He was all business again when after the third call being back in seventh, he found a new gear in his stretch run to get up for the win by two strides with a 120 speed rating.  The owner would like to see his horse get a second G1 win in a row this weekend when he is sent out to represent the Empire State Racing residency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next out we have this 5 year old Bay Gelding that was sired by Castledale (CASTLEDALE (IRE) x BUCKSPLASHER x TABASCO CAT).  This horse has been run well for the owner picking up a Listed Stakes win last season in the Pharchat Turf Route and he hit the boards in several other listed stakes races.  Last time out he was moved up in class to come out on 02\/26\/2023 in New Zealand going 10 furlongs in the G2, The Second Coming.  After the third call he made a big closing effort in his stretch run as he made up a lot of ground.  Unfortunately, it was not enough as he crossed the wire in fourth with a 114 speed rating.  He is being given another big chance in another big race this weekend and with a little added effort his owner hopes to see him on the boards in a graded race for the first time.  They will saddle up in the paddock and make their way out at post time representing the Great Plains Residency 2011.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here we have a 5 year old Brown Horse that was sired by Bricks And Mortar (BRICKS AND MORTAR x KITTEN’S JOY x DYNAFORMER).  This horse has yet to win a graded race but three starts back he came in third in the G1, The Roberto Clemente and was third again in the G2, Cities Cup.  Last time out he would run in South Africa on 01\/28\/2023 in the G1, Mr. Met Cap.  This would not be one of his best trips as he hit the wire in sixth with a 113 speed rating.  The owner is in hope to see a big effort out of his horse this Sunday and at least find another big hit on the boards when his horse breaks from his gate representing the Empire Stakes Racing residency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coming out of the far gate will be this 5 year old Bay Gelding that is a scratch bred (RIP VAN WINKLE (IRE) x SYMBOLI KRIS S x SADLER’S WELLS).  This horse has a couple placings in Local Championship Stakes races.  He has one prior graded start and that came in his most recent race on 02\/04\/2023 in New Zealand where he would go 10 furlongs in the G3, National Stakes.  He was doing very well in the early going but could not hold on to his position as they ran down the stretch for the wire.  He would finish up sixth in this race with a 111 speed rating.  He will need to show up with a little added effort and stamina when he faces this field of contenders on Sunday.  The owner is in hope to see a big effort out of his horse when he brings him out at post time representing the European Union Racing Organization residency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
