Coasting down the stretch, the colt posted a speed figure of 96.4 enroute to fourth victory in his last five starts. This was his seventh career victory in his twenty four starts, and also his second quite impressive stakes victory in his last three races. The win jumps him into the top 100 older Long Turf runners, giving him a rank of 97 in this very tough division. This colt looks poised to make a serious run up through the ranks in this very tough division. Handicappers aren’t retiring after this one, but there was a little profit to be had at the betting windows this week. The winner paid $4.70 $2.70 $2.10 across the board. The exacta payout was modest, at best, paying $21.00, but there was a bit more of a bright spot in the trifecta, with a $107.80 payout.

The break was tight in this one, with three of the six horses in the field vying for the early lead. Sword Song managed to get a head out front, but Tarabeel(GB) and Pirsquared(MI) weren’t giving him any breathing room, pressing him all the way to the half post. He was able to extend a scant quarter length lead to only a half length at the half, with the rest of the field four lengths and beyond behind him. The furious effort took its toll, though, and the second half of this one belonged all to the closers. Dutch Harbor(JPN) made up nine and a quarter lengths between second and third call to pass the flagging leader, with filly Ramira(KY) waeving through horses on his tail. Dutch Harbor(JPN) simply ran away with the last quarter, and while Ramira(KY) kept him honest, she never really posed a threat late, as the colt cruised home to the four and a quarter length win. Sword Song held on to keep third place, eighteen and three quarters lengths out at the wire.

[3

post-6047","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-reviews
["GET
