Don’t forget, though, that there will be plenty of other exciting races on the card Saturday, including the $500,000 Grade 1 race, The COSINE CUP. You will find it as Race 7 in your program and it will feature 3 year old fillies going at it for 7.5 furlongs on the dirt. We have a closely matched field. Many of the horses have faced each other in earlier races and we have a few that this will be their debut on American soil. It should shape up to be another exciting race on a very exciting day.

Let’s meet the field.

Post Position: 1

STORMSPECTOR 3yo mare (Storm Cat x Mr. Prospector x Buckpasser)

<COLGROUP><COL width=84><COL width=91><COL width=81>

STABLE

TRAINER

JOCKEY

Balata Untrained Again

titleist

N Lawton

December 22, 2007 was the day this mare began her racing career. Her first race was a 6.5 MSW on the dirt. With a nice speed of 81 for her first time out, she began making her move halfway through the race and it was all her at the wire, 3 lengths ahead of the rest of the field. 3 weeks later she was entered into a 9.5 furlong Allowance race. By the third call she was in the lead but was unable to hold onto it and was second under the wire. Realizing that she may not like the longer distance she was then entered into two 8 furlong Allowance races. With a speed of 89 in the first and then a 97 in the second, it looked as if she would have taken the win in both races if they had been a bit longer. Instead, she had to settle for 2 more seconds. So she was then entered into an 8.5 furlong ungraded Stakes race. Her jockey kept her for most of the race but as the wire neared, she couldn’t keep a hold of the lead and finished in third, 2 lengths back from the lead. The decision was then made to try her in the 7 furlong Grade 3 DELPENN BEAUMONT on April 12, 2008 in East Kentucky. Apparently tired of her second and third place finishes, she exploded on the field with a speed of 107 to be the first under the wire by a nice lead of 2 ½ lengths. Her odds this Saturday are 7/1.

Post Position: 2

KOTTON KANDY 3yo mare (Cryptoclearance x A. In an 8 furlong MSW, she was first under the wire a very nice 4 lengths ahead of the rest of the field. Her next start was a 7 furlong Allowance race. She lurked just off the lead for most of the race and at the wire, had taken over and won the race. She was then shipped to France for her first try at an 8 furlong ungraded Stakes. By the third call she had begun to make her move and once again took the lead to be first under the wire by 1 ¾ lengths. She stayed in France for another ungraded Stakes race, this one a 7.5 furlong in the mud. Although her speeds continued to improve, she wasn’t able to get out of second place and therefore, she had her first loss. With that, she was shipped back to Germany for a 6 furlong ungraded Stakes. Whether it was the trip or her run in the mud, something had slowed her down to a speed of 56 in that race and she finished sixth, 15 ¼ lengths off the lead. She was granted a month and a half break before racing again in a 9 furlong ungraded Stakes. She fought to hold the lead for the entire race, but at the wire, she just couldn’t hold onto it and finished second, just ¼ of a length back. April 12, 2008 was her last time out. Tired of not being the first under the wire, she hit a speed of 97 and by the time the wire flew over her head, it was all Kotton Kandy, 2 ½ lengths ahead of the field. The race this Saturday will be her first race on American soil. The handicappers seem to feel that the trip may take too much out of her and have given her odds of 18/1.

Post Position: 3

MEAN GIRL 3yo mare (Came Home x Machiavellian x Storm Bird) Dam – Regina George

<COLGROUP><COL width=210><COL width=230><COL width=198>

STABLE

TRAINER

JOCKEY

Topicount Stables

gg

F Gossett

Mean Girl started her career on an off dirt track in March 2007 in a MSW for 6 furlongs. The mud didn’t seem to bother her and she won by 1 ½ lengths. She then went on to two ungraded Stakes races, both at 6.5 furlongs. The first of the two she was fourth under the wire and in the second she grabbed the win by a head. She then faced CK Ghost Prospect, another horse in the race this week, in the Grade 1 HOSERHEAD JUVENILE FILLIES. Unable to pull it together, she finished seventh, 5 ¼ lengths back. It wouldn’t be until the Grade 2 WALNUT TREE STAKES when she would bring home her third career win in October 2007. Since that time she has been consistently run in Grade 1 races at different lengths between 7 and 8.5 furlongs. She would even compete against another horse in this field, Miscalculation, on 2 occasions but she has been unable to capture a win since her October win. Her last time out was April 12, 2008 where she finished ninth, 9 lengths off the lead. Her career high speed is 100 and if she can shake her losing streak and improve upon that speed, she may have a shot here this week. The handicappers feel as if she may just do that and have given her good odds of 7/1 for this race.

Post Position: 4

SAINTE CHAPPELLE 3yo mare (Chapel Royal x Danzig x Northfields) Dam – Aspiration Me

<COLGROUP><COL width=209><COL width=231><COL width=198>

STABLE

TRAINER

JOCKEY

Lsumark Stables

whitby

K Bortz

Sainte Chappelle began her racing career in the sloppy dirt back in March 2007. The track conditions didn’t seem to have an affect on her as she brought home the win ¾ of a length in front. It was then off to an ungraded Stakes race, a 5.5 furlong sprint in the good dirt. She tried her best to catch the leader but there just wasn’t enough room and at the wire she was second by ¼ length. She was then taken to two 6 furlong ungraded stakes on the fast dirt. A second and a third is how she finished for those two. It was time to try her out in the 7.5 furlong Grade 3 DR. SHUT-YER-LIPS JUVENILE. Once again, she just didn’t have enough time and finished second by a head. So trainer whitby decided to try her at the slightly longer distance of 8.5 furlongs in the Grade 2 MARGARINE STAKES. She was definitely off her game that day and finished eighth, 10 ½ furlongs behind the winner. She raced in two more ungraded Stakes races in 2007 but could only get a second and a third. In February 2008, she was entered into 6.5 furlong ungraded Stakes on a sloppy track. Whether it was the 2 month break or the sloppy track, something perked her up and she finished first. The Grade 3 CADOKA STAKES was her next stop. In this 7 furlong race, she accomplished her career high speed of 103 and was first under the wire, giving her her first graded win. Her last race was the Grade 2 PEBBLES FLINSTONES STAKES where she competed against CK Ghost Prospect. She placed ahead of CK Ghost Prospect but failed to get the win, coming in second by ¼ of a length. The handicappers give her odds of 8/1 for this race.

Post Position: 5

MINISTER OF HUMOR 3yo mare (Distorted Humor x Deputy Minister x Secretariat)

<COLGROUP><COL width=85><COL width=85><COL width=85>

STABLE

TRAINER

JOCKEY

Right at Home Stables

bandinni

B Renfroe

October 2007 was when this mare first began racing. She started in a 6.5 furlong MSW on the sloppy track, but the wet mess proved to be no problem for her. She grabbed the lead right from the start and finished the race 2 ¼ lengths ahead of the rest of the field. Immediately following that victory, she was entered into two 5 furlong Allowance sprints. She would bring home two more wins for her efforts. Trainer bandinni then decided it was time to try her in an ungraded Stakes for 6 furlongs. Once again, she grabbed the lead from the start and refused to relinquish it to anyone. That made it four wins in a row. It was time to try her in a slightly longer, 8 furlong, ungraded Stakes. She made it look all too easy as she led the field the entire race and was first under the wire. After doing so well in ungraded it was time to try her out in the 8 furlong Grade 3 WE GET SIGNAL STAKES. The first half of the race she wouldn’t back off the leader and never strayed further than a head behind. The second half she took over the lead and was standing in the winner’s circle for the sixth time in a row with a high speed of 103. Her last race was on April 12, the 8.5 furlong Grade 1 LOOL STAKES. True to her style, she led the way most of the race but in the end she couldn’t hold onto it and began to falter, placing fourth, 6 lengths off the lead. With 6 wins out of 7 races she has a good shot at bringing home the win here in Kentucky this week. She held second the entire race, including under the wire. Her next race was a 5.5 furlong Allowance. After fighting for the lead early, she took it over and didn’t relinquish it for the rest of the race. At the wire she was ahead of the field by 1 ¾ lengths. The third race that she ran in would be her first ungraded Stakes attempt. By the third call she had managed to pull ahead to take first but she wasn’t able to hold onto it and finished second by a head. The next two races were ungraded Stakes races as well, one at 6.5 furlongs and one at 7. In both races she lead the way the entire race and took the win in both as well. On September 22, 2007, she competed in her first graded Stakes, the Grade 2 MARGARINE STAKES where she also ran against Sainte Chappelle, another horse in this week’s race. She managed to finish ahead of Sainte Chappelle but she was fourth under the wire 5 lengths back. So it was back to an 8.5 furlong ungraded Stakes. She took the lead from the start and at the wire was 3 ¼ lengths ahead of the pack. With that race she captured her fourth career win. Since then, however, she hasn’t been doing too well. Her best finish was a second in the Grade 1 SUNNY FLORIDA. Her last time out on March 29 in the Grade 2 FANTASY STAKES she achieved her career high speed of 98 on a sloppy track which makes me wonder if it was just a coincidence or perhaps she actually prefers an off track. She sat back in seventh until halfway through when she made her move and at the wire had taken over first by ¾ of a length. It was then off to three ungraded Stakes races, two at 7 furlongs and one at 6, but the best that she could do was a second, 1 ¼ lengths off the lead. Not giving up on her, trainer larsonisti decided to try her in the 8 furlong Grade 3 REFLECTION FUTURITY. She finished 3rd, 2 ½ lengths back. It was then back to an ungraded Stakes for 8.5 furlongs. She held on to second for most of the race but at the wire she was 3 lengths back in fourth. Thinking that maybe Stakes races just weren’t her thing, her trainer then tried her in a 7 furlong Allowance race. She was closing in on the leader and at the wire she just barely missed the win by a head. So, maybe it was the distance that was giving her problems. Her next race was a 6 furlong ungraded Stakes. She decided that she had tired of losing and halfway through the race made a bid for the lead. She got it and finished the race 1 ¾ lengths ahead of the rest of the field, bringing home her second career win. Her last time out was on April 5 in the Grade 1 HELLO MAMA SPECIAL, where she competed against two other horses in this weeks race, CK Ghost Prospect and Death’s Door. With a career high speed of 97, she finished ahead of CK Ghost Prospect but behind Death’s Door in sixth. She finished exactly the same in both, second by ¾ of a length. Trainer lopo then decided to try her back at 6 furlongs in an ungraded Stakes. With her speeds improving and seeming to like the 6 furlongs, she passed the field to take the win by 1 ½ lengths. Her next race was another 6 furlong ungraded Stakes where she seemed to make her move a little too late and came in second just ¾ of a length behind the leader. It was decided to try her in a 6.5 furlong ungraded Stakes to see if the added distance would make a difference but once again she couldn’t pull it off and brought home a third. Her last two races were both 7 furlong graded stakes, the Grade 3 CADOKA STAKES where she came in second behind Saint Chappelle and the Grade 1 HELLO MAMA SPECIAL where she came in third ahead of Downtown Fargo and CK Ghost Prospect. Her odds this week are 7/1.

Post Position: 10

POMEROY’S QUEST 3yo mare (Pomeroy x Coronado’s Quest x Wild Again)

<COLGROUP><COL width=85><COL width=85><COL width=85>

STABLE

TRAINER

JOCKEY

Right at Home Stables

pointblank

T Bates

Pomeroy’s Quest began racing in April 2007 in a 5.5 furlong sprint on the dirt. She placed fourth in that race and wouldn’t break her maiden until her fourth race, a 6 furlong MSW. After placing second in her next race, a 5 furlong Allowance, trainer pointblank decided to give her a go at a 6.5 furlong ungraded stakes. She fought valiantly to take the lead but in the end it just wasn’t enough and she finished the race in second, 1 ¾ lengths back. Her next try was a 7 furlong ungraded in October 2007. She seemed to like the slightly longer distance better and came home with her second career win. It’s been a bumpy road for her since then. After an unsuccessful trip in a 6 furlong ungraded Stakes, she was sent on to race in the 7 furlong Grade 2 YANTA SNEZ STAKES. She placed third, just 1 ¼ lengths behind the winner, Miscalculation. It was then time for a try at the Grade 1 CIRCUSHAM DERBY. Once again, Miscalculation got the better of her and she placed second, 1 ¾ length behind Miscalculation. She did, however, place higher in that race than another in this race, Mean Girl. Her next run was in the 8.5 furlong Grade 2 LOUISIANA DERBY. She had trouble coping in that race and finished ninth, 10 lengths back. Her last time out was in the 7.5 Grade 1 CORRELATION COEFFICIENT STAKES, where she would meet Miscalculation and Mean Girl once again. This time, both of those horses got the better of Pomeroy’s Quest, placing first and second, with Pomeroy’s Quest placing back in fifth, 3 lengths off the lead. If history repeats itself, she might have a problem getting around Miscalculation this week. The handicappers think she’ll have a problem as well and have given her odds of 12/1.

Post Position: 11

CK GHOST PROSPECT 3yo mare (Ghostzapper x Storm Cat x Mr. Prospector)

<COLGROUP><COL width=83><COL width=93><COL width=80>

STABLE

TRAINER

JOCKEY

Team CK

ckstables3

A Rolling

This girl started her racing career as a 2yo on March 10, 2007 in a 5 furlong MSW on the dirt. She would easily take the win after passing 12 other horses in the field with a speed of 69. It was then on to two 6 furlong ungraded Stakes races. She again dominated the field and was first under the wire in both, making it 3 for 3. Her trainer then decided that it was time to try her in Graded stakes and placed her in the Grade 1 HOSERHEAD JUVENILE FILLIES at 6.5 furlongs. She put up a valiant effort with a speed of 91 and just barely lost the win by a head. With that loss, it was back to ungraded stakes but this time she would be tried at a slightly longer distance of 7.5 furlongs. Seeming to like the longer distance, she was back in the winner’s circle after passing the field and placing 2 ½ lengths between her and the second place horse at the wire. It would then be another try at a Grade 1 race, this time in the Restricted WORLD CUP JUVENILE FILLY SPRINT over a distance of 6 furlongs. She would bring home her first graded win in this race but just by a nose. That would be her last win in 2007. She raced in 3 more races that year; a Grade 1, a Grade 2 and an ungraded Stakes and all 3 at 8.5 furlongs but she apparently wanted nothing to do with these longer races with her best finish a third, 3 ½ lengths behind the winner. ckstables3 would start her out in 2008 on a slightly different note, racing her in a 6.5 furlong allowance race on the turf. She showed her dislike for the grass with a finish of fourth, 5 ½ lengths back. So, on March 8, 2008, she was back on the dirt for a 7.5 furlong ungraded Stakes and once again, she was back in the winner’s circle with a career high speed of 101. A month later she was back on the track for the 7 furlong Grade 1 HELLO MAMA Special. She couldn’t quite get it together and came in eighth, over 5 lengths back from the lead. She would only get a 2 week break before her last race out, the Grade 2 PEBBLES FLINSTONES Stakes on the 19th of April. She fought her way from the back of the back but in the end it just wasn’t enough and she finished fourth by almost 3 lengths. The handicappers have given her odds of 9/1 for this race.

Post Position: 12

SUHEY 3yo mare (Linami x Deputy Minister x Miswaki) Dam – Deputy Epic

<COLGROUP><COL width=85><COL width=85><COL width=85>

STABLE

TRAINER

JOCKEY

Pierchinsky Stables

rori

J White

She began racing on the turf in April 2007 in a 6 furlong MSW. Never posing any threat, she placed seventh. She was then tried in a 5 furlong sprint where she broke her maiden but with a not very impressive speed of 58. So the decision was made to switch her over to the dirt. She immediately perked up in this 7.5 furlong Allowance race but after leading most of the race she dropped back to finish second 4 ¾ lengths back. Trainer rori then decided to try her in an 8 furlong Allowance and once again, after leading for a good part of the race, she dropped back to finish fourth. She was then taken back to 7 furlongs on an off track Allowance race. She grabbed the lead just after the first call and held onto it under the wire. Her next stop was a 7 furlong ungraded Stakes. This time she led the entire race from the starting gate to the wire and brought home her first stakes win. She then raced in three more ungraded Stakes. An 8.5 furlong where she finished fifth, 9 ¼ lengths back. Then a 7.5 furlong where she finished the best out of the three, coming in second. The third race, her last time out, was a 6 furlong where she started in fourth and that’s where she finished. This race will be two firsts for her. It will be her first graded attempt and her first time racing on American soil. Her trainer is hoping the switch will be to her advantage. The handicappers don’t think it will help much and have given her odds of 20/1.

Post Position: 13

AL FOREST 3yo mare (Good Reward x Danzig x A. In a 5.5 furlong sprint, she claimed the track as her own and was first under the wire. Her next start was a 5 furlong Allowance. Halfway through the race she made a bid for first. At the wire, she had taken the lead and finished 1 length ahead of the rest. She would then go on to compete in a 5.5 furlong ungraded Stakes race. After fighting her way through the pack, she was first under the wire by a head, making it three wins in a row. Her trainer decided it was time to try her in the Grade 3 BUTTERFLY FUTURITY. She wasn’t quite ready for the competition and was sixth under the wire. After a third in her next race, a 6 furlong ungraded, zielissimo decided to give her a go at the Grade 1 WORLD CUP FILLY JUVENILE. Once again she wasn’t much threat to the competition and finished seventh. It was time for a try at the turf and the switch proved to be a good one when she won her next race, a 6 furlong ungraded Stakes, by 2 ¼ lengths. She then went on to repeat her win in her next race, another 6 furlong ungraded in December 2007. After 3 more trips on the turf to no avail she was switched back to the dirt her last time out in April. She improved on her speed with a career high of 92 but finished third in this 6.5 furlong ungraded stakes. The handicappers feel that with her speeds so low and no wins over 6 furlongs that she is the long shot in this field with odds of 29/1.

Post Position: 14

GILDED EDGE 3yo mare (Gilded Time x Cutlass x Baederwood)

<COLGROUP><COL width=85><COL width=85><COL width=85>

STABLE

TRAINER

JOCKEY

Whisper Stables

hwhisper

P Cadigan

Rounding out the field will be Gilded Edge. She started racing in March 2007 in a 6 furlong MSW where she came from as far back as fourteenth to be the first under the wire by 1 ½ lengths. Her next race out was a 5.5 furlong Allowance race. She moved up from behind again to take the win. It was time to try her in a 5.5 furlong ungraded Stakes. She was unstoppable in these short sprints as she brought home another win and repeated her performance in her next race under the exact same circumstances, making it four for four. Trainer hwhisper decided to try her in the Grade 2 Dazzling Daisies Stakes at 6.5 furlongs. Whether it was the extra distance or the more advanced competition, she would bring home her first loss, coming in third. She would then face CK Ghost Prospect in the Grade 1 WORLD CUP JUVENILE FILLY SPRINT. It was a 3 horse photo finish at the wire but when the pictures were analyzed it was CK Ghost Prospect who had taken the win with the second place finisher and Gilded Edge who finishing by just a nose. She would then go on to run in the 7 furlong Grade 2 BIG HILL STAKES and the 6 furlong Grade 1 THXMSSLEW HANDICAP. She managed a second and a third, both finishes she was 2 ¼ lengths back. After a fourth in her next race, a 6.5 furlong ungraded, she was placed in a 7 furlong ungraded Stakes and was back in the winner’s circle once again with a high speed of 101. Her last race was the Grade 2 PEBBLES FLINSTONE STAKES where she raced against Sainte Chappelle and CK Ghost Prospect. She finished third, right behind Sainte Chappelle and right ahead of CK Ghost Prospect.
