Scrolling down through the list of \u201cA-Ranked\u201d mares is kind of like me sitting on my couch watching The Real Housewives of New York\u2026 they\u2019re all rich and beautiful\u2026 but are their offspring living up to their mammas\u2019 legacies?\u00a0 <\/span>Does a breeder have a large advantage when he or she uses an A- or B- or even C-ranked mare?\u00a0 <\/span>Or can a G- or H-ranked mare be just as suitable?\u00a0 <\/span>There are few trainers in the Sim that have mentioned that a mare ranked less than F- shouldn\u2019t be allowed to be bred to.\u00a0 <\/span>Hmm\u2026 If that were really put into place then millionaire fillies Wild Cat Tales<\/b> and Kiki\u2019s Moon Dancer<\/b> would never have graced the Sim\u2019s tracks.\u00a0 <\/span>This will be the first of many parts to a long \u201cmeta-analysis\u201d of the Sim\u2019s broodmare band.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Currently, in the retired mare pasture, there are 83,909 broodmares divided amongst the Sim-community.\u00a0 <\/span>That collection of mares is divided into 8 hierarchal classifications that are dependent on how the racemare performed on the track.\u00a0 <\/span>Here\u2019s how the cookie crumbles\u2026<\/p>\n

A-ranked mares<\/b> \u00e0<\/span><\/span> 92 (0.1%)<\/i><\/p>\n

B-ranked mares<\/b> \u00e0<\/span><\/span> 406 (0.4%)<\/i><\/p>\n

C-ranked mares<\/b> \u00e0<\/span><\/span> 1119 (1.34%)<\/i><\/p>\n

D-ranked mares<\/b> \u00e0<\/span><\/span> 1394 (1.66%)<\/i><\/p>\n

E-ranked mares<\/b> \u00e0<\/span><\/span> 2968 (3.54%)<\/i><\/p>\n

F-ranked mares<\/b> \u00e0<\/span><\/span> 6331 (7.55%)<\/i><\/p>\n

G-ranked mares<\/b> \u00e0<\/span><\/span> 32955 (39.3%)<\/i><\/p>\n

\u00a0It\u2019s blaringly apparent that the G & H ranked mares are the meat and potatoes of the Sim\u2019s breeding program, making up a whopping 85% of the broodmare band.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>That answers one question for me \u2013 if those two groups of mares were eliminated there would be a lot of unhappy campers who would have minimal (or possibly zero) mares to breed to.<\/o:p><\/p>\n

An H-ranked mare could be a filly that never ran in a single race or it could be a mare that ran 50 career starts with over $100,000 in earning, but nary a victory.<\/p>\n

I skimmed through the 439 H-ranked mares \u2026 that\u2019s just a measly 1.1%!\u00a0 <\/span>The top earning H-ranked mare (10yo Christy Son<\/b> by Miesque\u2019s Son<\/i>) earned $109,000 in 33 career starts (and zero trips to the winner\u2019s enclosure).\u00a0 <\/span>Of those 439 mares, 122 are still barren having never been given the chance to produce a single foal.\u00a0 <\/span>You may be thinking right now, \u201cYeah, well I wouldn\u2019t want to waste my hard earned (breeding points\/credits) on a mare sired by Norman Pentaquad<\/b> \u2013 I\u2019d get something with 5 legs<\/i>!\u201d\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n
