Last week I wrote about what an embarrassment of riches it might be for Lenny and the Evil Empire Stables in the Bluegrass but now it appears that the real riches lie in the GR Simsters Residency who has been crowing about the number of entries their resident stables will have. At the Arkansas Juvenile Derby Lock Prep this weekend they added another as Topicount Stable’s TAP DANCES locked up a spot in the Bluegrass Derby with his easy win. By my count that makes it no less than seven horses that will be in the Bluegrass with Lock Entries that call the GR Simsters their home Rez. You can bet that the folks at the Simsters will be rocking and rolling on Derby Day!

TAP DANCES pretty much made the Arkansas Juvenile his own little training race as he seemed to be in control the entire way for Trainer GG. At the beginning of the race, PARADISE COVE jumped out to a slight lead but our leader was right on his shoulder. A few lengths before the half, TAP DANCES took the lead and moved away from the field and coasted to the win, easing up in the stretch and still winning by more than two lengths. ROCK AND FIRE finished strong to finish second but couldn’t get near the winner and ZARAKI finished third but it was basically an afterthought in this race as he and the rest of the field were more than five lengths back.

With the victory, TAP DANCES now has six wins in his twelve races including four in a row and has moved up into the top six in rankings. Although the track was listed as GOOD, he seems equally proficient on a FAST track as his previous race showed with a 104 SPF. He ran a quick 103 SPF this time out and looks like he will be a true contender in the Bluegrass. His earnings are now just under $300k and he seems to love this distance. Trainer GG and the Topicount Stables have a nice colt here and have handled him nicely. He will have more experience than some in the Derby and that could pay off in the end.

The Lock Season is now ended and we are in the final stretch to the Run for the Roses. I’ve sure got my calendar marked and my travel plans made to be among the excitement all week. I can’t wait!

Good luck to all runners!
