Turns out the track owners there only decided to card this race at the last minute when the CFO got lucky with company funds and hit the weekly state lottery numbers. That windfall will supply the purse for this race and nine entrants have taken them up as they hope to make the grade and perhaps move on to the triple tiara races to be run next month starting in Kentucky. The track has been declared fast for this 8.5 furlong race for 3YO fillies which due to it’s last minute carding will go off as the nightcap on the 16 race card in New Mexico on Saturday.

Let’s take a look at today’s field:

1)PART OF STORM(JPN)—38/1—graywolf31 sends this filly out of ROSES IN MAY with a record of 7-2-0-1 and lifetime earnings of $15,668. She is out of the mare REMEMBER STORMY who was 3/34 at the track and this is the only foal on record to date. This divisional unranked filly races for the unafilliated division of the Wolf’s Den stables. This filly took 6 tries to break her maiden and tried a bit of everything from sprints to routes to dirt to turf before winning a $10K Maiden claimer 2 starts back. She came back to win a *150 allowance race last time out but this will be a huge class rise for this one here today and her top speed rating of 88 will probably not be good enough to finish in the money here today. Still, there will be those punters out there who will try to cash in on the mega odds just like the CFO did in getting the purse money for this race today. The rider for today’s race will be Kelso (2.8%). PROJECTED SPEED RATING—85.

2)NEHI ORANGE(KY)—4/1—hillhouse sends this filly out of UNBRIDLED’S SONG with a record of 11-5-3-1 and lifetime earnings of $800,210. She is out of the he-mare WINDHAM COUNTY who was 3/36 at the track. This 1st divisional ranked filly races for the Libitfarm Stables based in Vermont at the Pastures of Green. This top ranked filly router delighted her home town fans in Vermont when she won a Grade I stakes in her 2008 debut there posting a blistering 105 speed rating in the process for the 8.5 furlong race. She could not maintain that magic when she raced in CA last time out and suffered the preverbial bounce when she could not get the lead and then tired in the stretch drive. It is a similar fate she suffered in the BB Juvy Filly race last season and she came back fine after that race so with her bad race behind her look for her to be very strong again in this race today. She should be the one cutting the fractions today with the only other strong speed challenge coming from the outside post. If she can cut some reasonable fractions she may be tough to catch in the stretch drive. The rider for today’s race will be Bennington (18.4%). PROJECTED SPEED RATING—102.

3)SENSIBLE(KY)—3/1—pleasnttap sends this filly out of JOHANNESBURG with a record of 9-8-1-0 and lifetime earnings of $279,330. This 26th divisional ranked filly races for the unafilliated Timjbehr stables. This filly is a machine with 8 wins in 9 starts and her only loss came in her only Graded stakes start in her 3rd lifetime start last summer. She comes into this race having won 5 stakes races in a row albeit a few of them have come against short field and also posting her lifetime best 104 speed rating last time out. Can she move up to the next step in a Grade I and continue her winning streak today, the morning capper suggests she can by making her the early line favorite for the race. She should be sitting just behing the frontrunners in a stalking position and then pounce on them in the far turn. This will be a big test on the way to determining just how good this filly will be. The rider for today’s race will be Mitz (10.7%). PROJECTED SPEED RATING—103.

4)LOVESTRUCK(KY)—7/2—knowlton sends this filly out of SMART STRIKE with a record of 9-6-3-0 and lifetime earnings of $454,880. She is out of the mare LEGALLY SUMMER who was 4/22 at the track and this is the only foal on record to date. This 10th divisional ranked stable races for the Washer Toss Stables based in Vermont at the Pastures of Green. Well according to the PP patern this filly should be starting another 3 race win streak here and she does have the ability to do so. Her 2008 debut in The Grade I Sunny Florida where she posted her top 102 speed rating is as good as anybody’s best race in here and she will be hoping for a quick pace to make good use of her closing style that she has been using since stretching out to 8 furlongs or more. Last time out she came up a bit short in an 8 furlong stake and the extra half furlong today could be the difference that has her refind the winners circle here again. The rider for today’s race will be Rodenhauser (20.8%). PROJECTED SPEED RATING—102.

5)MESSY MISSY(KY)—6/1—monimonica sends this filly out of WOODMAN with a record of 9-5-0-3 and lifetime earnings of $258,260. She is out of the mare GW MESSED HIMSELF who was 1/26 at the track and who has 2 foals on record of which this Graded stake winning filly is the only winner to date. This 27th divisional ranked filly races for an independent and unafilliated stable. This filly showed she was going to be a force in the division with her last to first closing win in The Grade III Reflection Futurity in her 2007 finale. She has set her self up for this Grade I contest with a pair of overnite stakes runs including her last start a win in a 9f dirt stake in Dubai where she posted her lifetime best 97 speed rating. She will be another hoping for some fast early fractions to run down in the stretch drive and will hope that the drop back down to 8.5 furlongs from 9 last time out will not hinder her chances in the race. The rider for today’s race will be Vanhorse (5.9%). PROJECTED SPEED RATING—100.

6)DREAMY CAT(KY)—9/1—elzid sends this filly out of BLUEGRASS CAT with a record of 10-2-2-4 and lifetime earnings of $792,804. This 5th divisional ranked filly races for the Baggio stables based over at Minnesota Downs. All things considered this filly has only put up one bad performance while running on the dirt and that came in the World Cup series ran last fall. She bounced back nicely from that race to finish 2nd in the BB Juvy filly race where she closed up with TEN YEAR STORM but could not catch her in the stretch drive. She has finished in the top 3 in a pair of CA Grade I races since and should improve today as she will be racing on only a 4 week break over the 12 race layoff she was on entering her 2008 debut. While she is another closer of late who will hope for some fast fractions one must not forget that she did show gate speed early in her career while running in short sprints. If she is sharper heading into today’s race she may be a good risk for punters with her 9/1 odds. The rider for today’s race will be Chancellor (10.9%). PROJECTED SPEED RATING—97.

7)MISS SULLIVAN(KY)—7/1—paulson sends this filly out of A.P. INDY with a record of 8-4-3-0 and lifetime earnings of $183,460. This 53rd divisional ranked filly races for the Galileo stables based at the GR Simsters. This filly had a good 2 year old campaign running up the allowance ladder and even proved she could handle the off track and turf course as well which may come in handy sometime in the future. She appeared to tire in her 2008 debut in a Florida Grade I and she will be facing the winner of that race again here today but rebounded in her 2nd start of the year while posting her lifetime best 99 speed rating right here in New Mexico when winning The Mine Trader Stakes, the prep to this Grade I event. Her stalking style should put her in the 2nd tier of horses not to far back from the leaders and if she can come up with the same stretch kick as her last outing will definitely be a factor in the outcome of this race today. The rider for today’s race will be Duffy (25.7%). PROJECTED SPEED RATING—100.

8)SMELL IT(JPN)—7/1—inzy4 sends this filly out of AFLEET with a record of 11-2-2-4 and lifetime earnings of $114,641. She is out of the mare CITY WILD CAT who was 4/38 at the track and this is the only foal on record to date. This 86th divisional ranked filly races for the Flurgen stables based over at the CR Racers. This filly won twice as a 2 year old when she broke her maiden on the turf and then picked up a dirt mile restricted allowance win later in the year. She has raced with the boys in both of her 2008 starts leading up to this race today and has put up a pair of 4th place finishes in both of those races. She is a late closer whose rallies usually end up coming up short more times than not suggesting she may be better when the sophomore crop start stretching out to the classic distance in the near future. Her 97 speed rating posted last time out does put her in the mix in this race and many might consider this race a bit easier as she returns to run against her own sex in this filly race today. The rider for today’s race will be Kimura (6.9%). PROJECTED SPEED RATING—99.

9)SCHITZNGIGGLE(KY)—7/1—peeps3 sends this filly out of GONE WEST with a record of 9-3-1-2 and lifetime earnings of $134,495. This 50th divisional ranked filly races for the Cobra Kai Racing Stables based over at the GR Simsters. Perhaps of all the fillies entered in the race this one will have the most dramatic effect on the final outcome in the race. She draws the outside post and will most assuradly try for the lead against NEHI ORANGE and the quickness of those early fractions will be the major factor in determining just who will get the best trip of this race today. No denying this filly is speedy as shown by her quick fraction last time out in the LA Oaks where she posted her lifetime best 99 speed rating but she also will need to learn to pace herself in order to stop the trend of tiring in the late stretch and giving up the lead. With the other speed here today it is hard to imagine the fractions not being fast but we will have to wait for the race to develop to see if any strategies will be changed for this Grade I event today. The rider for today’s race will be Turk (8.3%). PROJECTED SPEED RATING—100.

This race is surely going to be a very interesting and entertaining contest and will be a trip handicappers dilema in trying to pick a winner. Will the 2 frontrunners burn each other out or is the divsion #1 quicker than the other speed on the outside. Will the late closers have time to get up or will the stalkers be better positioned to grab the lead in the stetch. A tough call but I am going to take a stab at #7 MISS SULLIVAN with the thinking that the frontrunners will leave themselves vulnerable in the stretch but that the far back late closers will come up a bit short leaving this stalker the chance to pick up the win after gaining some experience from her prior Grade I start in Florida.

GOOD LUCK AND GOOD RACING

THEO

DIVISIONAL #1 NEHI ORANGE WILL FACE 10 OTHERS IN WHAT SHOULD BE AN EXCITING 8.5 FURLONG CONTEST

[2

post-5685","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-previews
["GET
