While the filly division of this weeks 3YO mile turf Graded stakes filled with ease only 6 opted to enter the open division which will go off as the 15th race on the 16 race card this saturday in Kentucky. The Grade III Dracula stakes offers a $150,000 purse.<\/P>

1)BOOM GATE(ENG)—5\/1—<\/STRONG>thegeneral sends this colt out of RAINBOW QUEST with a record of 9-4-1-1 and lifetime earnings of $319,080. He is out of the he-mare LYRIC THEATRE(IRE) who was 3\/26 at the track. This 42nd divisional ranked colt races for the BigKev and BJBandit Farms based over at the Ohio Thoroughbred Racing residency. This colt was a 3 times stakes winner last year as a 2 year old and also posted a 2nd place finish in the innaugural World Cup in the Juvy Colt sprint Grade I restricted race. He came up flat in his 08 debut in a Grade II Vermont mile race and hopefully he can come back with an improved performance today. I wonder if the 7 weeks off between races may be a bit to long for this fellow, but hopefully he has been able to keep fit in his daily training routines. I expect this colt to race as a closer and sit mid to back of the pack early although in some short field races he has displayed some early gate speed as well. He has a top speed rating mark of 96 posted in an 8 furlong stake win last year and that figure would be very competitive should he repeat it here again today. The rider for today’s race will be Cadigan (15.1%).\u00a0 PROJECTED SPEED RATING—94.<\/STRONG><\/P> 2)TOP FORM(KY)—9\/5—<\/STRONG>kingswood sends this colt out of DYNAFORMER with a record of 7-4-1-1 and lifetime earnings of $240,749. This 15th divisional ranked colt races for the management stables of Coolk over at the EAAA racing residency. This speedy colt has really picked it up in his sophomore season this year with 3 wins and then a heartbreaking photo finish loss in the Grade I The Mountain That Rides Battle last time out where he posted a big 103 speed rating over the 8 furlong turf stake. He is one of two entered here who have posted triple digit speed ratings and with this one expected to cut the early fractions the short field may just turn out to be in his favor if he can get away with some easy early fractions. One thing is for sure though, his backers have to hold there breath in the stretch drive because he does sometimes let other horses gain ground on him late in races.\u00a0 The rider for today’s race will be Givins (24.7%).\u00a0 PROJECTED SPEED RATING—101.<\/STRONG><\/P> 3)UGLYDUCKNINE(FR)—7\/1—<\/STRONG>santacruz sends this colt out of SABREHILL with a record of 11-3-1-1 and lifetime earnings of $77,317. This 443rd divisional ranked colt races for the unafilliated Penamacor2 stables. This colt has been moved around quite a bit in his career as he is now racing for his 4th set of owners. He ran for different owners in each of his first 2 career starts last year, both on the dirt and both ending up with poor results. He was then picked up by Twinhollow in the auction and was switched to the turf where he has performed much better and ended up breaking his maiden for a $5K tag in a race where he was scooped up by his current connections. They pushed the right buttons early winning his first 2 starts in their barn including a turf sprint stake race, and with the exception of a Grade III try in his 2008 debut he has been competitive in all his races for his current owners. They move him back to the Graded stake ranks today off his lifetime best 94 speed rating last time out and also stretch him back out to a mile, a distance he has only run once before. He is a closer, so hopefully the extra distance will prove beneficial to him but it is unclear whether he will have the speed to beat the top 2 favorites in this race at this time. This is the only stakes winner on record for the sire who is a bargain priced sire in the sim. The rider for today’s race will be Sipe (4.8%).\u00a0 PROJECTED SPEED RATING—90.<\/STRONG><\/P> 4)PUTT FOR THE ROSES(KY)—9\/2—<\/STRONG>eliza sends this colt out of FLOWER ALLEY with a record of 10-2-2-0 and lifetime earnings of $44,155. He is out of the mare WILD SEEKER who was 5\/30 at the track and who has 3 foals on record of which 2 are winners. This 1881st divisional ranked colt races for the unafilliated Mv4ever stables. A very interesting spot for this colt to be making his stakes debut as this will be not only his stakes debut but also his Graded stakes debut and his turf debut as well. This 2 time allowance winner as a 2 year old has been winless in his 3 starts so far this year so his connections are going to try a surface change to see if that is the ticket to get the best performance from this colt. His top speed rating of 95 was posted last time out in a 7.5 furlong dirt allowance race. Under normal circumstances a Graded stake may not be the best place to debut the change but with this short field entered it appears that may have helped in the decision to enter this race. This sire has produced some stake winners on the turf in his brief career in the sim albeit the mare did win all her races on the dirt. Not sure what running style he will take although it looks like he will stalk the pace from midpack and we will have to see if he responds to the change to turf. The rider for today’s race will be Pagel (2.9%).\u00a0 PROJECTED SPEED RATING—???<\/STRONG><\/P> 5)BANNER(IRE)—2\/1—<\/STRONG>2tohold sends this colt out of DANEHILL DANCER(IRE) with a record of 7-2-1-2 and lifetime earnings of $363,000. He is out of the mare TIN SOLDIER who was 0\/2 at the track and who has 3 foals on record of which all are stakes winners. This 48th divisional ranked colt races for Super’s More Evil Than The Evil Empire stables based over at Del\/Penn National. This colt showed a big improvement last year when switched from the dirt to turf racing and is the 2nd horse in the field to post a triple digit speed rating when he put up a 102 rating in his 2008 debut in a Grade I stake in Arizona where he cut the early fractions but had to settle for 3rd in the race results. He dropped back down to a sprint last time out and again came up short in the late stretch and hopefully he has been able to work on that problem in training between races. While the field is a short one both of the early favorites including this colt are front runners and while the other may possess a tad little more speed it will be interesting to see if they pull so far ahead of the field to be unable to be caught or if they burn each other out leaving the door open for an upset victory here today. The rider for today’s race will be Connor (13.8%).\u00a0\u00a0 PROJECTED SPEED RATING—98.<\/STRONG><\/P> 6)LET YOU GO(KY)—6\/1—<\/STRONG>evildoer3 sends this colt out of OURAGAN with a record of 11-5-1-1 and lifetime earnings of $101,054. He is out of the mare LORD WELL who was 1\/1 at the track and who has 6 foals on record of which 5 are winners including 1 Graded stakes winner and another stakes winner. This 88th divisional ranked colt races for the Evildoer stables one of the comrades over at the RASH residency. This sharp $7500 claim pickup by his current connections has more than made up his costs by posting 3 wins in 4 starts for his new barn including an 8.5 furlong stakes win last time out in Denmark where he posted a lifetime best 95 speed rating. While he has yet to show the same speed as the top 2 favorites he does have the ability to sit just back of the frontrunners and if they should burn each other out this colt could take advantage and try to pass some tiring horses in the late stretch. Perhaps this one is the play if you want to stay away from the chalk horses in the race. The rider for today’s race will be Jazz (9%).\u00a0 PROJECTED SPEED RATING—98.<\/STRONG><\/P> Well i guess many of the 3yo turf milers have opted out of this race today, but the short field should still provide a decent race for the KY fans today. I am going to take the favorite #2 TOP FORM here as i believe his speed is slightly better than his main rivals and with the experience of the tracks top jockey aboard should give him the slight edge.
