The pattern held true this week for Tippy’s Love, who posted yet another career best speed figure to earn a trip to the winner’s circle in this week’s Stupidly Not Beau Handicap. As predicted, this one was all about speed, with six of the twelve entries posting 100+ numbers, and it took a 111.8 speed figure for the five year old son of Successful Appeal to bring this one home. This is the second stakes win of the season for him in three runs, and sends him into the top 100 older turf sprinters, settling at an 82 ranking. This was his tenth career win in his thrity two starts, and it brings his career earnings to the $348111 mark. Bettors were throwing a party this week, seeing some excellent payouts at the betting windows. The winner paid $14.30 $7.40 $5.30 across the board. With 11/1 Nofearre(IRE) claiming second place honors and the favorite coming in fifth, the exotics made some great money this week, sporting a $181.10 payout in the exacta and a whopping $1297.50 in the trifecta.

This race had a very tight break from the gate, and as they settled in, six runners formed three fairly even pairs as they moved toward first call. Flashing Sabre(KY) and Mad Axe Man II shook out of the pack early, running neck and neck. As they reached first call, they had put a length on the pair just behind them, with another pair stalking the pace another length and a half back. They were still battling head to head at the half, neither giving an inch, but failing to extend their cushion much beyond what they had at first call. As they crossed the half, you could see the speed duel begin to takes its toll, and the stalkers started to eat up the ground between themselves and the early leaders. As they passed the third call, the closers had taken control, and they entered the stretch with four runners bunched within a half length of each other, and it was still anyone’s race. As they moved down the stretch though, Tippy’s Love broke away from the pack, and crossed the wire uncontested, a length and a quarter ahead of second place finisher Nofearre(IRE). Super Coverup held off hard rushing Dinowheels(KY) by a scant quarter length to round out the trifecta, three and three quarters out at the wire.
