The Ohio track maintenance people have worked diligently over the past week scraping off the 3 feet of snow of the track and making sure it is ready for this weekends Grade III Chantily Lace Cap to be run as the 15th race on the 16th race Saturday card. Of coure it helps that Ohio uses the turf equivilant of polytrack called equinioastro turf which makes winter racing much easier to hold and with special shoes is completely safe for all the runners. A field of 11 3 year olds have passed the entry box for this mile race and will vye for the winners share of the $125,000 purse.

Let’s take a look at today’s field:

)SEATTLE MAMBO(KY)—6/1—bicuspid sends this colt out of KINGMAMBO with a record of 8-3-2-0 and lifetime earnings of $120,545. This 160th divisional ranked colt races out of the Del/Penn National division of Doctahg’s Dentition stables. This colt has split his 8 lifetime starts between the dirt and turf and has won a stake race on both surfaces but his speed ratings tend to show he is a bit quicker on the green surface. He comes into this race after running in a couple of Grade I events where he did not look out of place finishing in the middle of the pack and the drop down here today could be all he needs to finish on top at the wire. He likes to run on the lead and show early speed and will have to prove that he has the stamina to last all the way to the wire against this field here today. His top speed rating of 97 was posted last time out and it looks like a triple digit rating may be required to be tops here today. The rider for today’s race will be Robertson (5.7%). PROJECTED SPEED RATING—100.

)BASESTEALER(KY)—9/1—yunkai sends this colt out of DISTORTED HUMOR with a record of 8-4-0-2 and lifetime earnings of $131,756. He is out of the he-mare BRANDON’S GIFT(IRE) who was 8/29 at the track. This 84th divisional ranked colt races for Given’s Fire And Blood stables based over at the GR Simsters. This colt took to the turf after running a so so debut on the dirt and became a stake winner when he won a mile turf stake in Rhode Island in his 07 finale. He posted his lifetime best 99 speed rating of 99 last time out in a VT Grade II 8f turf stake where he made a small move in the middle of the race but could not sustain his bid. He has yet to define his best racing style as of yet albeit it looks like he prefers to close in larger field races. If this is the case it looks like he will have to improve in his stretch runs to be considered a win threat here today. The rider for today’s race will be Sites (13%). PROJECTED SPEED RATING—100.

)CIRCUS PLUME(ENG)—6/1—saxlhof sends this filly out of PICCOLO(GB) with a record of 13-5-3-1 and lifetime earnings of $257,910. This 29th divisional ranked filly races for the Dupre stables based in Ireland. This filly won 4 turf stake sprint races as a 2 year old last year with the last one coming against the boys at Ascot. She is one of 2 fillies entered in this race and the consensus is split as to whether or not they should be running against the boys at this stage of their careers. She struggled in a similar race in Vermont 2 starts back and finished 3rd last time out against her own sex in an overnite stake start in DE posting her lifetime best 95 speed rating in both starts. She runs best as a stalking closer sitting just behind the frontrunners but it may be to much to ask her to compete against the boys here today albeit some felt that way at last years BB races and look what happened there. The rider for today’s race will be Arthur (7.4%). PROJECTED SPEED RATING—96.

)REZURRECTION(KY)—13/1—dog sends this colt out of DAYJUR with a record of 8-4-3-0 and lifetime earnings of $115,685. He is out of the he-mare YOUR TIES who was 12/69 at the track. This 718th divisional ranked stable runs for the Tees stable based over at the EAAA racing residency. This colt is a perfect 3/3 on the grass after running his first 5 starts on the main dirt track. His best race came in the EAAA residency challenge where he posted a 94 speed rating in the 6.5 furlong stake race. He loves to run on the front end and won an allowance race in wire to wire fashion when stretched to 7 furlongs last time out. He makes his first try at a mile in this his first open stake and Graded stake start today. He has lost ground in all 3 of his turf starts in the stretch but that may have been on account that the win was already in the bag and he was hand ridden home so it will be interesting to see how he handled the extra furlong here today. The rider for today’s race will be Gordon (9.1%). PROJECTED SPEED RATING—95.

)TEXAS ROCKS(JPN)—14/1—brenbren sends this colt out of ROCK OF GIBRALTAR(IRE) with a record of 7-3-2-1 and lifetime earnings of $95,684. He is out of the mare TEXAS PROJECT who was 9/59 at the track and who has 5 foals on record, all winners. This colt has been a solid allowance runner so far to date and finished a respectable 4th in his only stake start so far to date, a Grade III turf route in Ontario last fall. He posted his top speed rating of 89 last time out while closing from near the back of a short field allowance race to win going away in the stetch. While that race sets him up nicely for this start today he will have to significantly pick up his speed and times in order to be considered a factor here today but I am sure some will be willing to include him in their exotic wagers hoping for a generous return on their investment. The rider for today’s race will be Holland (3.6%). PROJECTED SPEED RATING—92.

)FOUR DAYS LATER(KY)—10/1—estreli sends this colt out of BERNARDINI with a record of 10-3-2-2 and lifetime earnings of $121,850. He is out of the mare MAMBO GIRL who was 3/28 at the track and who has 4 foals on record of which 3 are winners including this stakes winner. This 40th divisional ranked colt races for the Flagdown stables based in Vermont at the Pastures of Green. This colt is another who struggled on the dirt at the start of his career but found his best stride when switched over to turf racing. He won his first 3 starts on the lawn including an Upper New York 8.5 furlong stake, and has finished in the money in 3 straight stake races since that mini win streak. After getting burned in speed duels for a pair of races he has learned to relax and sit off the frontrunners of late and try to catch them in the stretch drives. His last pair of races have been at the 9 to 9.5 furlong distance which may have been a bit to far for him at this stage of his career and I look for this one to significantly improve today with the cutback to the 8 furlong distance. The rider for today’s race will be Ingresoll (20.5%). PROJECTED SPEED RATING—98.

)FOREST MAN(KY)—8/1—crandyiii sends this colt out of FOREST WILDCAT with a record of 10-2-3-2 and lifetime earnings of $110,200. He is out of the mare MOUNTAIN GREENERY who was 2/23 at the track and who this is the only foal on record to date. This 729th divisional ranked colt races for the NWRC divison of the Crandy stables. This colt has returned to the turf for his last 3 starts after switching to the dirt in his 3rd lifetime start and has finished in the money in each of those 3 starts. He stretches out to a mile for the first time on the turf today and will need to refind the run he had in KS 2 starts back to be his biggest threat as he appeared to flatten out last time in MN. He did not show any stamina in his lone route start to date on the dirt and will need to improve on that in order to be considered a win threat here today. His speed ratings have been climbing in his last 3 starts with his best mark of 95 very competitive against this field. The rider for today’s race will be Redden (8.5%). PROJECTED SPEED RATING—97.

)FAROTTO(KY)—7/1—fetti50 sends this colt out of FORESTRY with a record of 9-5-3-1 and lifetime earnings of $250,400. He is out of the he-mare CUNETTO who was 2/22 at the track. This 133rd divisional ranked colt races for the unafilliated group of Fetti50 stables. Even though this colt won 2 of his first 3 starts on the dirt, his off track stakes win prompted his connections to try him on the turf and he has finished in the money in all 6 of his turf starts including a pair of stake wins last year. He prepped for this race by stretching out to a mile for the first time and posted his lifetime best 95 speed rating in an allowance race where he rated just behind the frontrunner and then blew on by in the stretch. That tactic could work for him here but he also has shown speed in his sprint starts and if the pace is to slow for his liking here he has the ability to move up and set his own fractions. The rider for today’s race will be Girt (9.1%). PROJECTED SPEED RATING—100.

)CREDIT CASTLE(KY)—5/2—brentuk sends this colt out of CASTLEDALE(IRE) with a record of 10-6-3-0 and lifetime earnings of $339,615. He is out of the mare CREDIT BUSTING who was 10/36 at the track and who has 3 foals of which 2 are winners including this Graded stakes winner and another stakes winner. This 15th divisional ranked colt races for Oasis Racing UK that is based over at Minnesota Downs. This colt comes into this race on a 2 race win streak including a win in The Grade II Vermont is 4 Lovers stakes over 8 furlongs on the turf where he posted a lifetime best 105 speed rating. He has posted back to back triple digit speed ratings and as long as he does not bounce in this race is definitely the one to beat here today as displayed by his early morning line favorite status. He will either stalk or press the pace and has already proven he has the kick in the stretch to get things done, something others in this field have yet to prove with any consistancy. Definitely the one to beat here today. The rider for today’s race will be Grunhard (28.7%). PROJECTED SPEED RATING—106.

)VESPUCCI(KY)—10/1—jbfarms sends this colt out of STORM CAT with a record of 7-4-1-0 and lifetime earnings of $135,510. He is out of the he-mare VALAMAR who was 8/40 at the track. This 44th divisional ranked colt races for the Del/Penn National division of the Knightmare stables. This colt won back to back 8.5 furlong turf stakes before trying the BB Juvenile Turf race last fall where he tired after showing some very brief early run. He started out this year with a turf sprint stake win but faltered last time out in VT againt the runner who is assuredly going to be the favorite in this contest today. While he did post his lifetime best 97 speed rating which betters most in this field he will need to improve his stretch drive run in order to try to beat his rival in this race today. The rider for today’s race will be Fortune (6.1%). PROJECTED SPEED RATING—99.

)HILDAGO(FR)—17/1—flurgen2 sendst his filly out of LAYMAN with a record of 7-4-1-1 and lifetime earnings of $115,422. She is out of the he-mare STORM ATRONACH who was 3/35 at the track. This filly appears to have made a tough place to make her debut against the boys in what will be her first Graded stake of her career. She has won a pair of overnite turf stake sprints so far in her career and will be stretching out to a mile for the first time as well here today. She has established herself as a closer who possess a big late stetch kick and it will be interesting to see if she can maintain that style while she adds distance to her runs. Her top speed rating of 86 falls short of many in this field today but she should pick up some racing experience that could prove to be invaluable when she returns to running against her own sex in future stake races.
