Ophidian Spawn and Words and Music engaged each other in a speed battle, exchanging the lead with each other early on in the race. Just past the midway mark, Jockey B. Schardein pulled out the whip, used it once, which was enough to encourage Ophidian Spawn to jump forward and take the Lost Mountain Stakes by a margin of 2 lengths. Ophidian was my top choice and extends his win streak to 3 consecutive, also taking 4th in last 5.

Words and Music has plenty to sing about for trainer Estreet. Words, my second choice, just couldn’t keep up with the favorite late in the race, but put in an excellent effort with a speed rating of 95 on the good turf.

K’s Totalitarist (my third choice) showed a liking to the off track last time out, picked up the pieces finishing third. For those paying attention, I did nail both the exacta ($20.40) and the trifecta ($73.20).

Trippa ran a respectable 3rd much of the race before tiring and ending up forth.

Double Malted appeared to be somewhat hesitant on the track, finishing 5th, 13 lengths back. This is the most he’s ever lost by and you can blame this on the track conditions.

Random Russian also didn’t care for the turf and it showed with his 6th place finish. Happyhappyjoyjoy ran 4th early on before collapsing miserably, finishing last, some 20+ lengths behind the winner.
