That is how it went last Saturday in the Bitter State Special when a field of closers went charging to the front half way through the race. Fantasy came into this race as a front runner but her trainer had the jockey hold her back and have her run with closers. A tactic that proved well founded, especially when you have the classy veteran Vince Gannon in the irons. He held her in the middle of the pack and waited for the other horses to start their charge to the front and then let his lady go. She cruised to the front and was just able to get her head in front for a win. Since she was also an outside bet she paid a healthy $25.70 to win. Learntolaugh broke at the back of the pack as was her custom, maybe because she hates the gates, and then proceeded to churn up the dirt as she came storming to the front. It looked like she was on her way to a second win in a row, but just couldn’t get that last little bit needed to go in front and had to settle for a very respectable place. Coming in at less than a half length behind were the two challengers Crash Bang Wallop(IRE) and Sweetest Heart. These two challenged the leader at one point and then had to fight each other to see who would get the show spot. It was so close that there was a photo finish and it was several minutes before it could be decided that Sweetest Heart was the show horse. When trainer prufrock was asked to comment on the ruling he grimaced and stated, “I sure wish I could teach my horse to stick her tongue out like the Anziyan sired horses seem to do.” As stated before, this was probably the best race of the season if not for several seasons and it proved to be a closers race as predicted. The first eight horses were natural closers, except for the mare Fantasy who won by using a closing tactic, and photos were needed to determine the first six places. What more could you ask for in a race.
This Saturday bring in another full field to race. That is the third time in four weeks and that has never happened so often here in Wyoming. It makes you wonder if the WRC is promising more to the trainers that is not known. Don’t get me wrong, I think it is great we are getting full fields here on the high plains. The stands are full, the betting is wild and exciting and the racing has been quite good of late. It is doing so well that many of the northern Colorado residents are making the trip north to watch racing here. It will be no different this week when the $55,000 Baylee’s Dream Bonanza goes off. It will be an eight and a half furlong route for three year and older horses on the dirt. Another fine weekend is predicted so get there early to get a good spot in the expected full house. Just so you know, here are the racers for this weekend.
Little Feat entered by glfstrmdoc. Coming out of the one hole is a chestnut colt by Event of the Year. He has been pushed above his head by the trainer who keeps putting him in graded stakes where he has been struggling mightily. He does have a stakes win routing and could return to the winner’s column by returning back to a lesser stakes. It will all depend on his confidence which has to be really shaky about now.
Rock Wood Flow(IRE) entered by iant5. This elder colt from Ireland is sired by Rock of Gibraltar. He comes into the race running well all season and is looking to capture a stakes win since his last did it at the beginning of last season. He likes to run with the leaders but needs a good break from the gates to be affective.
Planet East T entered by puddinpuss. In the third slot is the chestnut horse sired by Eastern Echo. The horse started of the year with a bang and then faded a bit only to come in here on a roll again. He likes to close on the field but will take the reigns between the teeth and lead if he absolutely has to. He is another horse looking for a stakes win since the beginning of last year.
Wrestling Flag entered by captbligh. This brown elder statesman comes from Local Talent and is part of the small but winning crop of 2001. He was claimed back in 2003 by this trainer and run very sparingly since. He is a hardcore masochist preferring to come from dead last to get his wins, which often works lately. He does have a problem with consistency and that could hurt him here in his first attempt at stakes level.
Glad Lad entered by sabalou. This brown Lil’s Lad elder colt returns to Wyoming after visiting a neighbor track. He has been racking up the races this year and you have to start to wonder if going into his fifteenth start he isn’t starting to wear down a bit. He has been in the money most of the year, but always trying to close on the field has to be taking its toll. Has drawn one of the inside lanes for the first time this year so let’s see what he does with it.
Happy In The Sun entered by burn2shine. An elder colt by Millennium Wind is registered brown but could be closer to black. This front running colt has been struggling with stamina all season long. He will set a good pace and then be unable to complete what he has started and sometimes fading clear off the board. He will most likely try the same here and a good gate spot will surely help.
Flytastic Indy entered by tomsfly. This sophomore chestnut is by Fantastic Light. After garnering a place here last time out he stay in Wyoming hoping for the win this time. He stays at the distance he prefers and will try to set the pace as he has done in all his wins. He is familiar with the track and has drawn Mike Blade a dependable jockey and could surprise the odds makers once again.
Hollow Mission(GB) entered by strstable8. Sired by the British horse Beat Hollow, this senior brown colt comes in here looking to return to his winning ways. After two residency runs with no success, this mid pack runner drops a little distance in hopes of lighting a spark. Unfortunately he has pulled a high numbered lane which he really doesn’t like and has always performs poorly from.
Quincannon entered by lilbitfarm. Coming in as the clear favorite, this senior chestnut colt is sired by Grand Slam. He started his racing career late and exploded onto the scene with a shocking first run. So much so that rumor has it the trainer was walking around an hour after the race with his mouth still hanging open. He will take the race from the beginning and challenge all others to beat him. With eight wins out of fourteen runs the style has worked well and having the wily old veteran Vince Gannon in the irons can only enhance his chances here.
Gardiner entered by kingswood. This brown horse sired by Capote sat out all of seasons 2003 and 2004. That means he has only seven races under the saddle and still shows improvement with every race. He was bought recently by the current trainer and put directly into a stakes race where he debuted with a respectable place. Because of his relative inexperience the odds makers are looking elsewhere, but he could very well surprise.
Conditional entered by mizunomp14. This light gray elder colt by With Approval comes into the race very familiar to the racing fans, as this will be his third race in a row here. This time he will try it at the stakes level, and with a stakes win already this year, he knows the ropes. In the irons is the vastly improved rookie Jim Doyle, who also has a stakes. Maybe the two will work well together.
Hawk A Doodle Do entered by steelcard. Making his dirt stakes debut is the brown sophomore by Hawkster. This youngster was spending his time on the turf and was fairly consistent and solid. He was sold to the current trainer who believed this boy could do much better in the dirt pounding clods. It has turned out the right choice and he has soared above the hundred speed. His high odds make him definitely worth looking at for a little cash infusion.
Thundering Theif G entered by medusa. This chestnut sophomore is by Cat Thief and makes his second run at stakes level. This closer has been consistent all season so far with a truckload of shows. Maybe he is a little dyslexic as his name shows and keeps getting third and not firsts because of it. He will have to put out his best effort to date because this is a strong field and many could pull off the upset win.
Mr. Niner Again entered by bigmoose. This light brown son of Forty Niner comes into the race on wobbly legs. He has had a real struggle in the few stakes races so far this year and has not come close to winning when he is in a lane beyond eleven. He has drawn gate fourteen and couple that with a jockey that is average this year and you can see a lot of trouble for this big brown horse. He will definitely need any and all breaks he can get this race.

[2,3,1

post-546","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-previews","category-reviews","category-uncategorized
["GET
