Funny, if it were colts racing in this race, they might have named it Sexy Stud Muffins Classic. Anyway, this G1 stakes race will be run on one mile of firm turf with a field of fourteen well qualified four year old fillies and up for $500,000. The weather is perfect and on Saturday, you can bet the track will literally be eaten alive by these fillies.

The 5-1 favorite, Northern Pulp, sired by Pulpit, is a five year old brown mare, owned and trained by Theogbarn. She is up to a million dollars in earnings and has 15 wins in 26 starts. She won her last race, which was the Turn The Calendar Mile where Thirteenth Date challenged her for the title. Northern Pulp has won 5 stakes races, two G3, one G2 and one G1. These include the Good Vista Handicap (G3), which she won in February of 2007, the Black Betty Handicap (G2), won in April of 2007, Bird of Prey Stakes (G3), won in September of 2007 and the (G1), Turn The Calendar Mile. She likes to sit either midfield or off the pace, depending on her mood. I would say look for her towards the front of the midfield. Braking from post position six, she’ll be ridden by P Bangs.

In post position one, we have Point Out (IRE), a six year old chestnut mare. Owned and trained by tcrowell at 16-1 odds, she’s sired by Singspiel and will be ridden by G Stepnoski. She’s had 39 starts and nine wins, including 3 allowance races, four stakes wins and one G2, the Independence Day BB Stakes. SHe also ran in The Calendar Mile (G1) and placed fourth and the Smackdown (G1), placing another fourth. You can predict Point Out will sit back with the rest of the closers.

Tete Of Gibraltar (IRE), a five year old brown mare, owned by Wisbyzews and sired by Rock Of Gibraltar. With 25 starts, she has taken 11 wins. She’s won four stakes and her earliest win was last August, The Sadler’s Unbridled Challenge. She took second in A Plus Mile (G3) and the Ida Ore Stakes (G3) and also ran in the World Cup Ladies Turf Mile, taking sixth. She’s at odds of 9-1 and will be ridden P Culpepper, braking from gate two.

Nook Queen has earned quite a name for herself winning the Penn Debutante. A four year old filly, sired by Kingmambo and owned/trained by Perko1, she’s come a long way in the racing world with a 13-10 record. She’s won the past seven of her races, including three allowances, three stakes races and one G1. She won her first three races, her maiden, and two allowance races and then stormed The Her Terms Challenge, The Salted Son Bonanza and The Lookalike Orient Challenge. She’s a fast closer, so watch out for this filly. She’ll be in post number three (my lucky number) and will be ridden by T Baxter with 6-1 odds.

Next in line is Red Royal. A five year old brown mare, sired by Royal Academy and owned/trained by Romeshome with odds at 12-1. She has five wins in 21 starts and has won two G3 and a stakes. She won the Queenston Handicap and the Remember Stakes and ran in the Smackdown (G1) and came in fifth and placed second in the Princess Di Cap. She pulled gate four and will be ridden by M Ridenour. She’ll stayed behind the field, just like the rast of the closers.

Do Or Die. Actually, Do Or Die is a five year old brown mare by Diesis. She’s a rookie to the stakes races but has won seven out of 20 starts. Her last win was back in November. She’s 18-1, and the second long shot in the field of fillies whom will be ridden by T Rathman, gate number 5.

In gate seven, Infernal Tutor is a four year old brown mare owned and trained Lender. Sired by Moulin, she is at half a million, with eight wins and 16 starts. She’s won one G3, which was her last win, the Ida Ore Stakes and a G2, The Prabha Special. She likes to run off the pace and will be ridden R Owen with odds at 10-1.

Cosmo Girl. Another filly to watch. Sired by storm cat, this five year old brown mare is close the 2 million mark and has 13 wins in 30 starts. Within her first five races, she won her maiden, two stakes and one G2. Since then she has won 6 graded stakes races. She has raced a total of 22 graded stakes, total 7 graded stakes wins, one G1 2nd and 6 graded stakes coming in 3rd. This little lady will be braking from gate 8 and will be ridden by R Brassier. Owned and trianed by Theoc2, she’s at odds of 8-1.

Gone For It in post nine and will be ridden by K Williams. Owned and trained by Olwhisper, this four year old mare is sired by Gone West and will running her 23rd race. She has six wins and is our last rookie in the field, with no stakes race experience. She likes to run behind midfield and is at 20-1 odds, making her the long shot in this fourteen horse race.

Torch The Flame is yet another four year old brown mare by Kingmambo. She has also reached the 1 million mile marker and seems to take either surface. she has 21 starts and 9 wins. She has 4 graded stakes wins and 4 stakes wins. Her lastest win was the G1 World Cup Ladies Turf Mile and managed to take third in the Breeder’s Bowl Mile against colts as well as other fillies. She’s also versatile when it comes to positioning herself in the field. She’s at 7-1 odds and will be ridden by R Dowell.

Sired by the famous Danzig, Tommy, a six year old chestnut mare, owned and trained by Artistway is at 13-1 odds with L Fain who will be aboard the mare in Saturdays race. With 22 starts and nine wins, she comes into this race with a win. Her first G3 win was the Good Vista Handicap, which she won in February of 2006. Next it was Black Betty Handicap in April and then The Mine Grips Stakes in January two weeks prier to this Saturday. My guess is as good as any, but I would say she’ll probably be right behind the leaders hoping to catch a tiring horse.

What a name, Skullcrusher. She’s a four year old brown mare out of Awesome Again and owned/trained Given2. Out of her seven wins out of 13 total races, she’s won the Penn Distaff/Devils Slide Handicap (G1), Big Time Handicap (G2), The Killing Fields Stakes, Demona Handicap (G1) and the DE2 Challenge (G1). She likes to run midfield and jockey L Fontain will be guiding her every step of the way. In post 12, she’s at 12-1 odds.

Freezing is a four year old brown mare, sired by Zabeel and has 6 wins out of 15 starts. That includes winning the Remember Stakes (G3), The Mac’s Courage Memorial and The Frisco Shocker Challenge. She likes to go from wire to wire and has two G3, one G1 and one G2 on her record. T Kirkland will be her jockey on Saturday in post position 13 with odds at 12-1.

Tenacious was stuck with the outside post in the fourteen horse field with 11-1 odds and is owned and trained by Peeps4. Sired by Vindication, she’s a five year old chestnut mare. Her last race was the Turn the Calendar Mile, which she took second place, and the last race she won was back in October of 2007, the Red Whitey Challenge. She won her maiden on dirt and the first race she ran on turf, she liked so much, she decided to win that one too. She also has the Flying Saucer Stakes (G3), the Storm Dog Handicap (G1), The 1000 Guineas (G1), Smackdown II and the Del Webb Oaks (G1) under her name too. She is the last closer in the field and will be ridden by B Philp.

It’s hard to say who will come out in the end, but I have my bets on Nook Queen and Northern Pulp to put in a good performance. Good to all the competitive mares and there jocks.

[2

post-5354","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-previews
["GET
