Kerbel Lotois gave some cheek in the home stretch but was no match for the winner despite finishing more than 5 lengths ahead of the third horse, Paris Gagner. The disappointment of the race would be the fifth palce finish of Al Moutawakel. In all, a very predictable result.

Race 2 – 90+ H’cap for fillies and mares, D7.5f

This race was switched to the dirt following the rain in Dubai. This didn’t seem to affect the result though as Godolphin’s top weight, Many Colours (GB), won comfortably by almost two lengths from second top weight Olympic City (BRZ). If there was a surprise, it was the good third place recorded by the old girl, Cat Belling (IRE). The rest of the field were not competitive.

Race 3 – Conditions plate for 3 y/o fillies, D7f

This race looked like it might contain a gem and Godolphin’s Fiesta Lady (ARG) might be just that. She made light work of her 62 kg’s and scorched home by more than 3 lengths from her stablemate, Cocoa Beach (CHI) who nosed out Olympic Glory (BRZ) for second place as South American breds took home the trifecta. Fiesta Lady will have to prove her class against stronger than this, but she looks headed in the right direction with 4 wins and a second from 5 starts.

Race 4 – 90-105 H’cap, D9f

The first upset of the evening came in what always looked a difficult race as Rampallian (GB) scored a nearly 2 length victory over Frankie Dettori’s mount, Familiar Territory (GB). There was a huge gap of 7 lengths back to Impeller (IRE), the old man having his 91st start. Mike De Kock’s two entrants, Bennie Blue (SAF) and Limehouse (SAF) strangely took on each other up front for much of the race. Both predictably faded out with Bennie Blue hanging on for a distant fourth place.

Race 5 – 100+ H’cap, D9f

Like race 2, this event was switched to the dirt from the turf. It produced one of the most impressive performances of the evening as Lucky Find (SAF) thrashed his rivals by coming home 7.50 lengths ahead of Third Set (Ire), with a further 3 lengths back to Rosberg (USA). Only 7 runners took part as 5 were withdrawn, possibly due to the surface change, but hopes must be high in the De Kock camp of a tilt at a big race with Lucky Find.

Race 6 – Gr3, D8f

The best performance of the night came in the main race as Happy Boy (BRZ) toyed with his rivals, winning by 9 lengths. His rider was looking over his shoulder for opposition as much as 400 metres from home, couldn’t find any, and coasted home. Happy Boy could have won by further had he been asked to. Happy Boy was making his first start on dirt and racing over a distance that looked shorter than his best, so it’s no surprise that his connections are talking about the next leg of the Maktoum Challenge and a possible shot at the World Cup. Gloria De Campeao (BRZ) snatched second place from Frosty Secret (USA) on the line. Jack Sullivan (USA) ran well below his ability and State Shinto (USA) is crying out for his retirement to a green pasture.

Race 7 – 95-110 H’cap, D7.5f

In yet another race switched from the turf to the dirt, Brazilian breds again took home the exacta as Happy Runner scored by 2.50 lengths from Objeto De Arte. Azarole (IRE) was under a length further back in third. Heart Alone (BRZ) was pulled up in running. The race produced a typical handicap result, not too much covering most of the field.

[4

post-5339","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-general
["GET
