Longshot Three Taps(KY) <\/B>did exactly what she needed to do, posting a second straight career best speed figure, and taking advantage of all the breaks that came her way, to surprise the field in a thriller in this week\u2019s Woody\u2019s Affairs Challenge. This was the second straight race she has grabbed right at the wire. Overlooked by oddsmakers at nearly 19\/1 odds, the four year old mare grabbed her first stakes victory in her first attempt at this level of competition. The victory pushed her earnings to the 100K mark, giving her $101292 in her twelve career starts. It also shot her up the divisional rankings ladder, moving her from a starting rank of 562 into the top two fifty at a 234 ranking. As predicted, this one was a bettor\u2019s race, and it turned out better than anyone but the most savvy handicapper could have predicted, with only one of the six top rated horses cracking the trifecta. The longshot winner paid a healthy $39.90 $19.30 $10.30 across the board. Exotics were off the charts, as well, with a $288.70 payout in the exacta and a whopping $4107.80 in the trifecta.<\/P>
Favorite A.P. Geisha <\/B>broke out on top early, shadowed closely by Geisha Memoir<\/B>. A.P. Geisha, caught in an unexpected early duel, wasn\u2019t able to shake her shadow, as the two opened up a pair of lengths on the rest of the field. They hung up together right to the beginning of the stretch, where the early toll began to show on A.P. Geisha, and Geisha Memoir slid past, taking what was to be a short lived lead as they powered down the stretch. The second half of the stretch belonged to the closers, though, with Three Taps(KY) and Colorful Cadeaux(GB)<\/B> fighting it out head to head as they drove toward the wire. Three Taps(KY) found that last extra burst of energy, possibly from the slower early pace she adopted, nipping Colorful Cadeaux(GB) at the wire by a scant quarter length.
