The fifteenth race on the card today in Georgia was the Sanders Stakes. A field of eleven drew into today’s race to have a chance to win the prestigious turf race. All horses were calm during the post parade leading up to the starting gates, however once at the gates The Giant’s Gone (IRE), owned by zooom had to be coaxed into the gate after refusing to go in several occasions. After all eleven horses were loaded easily into the gate, the waiting for the start of the race began.
When the gates crashed open it was dontnagme trained co-favorite Theatrical Affair (IRE) who was out to an early lead of half a length over Crimson Secret, owned by nightracin/ Running a length back in third was slim owned Our Little Secret with Shirley You Mambo, trained by ajm, another one-fourth length back. Running behind in fifth and sixth were Lookadat Von and Draco, owned and trained by theodore5 and spqr respectively. Breaking out of the gate last and seven and a half lengths off the pace early on in the race was mccoy trained Rise To KLP.
Theatrical Affair (IRE) was now leading by just three-fourths of a length over Crimson Secret in second. Our Little Secret was one and a half lengths back in third with Shirley You Mambo and Lookadat Von still running in fourth and fifth. Draco was still running in sixth with the other co-favorite, Ollie’s Quest. owned by beamnreasn, running in seventh.
In the final turn going into the stretch Crimson Secret now had the lead by one-fourth lengths over Theatrical Affair (IRE) who was now in second. Our Little Secret continued to run along in third, now a half length off the pace. Draco was beginning to make his move now and was up into fourth, pushing back Shirley You Mambo. Starting to move forward in the field was one of the co-favorites, Ollie’s Quest. Lookadat Von was falling out of the race now and was back in seventh. Beginning to make his move towards the outside was bumsofbums owned Concieve (IRE) who was in eighth but was only four lengths off the leader. Dancing Tenpin (IRE), owned by tenpin8, was dropping back. The Giant’s Gone (IRE) was maintaining position in tenth place with Rise To KLP still trailing the field as they came for home.
As the field came to the wire Crimson Secret and Theatrical Affair (IRE) battled it out for first and second, but Concieve (IRE), Draco, and Ollie’s Quest were moving like lightening and quickly gaining on the front runners of the field. Eventually they drew even and at the wire it was an upset with bumsofbums trained Concieve (IRE) winning the race by a narrow three-fourths of a length with a speed figure of one hundred twelve to edge out Draco n second. Ollie’s Quest finished third.
