For several years, the EWC residency has held a pair of
Showcase races early in the year. The
residency supports a number of sim-tracks in the game and residents breed 2
year olds for the Showcase race with sires that are located at the supported
tracks. The horses in the Showcase
races have the opportunity to reunite for a year-end stake race. A pair of races are scheduled for this
weekend, both going 5.5 furlongs with one on the turf and the other on the
grass.

This article will focus on the turf race which has an extra
large number of runners competing.

ORKAN BABY (#7
13/1) is owned by Royaldenmark and was bred in England. His mother, Lord Lady, was recently retired
after appearing on the track 11 times with one win. Golden Horn is the chosen as the sire. Not a bad choice as that one’s bloodline
includes Cape Cross which could work well with the mother’s bloodline which
adds nice linkages to Kingmambo and Roberto.

UNHOLY MAMBO (#9,
12/1) has been bred by owner Liddleski. This is an Australian bred filly out of
recently retired listed stake winning Sailing The Seas who won 5 times on the
grass with 39 lifetime starts and was ITM 21 times. Unholy Mambo was sired by Americain who’s
bloodline contains Dynaformer and Roberto.
This should fester well with the DS and DDS brought in by the mother
which are Sea The Stars and Kingmambo.
Looks like a solid turf lady.

NINELIVESCATSEYES (#15
30/1) belongs to Crawf68 who produced a colt using a sire named
Pounced. This guy was foaled in Italy
and his mother, The Cattery, was an allowance winner with 5 turf victories over
a 32 race career. This is her second
child and her first is still seeking a win.
The bloodline is loaded with dirt capabilithy with the likes of Storm
Cat, Grand Slam (as DS), Carson City (as DDS) and quite a bit of in-breeding
with Mr. Prospector in the sire, DS and DDS lineages. The mother, The Cattery, was successful on
the grass but there is much to overcome with strong dirt runners in the
bloodline as well as considerable in-breeding.

FRONTIER SKY (#5,
40/1) has been entered into the race by ownere Millerfarm. This is a dam-bred colt who was sired by
Frontiersman in England. Noble Sky, his
mother, was an allowance runner who scored 7 career wins (6 on turf) in 15
career races with just under $100,000 in purses. This is her second child and her first has a
win on the turf. The Dam Sire, Camelot,
looks to bring in strong turf support with Montjue, Kingmambo and Sadler’s
Wells providing a strong arm.

EWC MILLER FOUR (#14,
9/1) will keep the suds flowing for owner Cuetec. This is one of several fillies who have
entered into the grass race and she was born in Australia to sire Deer
Field. EWC Miller Four is the eleventh
child out of mare Mambo’s Sun who has two kids that have won listed
stakes. Mambo’s Sun appeared in 61 races
during her career and snagged a dozen wins.
The DS and DDS bring strong ability, especially on the grass with Monsun
sitting in as the DS and Kingmambo as the DDS.

LIVE OFF THE LAND (#11,
8/1) was bred in Japan by owner Kashbarn. Cape Blanco is the sire and was used with
game mare I Ken Be Queen who won 13 times in 35 races and was an allowance
winner. This is her second child and the
first born is winless as of this writing.
Frankel and Kingmambo are the DS and DDS and bring strong grass ability
to this filly. But there is in-breeding
with Galileo and Sadler’s Wells appearing in the lineage for both the sire and
DS that could have an impact.

CLASHING ACTS (#1,
12/1) is a dam-bred filly which is owned by Neonshadow. Her mother, Clash of Royalty, is an allowance
winner who was recently retired. She won
three turf races over her career which spanned 22 races. She was married to sire Magician and there
are top names in the bloodline of Galileo, Deep Impact (DS) and even Giant’s
Causeway (DSS) which can work well with the turf.

ELI MANNING (#16,
10/1) is owned by Sjmeola who is honoring the recent quarterback
retiree with this horse who has already been gelded. This horse was bred in England and is a
scratchbred with Cracksman as the sire, Danehill as dam-sire and Red Ransom as
dam-dam-sire. Cracksman is a second
year sire and offers up nice turf lineage to Frankel and Galileo to the back
end that is already nicely built with the turf in mind.

TSR’S BIG TOP (#3,
40/1) is owned by Tstack who was foaled in Australia by Trapeze
Artist, who is a first year sire. His
mother, TSR’s El Paso was an allowance winner who was very reliable as she was
ITM 16 of 17 races with 4 wins. She has
one other child who is currently trying to break their maiden. There is faith that the sire will be the
connection to the turf with blood connections to Snitzel and Redoute’s Choice
where the DS and DDS lines seem to favor the dirt with Grand Slam, Sunday
Silence and Tale of the Cat.

SKYLINE HF (#12,
21/1) makes her debut for owner Hemarfarms. She was bred in England by her sire
Cityscap. Her mother is Natural Act who
was not lucky at all on the track with only one win in 29 starts. She now has 10 children with one becoming a
grade winner. Skyline HF may be
suffering a little bit as the top name looks to be Theatrical as DS who brings
in Nureyev and Northern Dancer within the bloodline. Mother Natural Act has not had the best of
offspring and hopes that this one could change things.

SEPOY TWENTYTHREE (#4,
34/1) is a colt owned by Jm23stable and is a dam-bred colt. The colt has been sired by Sepoy in
Australia and is out of allowance winning game-mare Yamb Cries who had nice
success winning 20 times in 51 races all coming on the turf. This is the second child from the mare with the
strong bone in the bloodline coming from sire Sepoy who has connections to
Danehill. Although the bloodline is not
overly robust with big name sires, the success that mother Yamb Cries has had
could be well placed within this runners abilities.

SHOWMAN FURY (#8,
10/1) is owned by
Marky4577. This colt is a he-mare bred
horse out of War of the Planets, a horse who had nice breeding but did not race
well with one win in 15 lifetime starts.
Showman Fury was foaled in Japan by sire Johannesburg and pulls some top
names in the bloodline with Sea The Stars (DS), Dansili (DDS), Danehill, Danzig
and even dirt leaning Storm Cat. The
grass ability is definitely present but the question is how much impact will
the he-mare’s ability weigh into the equation.

REVE MUZZLE (#6, 120/1)
is owned by Brit9 who opted to go the scratchbred route. The result was a colt who has been sired by
Reve Mistral with White Muzzle as DS and Damister as DDS. The top line does not look that impeding but
within the lineage are links to the likes of King Kamehameha, Kingmambo, Mr.
Prospector and Raise A Native. It should
be noted that Reve Mistral is a first year sire with one child who has already
raced this year and finished third on the grass with a 61 speed. Not a bad first time speed and that could be
a good sign for the Japan bred Reve Muzzle.

FINANCIAL LITERACY (#2,
16/1) will be making his first start for owner Atthewire. He is a South Korean bred colt out of First
Defence. His mother, Crossing the Wire
is an allowance winner with 5 wins in 25 starts, two coming on the turf and
three on the poly surface. She has
three previous children, all of which have won at least once at the allowance
level. Sire First Defence brings in a
lot of well known dirt lineages that include Unbridled’s Song, Seattle Slew and
Unbridled. However, there is strength
with Galileo (DS) and Cape Cross (DDS) on the backside of the breeding which
can level the ground or maybe even slant things towards a turf runner.

EXCEPTIONATELY (#10,
9/1) is a filly who is owned by Smittie684. She is a dam-bred who has been sired by
Nathaniel in England. She is the fourth
child from game-mare Exceed Expectation who did not live up to her name and had
a short career with only 8 starts with one win which came on the dirt. One of her children is an allowance winner
who had a top-3 finish in a graded race.
As for Exceptionately, the turf ability resides in the sire and dam sire
with names like Galileo, Danehill, Sadler’s Wells and Danzig. The DDS brings some dirt ability with AP
Indy (DDS), Seattle Slew and Secretariat.
The mother raced both surfaces and did not excel on either. Hopefully, this one will excel and it may
just be on the turf.

A.P. UNFAIR TALENT (#17, 9/2) is owned by Tyedye and was foaled in
Great Britain by sire Frankel. His
mother, A. P. Rizz Kid is a G3 winner with over $600,000 in career earnings and
8 wins (all on turf) over 44 races. She
has bred 13 children with two becoming grade winners and another five winning
listed stakes. With Frankel as the
sire, there is strong turf blood on this end with links to Galileo, Danehill
and Sadler’s Wells. The back end of AP
Indy (DS) and Unbridled (DDS) tend to favor the dirt surfaces. Unfair Talent, will probably favor the turf
as many of his brothers and sisters have found favor with this surface.

SHOW PROMISE (#13,
7/1) goes into the gate for the first time for owner Denovo who bred
this filly in Great Britain using New Approach as the sire. Queen Connection is the game-mare for this
baby who is an allowance winner and has now bred 10 kids, of which two have won
listed stake races. Over her career,
Queen won three times on the turf and raced a total of 32 times. A very nice lineage of turf blood sticks out
in the breeding line with Kingmambo as DS and Redoute’s Choice as DDS. Along with the sire, there are crosses to
Galileo, Danehill, Mr. Prospector and a few other large names.

The talent in the race looks to be with the favorite A.P.
Unfair Talent. The bloodline is solid
and lots of stake winners out of the game mare. Gets the top choice.

EWC Miller Four gets second pick as owner Cuetec always
seems to get a piece of something and this something has a well race mother
with a few stake winning children.

Show Promise also has a mother that has produced stake
winners and the bloodline has nice solid names that have the grass in their
liking.

Exceptionately has top of the line names in the lineage and
can’t be ruled out.

For several years, the EWC residency has held a pair of Showcase races early in the year.
