With fall slowly turning into Winter and Thanksgiving behind us (in Canada anyways) the last of the Blueberries have been picked and are being cooked up into the sweet jam and preserves to last over the hard winter season. So it is fitting that one of the final Graded races of the season at Ontario is The Grade III Blueberry Stakes for Fillies and Mares 3 years old and upwards going 7 furlongs on the dirt course. A full field of 14 have passed the entry box and will be chasing the top share of the $125,000 purse.<\/P>
Let’s take a look at today’s field:<\/P>
1)SJ’S GREELEY N ME(KY)—22\/1—<\/STRONG>factorx sends this 3 year old filly out of MR. GREELEY with a record of 15-8-0-2 and lifetime earnings of $377,120. She is out of the mare FANCY GUPPY who was 9\/39 at the track and this is the only foal on record to date. This 49th divisional ranked filly races for Sjmeola racing based over at the rejuvinated East-West Connection residency. This filly won 4 races as a 2 year old, 3 on the dirt and 1 on the grass in an overnite stakes race. This year she has picked up 4 overnite stakes wins of which 2 came on off tracks which have accounted for half her lifetime wins. That will not be a factor in today’s race. She posted her lifetime best 101 speed rating 2 starts back while winning The Nevada Aligator Stakes in Nebraska over 6.5 furlongs on the dirt in a race against older company. She tried a Grade III turf sprint stake last time out and cut all the fractions before fading to 6th in the stretch but that may interest some of the turf to dirt handicappers for today’s race. This frontrunner will be expected to cut the early fractions and will need to be at her best to fend of the field in the stretch drive. The rider for today’s race will be Iginla (11.4%). PROJECTED SPEED RATING—99.<\/STRONG><\/P> 2)NAILED TO THE GUN—15\/1—<\/STRONG>soulbleed sends this 5 year old mare out of JAVA GOLD with a record of 33-10-5-4 and lifetime earnings of $285,757. This 37th divisional ranked mare races for the Black Label stables based over at Del\/Penn National. This mare was unraced as a 2 year old and won 3 allowance races in her 3 year old season. She picked up 3 more allowance wins last year as she was internally transferred several times withing the Black Label stables conglomorate. This year she has won 4 times including 3 overnite stakes races and will be looking for her first Graded win today. She posted her lifetime best 103 speed rating while finishing 4th earlier this year in The Grade II Go For It Handicap in Arkansas. She is a stalker who sits midpack early and then presses for the lead in the final turn and has shown sprinting to be her preffered game. The rider for today’s race will be Toral (13.7%). PROJECTED SPEED RATING—101.<\/STRONG><\/P> 3)QUIETFUL(PA)—19\/1—<\/STRONG>pennfarm sends this 3 year old filly out of REAL QUIET with a record of 9-4-2-1 and lifetime earnings of $269,663. She is out of the mare FULL A.P. who was 6\/23 at the track and who has 5 foals on record, all winners including 3 stakes winners. This 77th divisional ranked filly races for the Del\/Penn division of Techranger’s Chayely A stables. This filly raced once as a 2 year old and the broke her maiden in her 3 year old debut. She has added 2 long sprint overnite stakes since then this year. She posted her lifetime best 106 speed rating while winning The Del\/Penn Test stakes, a restricted residency stakes race 2 starts back. She is a frontrunning filly who should be challenging on the lead and in her Graded debut last time out against older foes for the first time in The Grade I World Cup Ladies Long Sprint cut the fractions before tiring badly in the stretch. PROJECTED SPEED RATING—102.<\/STRONG><\/P> 4)STIRLING FORM—7\/1—<\/STRONG>jrogue2 sends this 4 year old mare out of A.P. INDY with a record of 13-6-2-1 and lifetime earnings of $414,850. She is out of the he-mare STORM HALO who was 2\/12 at the track. This 4th divisional ranked mare races for the unafilliated Jrogue stables. This mare was unraced as a 2 year old and broker her maiden in her lifetime debut last year. This year she has 5 wins including 4 stakes of which 2 were Graded stakes events in The Grade II Unthinkable Stakes in New Hampshire and The Grade III Inner City Sprint in Illinois. She posted her lifetime best 111 speed rating last time out while finishing 3rd in The Grade I Dancer Cap in New York. She is a closer who sits near the back of the field early and her style suggests she should have no problems with today’s distance. The rider for today’s race will be Renfroe (18.1%). PROJECTED SPEED RATING—107.<\/STRONG><\/P> 5)THNXMSSLEW—9\/1—<\/STRONG>polandfarm sends this 4 year old mare out of FORTY NINER with a record of 26-8-6-3 and lifetime earnings of $1,341,080. She is out of the mare MS SLEW who was 14\/39 at the track and who has 3 foals on record, all winners including this Graded winner. This 16th divisional ranked mare races for Doctahg’s stables based over at Del\/Penn National. This mare was a 5 time winner at 2 years old including 3 Graded wins in The Grade I Hoserhead Juvenile Fillies, The Grade I The Ms Slew Handicap named after her proud mother and The Grade II Stoker Handicap. She added a pair of stake wins to her record last year including The Grade II Fence Fryer stakes but her only win this year came in her 2007 debut in a turf allowance race. She has been snakebitten this year having posted many top 3 finishes in Graded stakes but just has not been able to find the winners circle in what is becoming a very frustrating season. She has twice posted her lifetime best 108 speed rating this year including in her last race where she finished a closing 3rd in The Grade III Dolly Prummond Stakes in Malaysia. She is a closer who’s rallies have been coming up short this year suggesting she will need all 7 of the furlongs in this race today and also will need to time her move perfectly to be able to get up at the wire. The rider for today’s race will be Dro (12.1%). PROJECTED SPEED RATING—105.<\/STRONG><\/P> 6)REDSHAFT—7\/1—<\/STRONG>lenny16 sends this 4 year old mare out of MINESHAFT with a record of 24-10-2-3 and lifetime earnings of $265,334. She is out of the mare JERRY’S SEINFELD who was 2\/20 at the track and who has 2 foals on record, both winners including this stakes winner. This 47th divisional ranked mare races for The Evil Empire based over at the GR Simsters. This mare broker her maiden in her only start in her 2 year old season. Last year she had 6 wins including 2 overnite stakes wins. She has added 3 more stakes wins this year and will be looking for her first Graded stakes win today. PROJECTED SPEED RATING—106.<\/STRONG><\/P> 7)SUFFRAGETTE CITY—9\/1—<\/STRONG>sdmf5 sends this 5 year old mare out of CARSON CITY with a record of 34-7-6-5 and lifetime earnings of $515,419. This 46th divisional ranked mare is a stablemate of #2 NAILED TO THE GUN over at the Black Label Stables out of the Del\/Penn National. This mare did not race as a 2 year old and while both of her 1st two wins were on the dirt she was flipping back and forth between dirt and turf racing in her 3 year old season. She picked up 4 wins including 2 overnite stakes win last year and has another stakes win this season albeit she has had several top 3 finishes in Graded stakes races. She posted her lifetime best 110 speed rating last year while finishing 2nd in The Grade III Toboggan Handicap in New Jersey on a sloppy track. She is a closer who usually comes up short in her late rally resulting in her being winless in her last 8 starts. The extra furlong in today’s race can only be beneficial to this mares chances in this race. The rider for today’s race will be K. McCafferty (11.2%). PROJECTED SPEED RATING—103.<\/STRONG><\/P> 8)FETISH(KY)—10\/1—<\/STRONG>super26 sends this 3 year old filly out of CRYPTOCLEARANCE with a record of 17-6-4-4 and lifetime earnings of $291,274. She is out of the mare MIDNITE KAT who was 11\/71 at the track and who has 2 foals on record, both winners including this stakes winner. This 17th divisional ranked filly races for Super’s More Evil Than The Evil Empire stables based over at Del\/Penn National. This filly broker her maiden in her 3rd lifetime start albeit her first start on a fast track last year in her 2 year old season. This year she has 5 wins including 3 overnite stake wins and will be looking for her first Graded stakes win today. She posted her lifetime best 109 speed rating last time out while finishing a closing 2nd in The Grade III Dolly Prummond Stakes in Malaysia last time out against older foes. This closer sits at the back of the pack early and saves her best run for the stretch drive and should benefit from the extra distance in this long sprint today. The rider for today’s race will be Cogswell (16.4%). PROJECTED SPEED RATING—107.<\/STRONG><\/P> 9)OUT OF IRAQ—9\/1—<\/STRONG>dokki sends this 5 year old mare out of FORTY NINER with a record of 24-6-7-5 and lifetime earnings of $226,428. This 58th divisional ranked mare races for the unafilliated Dokki stables. This mare was unraced as a 2 year old and was primarily a turf runner until early this year. She did win 3 races on the lawn but has settled into a dirt sprinter for this season. She has won 2 stakes races in her 3 dirt wins so far this year and will be looking for her first Graded stakes win here today. She posted her lifetime best 110 speed rating earlier this year while winning the 7 furlong The Perfect Story Challenge Stakes in South Korea. This stalker does not sit to far back behind the early leaders and makes her move in the far turn. The rider for today’s race will be Coleman (10.4%). PROJECTED SPEED RATING—105.<\/STRONG><\/P> 10)RAY’S CAUSEWAY(IRE)—14\/1—<\/STRONG>browns2 sends this 4 year old mare out of GIANT’S CAUSEWAY(IRE) with a record of 29-9-6-1 and lifetime earnings of $431,708. She is out of the mare MURF RAY who was 13\/61 at the track and who has 3 foals on record, all winners including this Graded stakes winner. This 9th divisional ranked mare races for the Ace Stables based over in Ireland. This mare was primarily a turf runner until the spring of 2006 and did post one win on each surface up to that time. She picked up an additional 3 allowance wins on the dirt after switching to that surface full time during the season last year and has picked up 4 more wins this year including 3 stakes wins hilited by the Grade II Lil’ Leprechaun Dash in Ireland where she posted her lifetime best 109 speed rating over the 7 furlong dirt sprint. She comes into this race off a 3rd place finish in the World Cup Ladies sprint. She has a frontrunning style and will have alot of company vying for the front end in today’s race. She is out of the mare PUSHING FORTY who was 2\/10 at the track and who has 3 foals on record of which 2 are winners including 1 stakes winner and another Graded stakes winner. This mare broker her maiden in a GR Simsters restricted stakes race as a 2 year old and added 2 more wins including another stakes win in her freshman year. This year she has 4 wins including her last 3 starts of which the past 2 have been stakes wins. She posted her lifetime best 109 speed rating 2 starts back while winning The Bitter State Special stakes in Wyoming over 7 furlongs on the dirt. This closer sits midpack early and will have alot of pace to chase in the stretch drive. The rider for today’s race will be King (10%). PROJECTED SPEED RATING—108.<\/STRONG><\/P> 12)CORMORANT CREEK—12\/1—<\/STRONG>dosstables sends this 4 year old mare out of STRODES CREEK with a record of 10-6-2-0 and lifetime earnings of $278,700. This 7th divisional ranked mare races for the LeeSnyder stables based in Vermont at The Pastures of Green. It was a humble beginning for this mare who won her lifetime debut race in her only start as a 3 year old last year in a $4K maiden claimer on the turf. She switched to the dirt in her 2nd start this year and won her first 5 starts on the surface earlier this year including 2 stakes hilited by The Grade II Delta Tau Chi Sprint in Nebraska. She posted her lifetime best 112 speed rating in her next start while finishing 2nd in The Grade I Dancer Cap in New York over 7 furlongs on the dirt. She is a closer who sits at the back of the field early and gives her backers heart attacks when she runs as she usually wait until the last possible moment to make her move to get up at the wire. The rider for today’s race will be Townsend (14.4%). PROJECTED SPEED RATING—108.<\/STRONG><\/P> 13)AGAIN WITHTHE GOLD—7\/1—<\/STRONG>barn25dog sends this 5 year old mare out of AWESOME AGAIN with a record of 27-12-4-3 and lifetime earnings of $593,527. This 28th divisional ranked mare rases for the RASH division of The Dog Pound stables. This mare did not start racing until last year in her 4 year old season. She won 7 times last year including 6 allowance wins and 1 overnite stakes race. She has 5 wins this year including 4 more stakes race wins. She posted her lifetime best 109 speed ratings back to back earlier this year in a pair of dirt sprint stake races in New Mexico and in The Smackdown residence challenge in Texas. While she does show early gate speed she would probably be better suited to stalk just off the pace in this race today due to the abundance of speed horses line up already in this field. The rider for today’s race will be Conrad (12.2%). PROJECTED SPEED RATING—103.<\/STRONG><\/P> 14)CHEYENNE GOLD—9\/1—<\/STRONG>ozioziozi sends this 4 year old mare out of SEEKING THE GOLD with a record of 29-10-7-2 and lifetime earnings of $702,560. She is out of the mare CHEYENNE STORM who was 10\/52 at the track and who has 4 foals on record, all winners including this Graded stakes winner. This 23rd divisional ranked mare races for the Ozsteve stables based in Ireland. This mare was unbeaten in her first 4 lifetime starts including all 3 starts as a 2 year old including 2 stakes wins. She won 6 races last year including a hot stretch were she won 3 straight Graded starts in The Grade III Cadoka stakes in New York, The Grade II Pebbles Flinstones stakes in Nebraska and The Grade III Bob Barker stakes in Wyoming. Her last win last year came in an allowance race on the turf in a short 2 race turf experiment that was abandoned this year. She has picked up a stake win in her only victory this year to date and while running good speed rating times has developed a habit of not being able to carry her speed all the way to the wire usually tiring in the late stretch. With the other speed inside of her in this race it will be difficult for her again today if she chooses to run the same racing style. The rider for today’s race will be Ceciliani (8%).
