It is Bargain Bowl time as the third edition of the series restricted to bargain bred runners roles out with its strongest fields yet. The fields have gotten better and better. It is a pretty competitive balance and that could lead to some stakes record times being run this weekend. There will be several defending champions returning this year to face some up and coming runners.

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

The Bargain Bred Racing Series (BBRS) offers races of different types throughout most of the year. The year featured 17 stakes races restricted to three year old and older Bargain Breds plus eight allowance races for two year olds. The Bargain Bowl is the big year end event that features ten races more races bringing our year end total to 27 Stakes Races for Bargain Breds!! We have to start with Hustlin Hoosier winner of the first two running of the Bargain Classic. Hustlin Hoosier is nearing the million dollar mark in career earnings and boasts three career wins in BBRS races. Hoosier has won the biggest race for Bargain Breds two years running. He is slowing down a bit in his old age. He is now five years old and will be making his forty seventh career start. He has made both the route races in this years series with a pair of third place finishes. He earned a 109 speed figure to start this year odd winning a listed stakes race. He is a closer who has been slightly off form recently. He should bounce back and run a good race here but with this years competition will that be enough.

Lager is the morning line favorite. Unlike some of his competition here he has yet to win a stakes race. Lager though has really come along here over the summer. His last four races he has earned 100+ speed figures. He was second in the Bargain Summer Classic and followed that race up with a nice win at the 4x allowance condition to prep for this race. He will be close to the early pace if not setting the pace and looks like a very real threat to win the race.

Local Delegator is the winner of the Bargain Summer Classic. He took what is a typical route to improvement for many runners. He was pretty solid early in his career. He was able to make it through a $5,000 claimer with out being claimed. He used the tag to gain confidence in start allowances. He went on a five race win streak in starter company before stepping up to the Bargain Summer Classic. He prep race was not too good but he should be fresh for his race here. He might have been a bit tired going into his last being his fifteenth start in the first nine months and a week of the year. He should be stalking and a definite threat to win here.

The long shot to watch for is Quart Low. He is a lightly raced three year old with just six career races. The one big negative is he comes into the race on a more than two month layoff. Still he has shown a good deal of talent. It took him three tries to break his maiden but he won an entry level allowance after that in nice fashion and then posted a 103 speed figure finishing second in a second level allowance. In his last race he took part in a residency restricted race in which the winner ran a 111 speed figure. He was hurt during that race finishing sixth of fifteen. The injury meant having to train him up to this point. He is fresh and should be near the lead early.

Race: 3399.7615 The Cougar Bite Classic – $250,000
Track: Connecticut
Restrictions: All horses, 3 years old and up
Distance: A mile and one quarter on the Turf

While he is not the favorite here Pepe’s Pipes is a grade one winning bargain bred and one of the few bargain bred millionaires in the sim. He won this first ever running of this race, has a grade three and a grade one win to his credit. The six year old was a big part of making the series special in its first year. He also won the first Bargain Arc race as well. He has yet to get that elusive third win on the Bargain Series and has slowed down a bit with age. He has run solid speed figures this year and will be looking for that one last flash of glory. He is a front runner and prepping at longer distances for this race could pay off for him. If no one tests him early the wily vet could be a danger.

Ten Lost Pyramids is your race favorite and he looks strong. He started his career in maiden claimers and was claimed from his third career race by his current trainer curiousstud. He won his next race an entry level allowance and since then has been a regular in listed stakes. He took the BBRS Hunt Turf Cup for his first career stakes win with a solid speed figure. His last race he just missed in a listed stakes losing by a head earning a 107 speed figure. He might be a level above most of the runners in this race however we have scene in other Bargain Bowl events runners like this have trouble winning. He is a stalker to mid pack runner that shows up every time out. He will be a force on Saturday.

Clearance Clarence is another runner that has been with the series from the beginning. He was there for the first Bargain Ark and Cougar Bite Classic where he was third and second. The next year he was second in the Wombat Cup and third again in this race. He has made all three of the long turf races this year with a fifth place finish in the Hunt Turf Cup, second in the Bargain Ark, and second in the Wombat Cup. As you can see he is a gamer having only finished off the board in one of his seven bargain races. I suspect he will be right there again this week.

Seventeen to one Sister Rocky is a real danger here. This three year old filly is coming into this race in good order. She did not break her maiden until her eighth career race. She has followed that up with two more allowance wins as the distances have gotten a little longer for her. She won her last earning a 99 speed figure while winning by three lengths. She is a stalker type and should represent her sex very well against the boys.

Race: 3399.7614 The Cemetery Winter Distaff – $250,000
Track: Connecticut
Restrictions: Fillies and mares, 3 years old and up
Distance: A mile and one eighth on the Dirt

We have co favorites in a full field of fillies and mares and this race might be one of the most competitive of the day. Despite changing trainers a couple of times Shadowy Muff has mad the Bargain Bowl in each of its three years. In the first two years she was in the sprint and did not finish very well. This year though she is stretching out. She has run in four BBRS races this year finishing third in the Death Valley Distaff, first in the Broadway Sprint, second in the Sugar and Spice Sprint and she won the Summer Distaff with a good 102 speed figure. The distance might be a slight issue but she seems to like a route of ground as well as sprinting. She should be close to the pace and with a win here will have put together one hell of year in this series.

Dodge The Vicar won the first running of the Charlie’s Tiger Juvenile so she has already experienced Bargain Bowl success. She would take on the boys and win the Bargain Derby as a three year old. She was fading a bit at the end of last year and did not run a real good race in this event last year although she was fourth. She was claimed this year and that has turned her form around. She is running good solid speed figures. She was fourth at the Summer Distaff but only by a few lengths. I think she is better at this slightly longer distance so she could very well turn the tables on Shadowy Muff.

Piebald Maze might be in her best form in a long time. She made the first running of the Bargain Oaks where she was fifth and was here for the first running of this race but she did not finish well finishing twenty two lengths behind the winner that day. She would take on the boys the next year in the Bargain Summer Classic and finish second, then switch to the turf where she was third in the Bargain Princess. That lead to a much improved finish here last year where she ran second. She was the winner of the Death Valley Distaff earlier this year and third in the Summer distaff. She is in good form and comes from a mid pack or toward the back of the pack.

Berosus is a three year old filly who looks pretty sharp. She made her BBRS debut this year against the boys in the Bronx. The race was probably to long for her at a mile and three eighths. She is a good route runner as she rebounded in the Summer Distaff to finish a very good second. She prepped for this race with a good allowance win earning a 102 speed figure. She comes from off the pace and has a legitimate shot.

Wannaby Marooned makes her BBRS debut. She has been running in longer dirt route races. Her speed figures are solid and she is stakes placed at a mile and a half. What is interesting is that some runners that run well at this distance are capable of turning it up a notch when cutting back in distance. She will probably be close to the pace stalking the race and if she has the speed early she can upset the apple cart here.

Race: 3399.7613 The Vimes Turf Distaff – $125,000
Track: Connecticut
Restrictions: Fillies and mares, 3 years old and up
Distance: A mile and three sixteenths on the Turf

This race has been full of surprises in the first two runnings. Not a Moo Cow was a four time stakes winner one of which was a grade three race. She was a heavy favorite in the first two runnings of this race but Over Highland took her down both times. Over Highland has not faired well in a pair of Bargain Princess runs but in this race she is a monster. She knows how to show up on a big race day but it is possible her fifty three career races could be catching up with her. She comes into this race not much different than she has in the past. This big race runner is not the favorite but she should be respected.

Baby Bam is the morning line favorite although she is vulnerable. She was second in this years Bargain Princess. She ran in the 2006 Bargain Princess and ran fourth. Her speed figures are not dazzling because of that she does seem a bit vulnerable. She is consistent and was near the front in her last race. Usually she is a little further back and closes.

The Mods makes her BBRS debut. She is a filly that has been running in the long distance turf races. She has not run this short in about a year. She has been knocking around in allowance races this summer running consistent hitting the board as well a getting a win at two miles. She could relish the cut back in distance having already won twice at the distance. She will likely be coming from off the pace here closing from toward the back of the pack.

Champaigne is a maiden about to maker her third career start. She has shown the talent in two maiden races to make her a consideration here. She has a pair of 90’s speed figures in her maiden tries and very likely will be the pace setter in this race. The race does not have a dominant force to contend with every filly in the race can win it so why not go with one that will be on the lead. With a little improvement she could break her maiden in style.

Race: 3399.7612 The Kaif Mile – $125,000
Track: Connecticut
Restrictions: All horses, 3 years old and up
Distance: One mile on the Turf

We have co favorites in the mile in what is competitive field of milers set to run this Saturday. Ankaline is one of those favorites and a veteran of the BBRS. He made his first appearance last year taking the Bargain Ark and finishing second in the Cougar Bite Classic. This year he has a third place finish in the Hunt Turf Cup, an impressive win in the Kamikaze Mile, and a repeat win in the Bargain Ark. He appears to be better at this one mile distance than he has been in the longer races. Ankaline has speed and will probably go right to the front and set the pace. He has a pair of 100+ speed figures recently and could be very tough.

Playing Ground is a sharp looking three year old. He made his BBRS debut this year in the 100 Guineas where he finished third after setting the pace. Since then he has won a listed stakes and two races back took down an open allowance with a 107 speed figure. He is a pace influence so it will be interesting to see who sets the pace here between the two favorites. He has shown he can sit just off the pace but the three year old looks like he is ready for stardom.

Far Beyond the Sun took this race with ease last year winning by two lengths. He was around in the beginning so will be making his third start in the Kaif Mile. His only win this year came in January but he has been running some very nice races. He earned a 103 speed figure finishing third in an allowance, and he was second in the Kamikaze Mile to Ankaline. He can run with the favorites. His last race was on an off surface which he appeared to not like. He should be stalking the early pace and if the top two burn each other out he could be the one to pick up the pieces.

The three year old filly Shoaib Akhtar has been a very sharp filly. She was a bargain recommendation straight from the Breeding Corner. She is another in which starter allowance races really helped her to gain confidence and run at a higher level. She made a start against the boys in the 100 Guineas and finished a solid forth. From there she has won three of four. She has a 104 speed figure and won the Bargain Princess prior to this race so looks to be in good form. Sixteen runners with hit the starting gates for the Tale of Two Places. The Real Deal is the morning line favorite with some very good speed figures. He is another that has used the starter allowance pipeline to new found form. He has changed hands several times during his career but is now putting together a great year. He has seven wins this year. He started the year in starter allowances and did not run in his first allowance till July which he won. His last race was a win at the 3x allowance condition where he earned a 106 his third 100+ speed figure in the last few months. He is adept at a mile or in a sprint. He will be coming from off the pace here with a big chance.

Empire of Damascus is a good looking three year old. He just missed at the Bargain Derby this year carrying his speed over a route of ground. He appears to more of a sprinter though as he ran third in a listed stakes sprint, and won a pair of allowance races including his last with a 106 speed figure. He stalks the pace and should in a good position to win this race.

Coral Crowd is a veteran runner that has cleared his first three allowance conditions this year earning a couple of 100+ speed figures. He likes to be off the pace here and that might be a crowded place but he has shown he does not run any dull races.

Several three year olds catch the eye. Two appear to be the pace setters this week. Azroc Mystery has turned in three very good efforts since being claimed. He has a pair of second place finishes in allowances and ran a decent race in the Calvacade Cup. He has a recent 103 speed figure and will likely press the pace. Ballista has really improved since dropping back to sprints winning a couple of allowances while earned several upper 90’s speed figures. He looks to be the speed of the race with some improvement he could be there. Fancy Grey has changed hands a couple of times. He has been running well in starter allowances and comes from off the pace. Chance for Delta was there from the beginning of the series. She won the first four starts of her career including a pair of listed stakes races. She would win the very first Bargain Oaks and then later that year this race in the Bargain Bowl. Last year she ran in three BBRS events winning this race again in the Bargain Bowl while second in the Sugar and Spice that year. This year she won the Sugar and Spice and now is back to defend her title. With four BBRS wins under her belt and a recent 100+ speed figure she could be tough. She started on the turf and was a pretty solid sprinter. She made the switch to dirt this year in the Broadway Sprint and finished second a head to Shadowy Muff the favorite in the Distaff. She would come back and avoid Chance for Delta to take on the boys in the Bargain Dash which she won. She backed that up with a win at the 4x condition before running a close up fourth in a restricted stakes where she earned a 106 speed figure. She prepped in an open allowance and was not all out that day so she should be primed for a top effort here. She is on the down side of her career with just one allowance win this year. She has two third place finishes in listed stakes races this year. She took August, September and most of October off prior to this race. She ran ok in her prep race maybe the time off will propel her to one more big run. This year the best form of her career earning three 100+ speed figures. Those are all allowance races including her last in which she won by two lengths. She looks the best coming into the race off that effort. She is a closer although is usually not too far from the early pace.

Scratched up is the second favorite and the first male mentioned in the race. He won this race last year and is the defending champion. He has not won a race since that race but comes into this race off three straight second place finishes. He was second in the Tokyo Sprint, second in a listed stakes and second in an allowance. He is another runner that tends to come from off the pace but in the short field that should not matter too much.

Race: 3399.7608 The Charlie’s Tiger Juvenile – $125,000
Track: Connecticut
Restrictions: All horses, 2 years old
Distance: Seven furlongs on the Dirt

Big Curve takes favoritism in the Charlies Tiger. He is a sharp looking two year old that has won three of his first four starts. His only blemish was a third place effort in a listed stakes. He prepped for this race by taking an allowance race restricted to bargain breds earning an 84 speed figure. He likes to keep close attention to the pace and with his speed figures seems a good favorite.

Rendevous Rate is another pretty good looking two year old. She only has one win in four races but she has been competitive in each race and running nice speed figures. Her last two have been a pair of second place finishes at the allowance level. Last time out she finished second in the allowance race for fillies but now has to face the boys. She tends to come from off the pace and could be a danger in the stretch.

Kiwi Hopes was a maiden winner at a mile. In his last race he was runner up to Big Curve although he did not really threaten him. Still these two year olds can show vast improvement in a short time. He will come from off the pace as well here.

Never Say Reckless is a maiden runner who finished second at the maiden special weight level in his only start. That run produced a 73 speed figure which seems to fit with these runners. He has had some time off so should be fresh and show improvement. The thing to like is he should flash speed and be near the lead early.

Race: 3399.7607 The Class Ack Juvenile – $125,000
Track: Connecticut
Restrictions: All horses, 2 years old
Distance: Seven furlongs on the Turf

The turf Juveniles are lead by Jones Spring. He broke his maiden way back in April and has been running in stakes all summer. He ran second or third in each of the four listed stakes he ran over the summer and in his prep for this race finished second in the Juvy Day allowance. He set the pace last time out and could do the same here if not he will be close up to the pace.

Altieri Sort broke her maiden last time out at a mile on the turf. She has had five career starts thus far but is putting up solid mid 70’s speed figures here. She has shown speed in each of her races thus far so should be right there in the early stages with Jones Spring.

Doomben made a start at the World Cup in her last race. She did not run very well but the fact she made the race is a sign of her class. She won the first two starts of her career her only off the board finish was the World Cup. She has been stalking in the early stages of races and showing the ability to close move forward. Her mid 70’s speed figures fit well here.

With an inside post you may want to keep an eye on Ziejain. He had a solid debut with a 78 speed figure and then won a maiden special weight restricted to bargain breds. That speed figure was not as good but he could easily move forward with the time off and increase in distance. He too will likely stalk the early pace.

[4

post-5091","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-general
["GET
