His trainer has been real patient with this one and he is having just the 9th race of his 3 yo career and this tender handling has been rewarded with a late improver. In each of his last four runs, all at a mile on the dirt he has put up a new pb each time which culminated in his last run in a restricted allowance in Norway where he got the drop at the gate and raced off into a big lead. He did get collared just before the post but he managed a big 108. Much better opposition here today and he has got to prove that he can sustain that sort of speed figure, but on the other hand he has only had 11 races so who`s to say the improvement stops there. Grade 1 winning form at 11 furlongs and winner of 3 ungraded stakes, he ran his highest ever speed figure last time out when finishing a respectable 5th at the World Cup over 10 furlongs with a 107 against older horses. He is going to have his work cut out for him here as there are some much speedier horse`s over the trip here and it may be a battle to stop himself falling too far behind as so he cant pick them up on the straight using his stamina. Rain may have well helped his chances as it may have slowed some of the speedier types down but it was not to be.

3) WII D`INVERNE songstable 111212 M Dorsey 5/1

3 yo Colt

Dubawi x Seattle Slew x Strike the Gold

13 runs 6 wins 2 seconds 1 third $421650

High class over 9 furlongs, where he has won and finished second in tew grade 2`s in his last 2 runs, he is in the form of his career and is going from strength to strength. He has managed to run a new pb in each of his last 6 runs and the big question is can he improve all the way to the top? He ran a huge 116 lto when finishing a gallant 2nd in the Bluegrass Cup Classic over 9 furlongs, beaten just a quarter of a length behind a classy looking winner. In his run before that he won a grade 2 by a quarter of a length, also over 9 furlongs, beating a field full of stakes winners, graded stakes winners and graded placed horses. Can he be as effective back over todays trip? His style of running suggest it shouldn`t be too much of a problem but whether he can get away with it in a field as hot as this remains to be seen.

4) WHO DO YOU LOVE Lenny9 361221 M Staples 5/1

3 yo Colt

Awesome Again x Damascus x Hoist the Flag

9 runs 5 wins 2 seconds 1 third $434530

He has looked high class from day 1, and after nine starts he still looks high class. Speedy sort who has the ability to put all those stepping down in trip in a bit of trouble. Like a fine wine is improving with age and comes here in fine fettle. Lto ran them ragged in an ungraded stakes at this track, pinging the gate and led them right up to the finish where he was rewarded for his efforts with a pb 115. Although ne has never won in graded class he finished 3rd in the Texas Derby back in April, which in hindsight was a decent effort as the extra half a furlong that day didn`t help his chances. His run 3 races back in a grade 1 over a mile at the Smackdown 3 meeting at North California was also a decent effort and also a bit of an eye opener as he wasn`t quick enough to take his customary position at the head of the field but didn`t sulk like so many frontrunners who cant get to the lead. He still ran his race and although defeated by 1 3/4 lengths grabbed runners up spot with a 106.Good chance here if running up to recent form as he has the beating of the favorite on his last run.

5) PRIDENPREJUDICE gwyneth 131320 Mo Turner 8/1

3 yo Colt

Fusaichi Pegasus x Seattle Slew x Forty Niner

13 runs 6 wins 2 seconds 1 third $636835

Looked a nice sort until being blown away in the World Cup mile last time out. Sent from Chilcoats Stables at Pastures of Green he is a grade 2 and a grade 3 winner earlier in the season. Certain to see this trip out it must be hoped that last run was just a blip as he looked progressive up to then. 2 runs back he excelled himself when finishing 2nd in a grade 1 at New Jersey, beaten 2 3/4 lengths with a 106. His best race to date came back in June when winning his grade 2 in Norway over a mile with a pb which still stands today, a 111. He has managed to run 100+ in each of his last 6 races, a sequence that has seen him unplaced in only 1 of these races which isn`t bad considering all but 1 were graded races. Lto ran well despite not being able to win an ungraded stakes and finishing behind one of todays rivals, Who do You Love. He was up near the pace as always but just could not get to the leader, going down by 1 1/2 lengths . His speed figure of 113 that day was a pb and he is going to have to keep that upward curve going if he is to get his head in front here.

8) PAUL THE APOSTILE theprofit5 433211 O Brim 29/1

3 yo Colt

Dixieland Band x Unbridled x The Axe II

Wow i just cant have this one. Impressive career stats, only ever being out of the money in 2 of his 12 races belies the fact that they 2 out of the money runs have come in his last 2 starts, albeit 2 grade 1`s over 10 furlongs. He won a grade 2 over 9 furlongs three runs back with a career best 112, which probably prompted his trainer to have have crack at 10 twice. These two runs over the mile and a quarter were pretty dismal for a horse of his ability. Hard to see him doing it today as he needs to bounce back to top form plus he`s a deep closer at 9 furlongs and will be falling even further behind in this race.

10) CHALET openmind 243162 M Billig 16/1

3 yo Colt

Kafwain x Out of Place x September Ciel

11 runs 4 wins 2 seconds 2 thirds $63935

Progressive colt, but not this class. Before that he was outclassed in that grade 2 nine furlong event won so impressively by Ghost Warden. That race is a gauge to what is going to be needed here, and this guy has quite a bit to find. Until that latest run, he was in fine form with himself, enjoying a frontrunning all the way win in an allowance Denmark, coming home in front by 1 3/4 lengths and recording a pb speed figure of 106. A 106 here might not even get a place, so for him it is also important he finds improvement to figure.

12) VERLANDER Buffy8 051022 A Lewis 20/1

3 yo Colt

Aptitude x Rahy x NijinskyII

11 runs 4 wins 4 seconds $465670

Now here is an interesting outsider. He surely is a 20/1 shot on everything he has done in his career so far right until his last run, which was a bolt right out of the the blue. Baring in mind the most he had achieved so far was a couple of stakes wins, both over longer and both with low speed figures (earlier in the season when it didnt take too high a speed figure to win a stakes) then to come out and run a 110 in a mile stakes, albeit in a defeated effort, was a massive improvement. In fact it was a huge 24 points better than his previous effort and either the penny has finally dropped or it was one of those flash in the pan moments that raise the hopes of many a trainer. Today we get that question answered, but judging the the bookmakers prices,we know which way they are leaning towards.

13) ICANDESCES hillylua 110231 A Dominguez 10/1

3 yo Colt

Quinton`s Gold x Forty Niner x Danzig

9 runs 4 wins 2 seconds 1 third $$70245

In great heart at present and if he runs as well as he did last time out, he can take a hand in the finish. He has only had two dabbles at stakes class, the best of these coming 3 runs back in August when he contested a 8.5 furlongs stakes in Illinois, aquitting himself well and finishing 2nd with a 98 speed figure. Ran 2 pb`s since then but by far the most impressive of those was last time out in an 8 furlongs restricted allowance in Eastern Kentucky, always near the pace and running on well to win by only half a length but recorded a massive 112. It has to be taken on trust that wasn`t a flash in the pan, but if it wasn`t he could be in business here.

14) APACHE SUNRISE poorman 252100 F Ford 12/1

3 yo Colt

Harlans Holiday x A.P. Needless to say with his last 2 races both being 10 furlongs grade 1, in which he has got stuffed in both it was vital for his chance of winning races to drop back to the mile. If its going to be another all the way win he is going to have to be very fast to see off Who Do You Love, which is not an easy task. However if you do see him with his head in front of that one at the gate then prospects of a win must be quite good but personally I think Who Do You Love will be just a shade too quick for him.

POGO PREDICTS

Whilst the favorite is a very good horse, Who Do You Love beat him fair and square last time out, and as Who Do You Love would appear to have more scope for improvement, there`s no real reason for the fav to overturn the form.
