The Spotlight shines its light upon the Arizona racetrack with coverage on a $7,500 claiming race open to fillies and mares age 4 and older.\u00a0 \u00a0They compete on a firm grass track and will be racing a mile in distance.\u00a0 Eight runners are entered with odds ranging from 7\/2 up to 9\/1 with no standouts and two co-favorites.\u00a0 Here’s a look at our field:<\/p>\n
1\u00a0 NOBLE FAMILY 6\/1-had a decent 2018 season picking up three wins along with a second and third in six races.\u00a0 \u00a0All the wins came in the low-end claiming levels and in sprints.\u00a0 As for this year, she has\u00a0 two starts with a fourth and a third.\u00a0 \u00a0She is a front runner and will need every ounce of stamina she can muster to get to the front side and hang on tight to make it last to the finish line.<\/p>\n
2. KINGSTON JUANA\u00a0 7\/2-a co-favorite in the field who has won 10 times in 16 lifetime starts, all on the turf.\u00a0 \u00a0In races of 8 to 8.25 furlongs, she has captured 6 wins in 8 starts.\u00a0 \u00a0She’s started the year with back to back wins, both in sprint distances and looks to add that with one at a mile.\u00a0 \u00a0Since the start of 2018, all of her races were inf fields of 8 or less with the exception of her last start which was a field of 14.\u00a0 \u00a0She’s a hot one and will be competitive in this race.<\/p>\n
3. ALAGEN\u00a0 9\/1-raced in each month during 2018 and took home three wins.\u00a0 At 8 to 8.25 furlongs she caught two of her wins in three starts which also includes a third.\u00a0 \u00a0So far, 2019 has not been friendly for this lady who has hit a cold run finishing 9th and 6th in her pair of starts at a mile and 7.5 furlong distances.\u00a0 Her last start was against $50,000 claimers and was probably over her head but she still seems to be out of form and may need a little rest to get her legs back.<\/p>\n
4.\u00a0 FREE SALLY\u00a0 4\/1-makes her first start of the year and has been on a break since early December, 2018.\u00a0 She’ll take a sizeable drop in the claiming ranks where her last three races weere at levels of $40,000 and up.\u00a0 \u00a02018 contained 7 starts where she hit the board once with a win, way back in January.\u00a0 While she needs the class drop she may also need a start or two to get her form going.\u00a0 \u00a0I don’t expect much in this one, but she is capable of a late kick and I think there may be some improvement in her next start if she comes back within a month and stays at a similar level.<\/p>\n
5.\u00a0 TWELVE THOUGHTS\u00a0 6\/1-a dirt\/turf runner who spent all of 2018 on the soil racing 13 times, primarily in sprints.\u00a0 \u00a0Six wins came her way, two via HOT races, and one at a distance at a mile in a low-end claimer.\u00a0 \u00a02019 saw her switch to the turf for the first time since she was a two year old and she landed in 6th in her first outing at 8.25 furlongs but improved off that as she dropped out of $15,000 to $10,000 claimers and into a 6 furlong event where she crossed the line in 2nd.\u00a0 Lifetime she’s been ITM 10 of 13 on the grass with 2 wins.\u00a0 The drop in class is small, basically one notch and I’m concerned about the distance as her start two back wasn’t inspiring.<\/p>\n
6.\u00a0 RING TO COLLECT\u00a0 7\/2-the 2018 season is one that this mare would like to forget.\u00a0 \u00a0In ten starts, she was winless and hit the board only twice.\u00a0 Her best speed of 97 did come at a distance of 8.25 furlongs on the dirt.\u00a0 \u00a0She did find some success in 2019 by kicking things off with a win in a local bred race at 7.5 furlongs on the turf.\u00a0 But success came to an end in her last start finishing\u00a0 off the board 6th.\u00a0 \u00a0She takes a tremendous drop in class, surrendering the allowance group she has been racing within for a lowend claiming race, a change that may reap rewards.<\/p>\n
7.\u00a0 DIRECTOR LOOMS\u00a0 7\/1-two wins came out of eight starts last year, one in a dirt cheap claimer and the other in a starter allowance.\u00a0 \u00a0She raced in allowance races for the back end of 2018, which began after her starter allowance eligibility expired.\u00a0 \u00a0She dropped into a $5,000 claimer at the start of the 2019 season and running 8.25 route for the first time in a long time.\u00a0 She finished a disappointing fourth well off the winner.\u00a0 \u00a0She returned to starter allowance in her last start and was fifth racing in a sprint.\u00a0 The mile distance is concerning me after her poor recenting outing.<\/p>\n
8.\u00a0 RED ROCK VAPOR\u00a0 5\/1-the 2018 season was shakey for this lady who started with a third place finish in a starter allowance before chilling off in a series of allowance and high level claiming races.\u00a0 Things seemed to start firming up at the end of 2018 when she raced in a $4,000 claimer and finished second.\u00a0 She concluded 2018 with an easy win in a small starter allowance field.\u00a0 She shuffled up to the $10,000 claimer in her 2019 debut and finished off the board.\u00a0 \u00a0She drops a couple of wrungs and will try the route, a distance she infrequently goes.\u00a0 She’ll be pressing things on the front end but may not be able to hold on when the field hits the stretch.<\/p>\n

Kingston Juana looks the best here to me and knows how to win and is consistant in hitting the board, gains top pick.<\/p>\n
Noble Family has early speed and I think she may just have something left to get a top three finish, I’m going with the second spot.<\/p>\n
Ring to Collect takes the biggest class drop in the field.\u00a0 I’m not sold that it will work, but I’ll give the benefit of the doubt and use in the trifecta.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
