The weather should be beautiful here at Delaware Park this weekend, which also features a Grade 1 turf sprint for fillies and mares.
The tepid co-favorites, at 4/1 (which gives you some idea how well-matched this group is), are monica’s Kidkat and jonsnow2’s Spaztown and fairfax’s Master of the Yard. Kidkat, a tall, lanky colt reminiscent of his sire, Lemon Drop Kid, has won one of three starts. After winning his debut, the dark bay colt made a nice move in a 5 ½ furlong allowance, then seemed to flatten out in a 6 panel allowance, but did earn an 80 SF in the process. It turns out that he bled in that race, and with first-time lasix, his connections hope to make amends, wheeling him back on four weeks’ rest. Delaware regulars are quite familiar with Spaztown, who has made both of his starts at this track. The chocolate-hued son of sim freshman sire Speightstown gamely won his debut from off the pace with a 79 SF, then returned with a close second in an allowance, this time with an 84 SF. With his style, regular jock Silver will have to hustle him along to get the colt to the wire on time, and I’d like his chances better with an extra furlong. That said, his kick has enough oomph that he may get the job done even at six panels, and a favorable pace scenario appears to be brewing. Master of the Yard is a very attractive colt, well dappled out, with lots of white markings. He was easy to spot in his debut, an unpressured victory down in Florida, where he earned a 77 SF. The son of Gone West appears ready to take another step forward this weekend, which puts him squarely among the top competitors.
Next on the morning line is tullbrink2’s Tull’s Beast. Mrs. Tull was a pretty nice bargain bred a few years back, and has proven to be an even nicer broodmare. Her first foal is Tull’s Chaparral, by High Chaparral, who was a very precocious youngster, winning a stakes in his third start before his peers caught up to him in ability. Foal number two is this golden-hued son of Best of the Bests. While big brother was a stakes winner on the lawn, this guy has yet to try that surface, but has been fairly handy on the main trick, with a 6-1-2-1 record. The jockeys have trouble restraining the Beast early, and Swann will have his hands full early. Even while tiring, the colt has put up several speed figures in the 80s, including a stakes second last time out. A little less energy early would help his chances tremendously. The other concern is the three weeks’ turnaround, which may be just a touch quick. At 7/1 are leo3’s Barb’s Liesure, wemblem’s Teutonic Terror, and head2head’s Droogle. Barb’s Liesure looked awfully good in his debut, a gate to wire tour de force in Maine, resulting in an 83 SF. The four week turnaround may not be quite enough time to prevent a bounce, but the seal brown son of Tomahawk, out of a Danehill mare, has shown a great deal of talent in his only start, so it’s hard not to like him. Teutonic Terror has won one of three starts, but the fleet son of champion juvenile Gilded Time has shown a great deal of speed in those races. The colt broke his maiden at this distance in Dubai, winning wire-to-wire with an 82 SF before getting bumped around on Smackdown day, where he led the first half mile before tiring and fading badly to 10th. I do like the cutback to six panels, and he gets an upgrade in the jockey department. Could redeem himself here, although the Terror should get pressured again early. Droogle’s pedigree seems more turf-oriented to me, as he is a son of Cozzene, but the gun-metal grey colt debuted on the main track, where he justified his connections’ faith by winning that race with a 73 SF. That time isn’t quite as quick as some of the figures posted by others in this race, and the three week turnaround causes some concern, but he’s eligible to take another step forward, and his backers get a decent price.
Rounding out the field, at least as far as the oddsmaker is concerned, are: hurons4 Wild Zen, who gets hammered for not having the most commercial pedigree (Sarava x Zen), even though the colt won his only start with a 72 SF, and others with similar credentials are going off at 7/1 rather than 31/1 – could post a mild surprise at a generous price; cjt2’s Give It A Flogging, who looks to get caught up in an early speed duel, and while he has flashed speed, he’s yet to take the next step in terms of speed figures, and improve into the 80s; jakematt1’s Barb’s Rock, a bay son of Rock Slide, who while typically coming from off the pace, has not been effective at distances longer than five furlongs so far, and who’s speed figures in five starts have not been better than a 75 SF, slower than most of his competitors. Good luck to all the competitors!

[2

post-483","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-previews
["GET
