A small field contends for the $150,000 prize and the prestige of a graded win.
The evens favourite is Spartiate (ENG) (Pivotal x Dubai Millennium x Caerleon), a chestnut colt with plenty of Northern Dancer blood in his pedigree. Running for daninja’s wicked stable, he finished second in Maiden Special Weight company over six furlongs on his debut, of which the winner’s form on that day has looked like a flash in the pan so far. However, Spartiate’s encouraging speed figure of 73 was thought good enough to give him a try at Stakes level over the same distance next time out, when his connections were rewarded with a win and a speed figure of 76. Drawn in the number one spot, he has the course’s top jockey A. Craig to assist.
Second favourite at 5/2 is Takapaper (PA) (Song of The Sword x Danehill x A.P. Indy), who is trained at mano’s oxymoron stable and is ridden here by J. Bradley, currently second in the Newmarket jockeys’ table. The only member of this field to have a ranking, he has won his two races to date, both of which were over six furlongs on turf in Japan. In the first, a Maiden Special Weight, he ran a speed figure of 66, then improved to take an Allowance race sponsored by his owner with a speed figure of 74.
Agareni Empire (KY) (Empire Maker x Pine Bluff x Kaldoun(FR) has run in three previous races. After finishing fourth on his debut in a Maiden Special Weight race over six furlongs on turf, he was switched to the dirt to gain his first win in a similar event. Next he was tried over a mile in an Allowance race for non-winners of two and recorded a speed figure of 75 to finish a closing second, suggesting that today’s trip may in on the short side for him. T. Wasko take the ride for jumpmoose’s orignal stable.
The outside draw goes to Trippa (VEN) (Ershaad x Sadler’s Wells x Pacific Native), who is trained in the graywolf21 stable and has R. T. Salo aboard. He is the most experienced of this field, having run in six previous races. All these have been on the turf, apart from one disappointing effort on the dirt track. He won at the fourth time of asking at Maiden Special Weight level when stretched out to a mile, recording a speed figure of 75, his best to date. Since then, he has run in two more races over a mile, finishing third in an Allowance race for non-winners of two, then only eighth of eleven in a Grade Three race.
The outsider of the field is Limehigh (KY) (Limehouse x High Yield x Coastal), who runs for the jdawg11 stable, part of bigeasy’s new orleans inc. conglomerate. He has run in five previous races, winning at the second time of asking in a Maiden Special Weight race over five furlongs on dirt. After a disappointing effort in a Stakes race over six furlongs next time out, he was switched to turf for a Grade Three event over five furlongs, when the going was good and he finished four lengths away in sixth after leading in the early stages. In his latest race, an Allowance over six furlongs for non-winners of two, he managed to hold onto the lead until the closing stages and was beaten a quarter of a length in second, recording his best speed figure to date of 72. T. Cooper takes the ride.

[2

post-4654","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-previews
["GET
