Saturday afternoon should provide sunny skies and a fast track for a talented field led by Holy Moly Bulb and unbeaten Nadera. The winner here could very well be the favorite for the Breeders’ Bowl Juvenile Filly in just over two months’ time.

Pieterszoon (7/1) takes the rail. She hopes to meet a better end than her literary namesake as she makes a return to trip to the track where she finished second at the Grade II Sorgento in early August. The horse that beat her by a length that day, Winter is Boss, is not in this field. Has only finished out of the money once in eight starts with three wins.

Next to her is Being Smart T (11/1), who is travelling outside of her home state of New York for the first time. It’s always hard to pick horses who have only competed against local breds but she did record an impressive victory against three colts last time out.

Lean Groom T (9/1) starts in post number three. She has yet to post a speed figure breaking 80 in three starts but came close last time in a third-place listed stakes finish. Daughter of Maclean’s Music by Streaking Ted, a mare who recorded a stakes win in just her third start of an otherwise unremarkable career.

Mo’ Gretel (16/1) continues to move up in class in spite of the long odds laid against her each week. She has finished top-three in all four starts while never facing shorter odds than 11/1. Adding a “GP” sticker next to her name can’t be out of the question.

Adelaides Oval (9/1) is one of three unbeaten fillies in this race but arrives with a bit less fanfare than Nadera. Two Grade III victories under her belt coming in pretty different styles indicate the talent is there for a win on Saturday.

Pennsylvania-bred Kaizer Niner (46/1) is just happy to make up the field. She has won an allowance race back in March in addition to her maiden start but an 11th place finish in the Grade III Arizona Shoot-Out Special indicates that the top-end talent isn’t quite there.

Z Ready (9/1) is another decent shout to place or show. Just one win out of five, oddly enough in a listed stakes against an open field, but her other results indicate that she likes to start just off the front and can hang there. May not quite have the mentality to put others away though.

Deep Rookie (10/1) is an interesting unknown. Unbeaten in just two starts, her last race coming back in early June. Her connections are clearly banking on the added rest to provide another surprise on Saturday.

Next is Letitsing (9/1), making a big step up from the allowance circuit all the way to Grade I. She boasts an impressive bloodline (REDOUTE’S CHOICE x UNBRIDLED’S SONG x DEPUTY MINISTER). The French filly is one of four starters from outside the United States.

Fallan Again (15/1) is a maiden, but that hasn’t stopped owner millview11 from pitting her against top horses before. Best finish came in her first race, finishing second in the Molik Dirt Juvenile Fillies, followed by two also-rans in Grade III starts. I’m not sure there is much reason to believe this race will be any different.

The Bone Projecter (27/1) has had a decent string of four starts without a strong speed number to show for them. Third in the Snoopy Dirt Juvenile Fillies back in April, can the long layoff give her a chance to surprise some people?

Unbeaten and relatively untested, Nadera (5/1) is my pick for the win. Three-for-three, winning by more than a length each time including in the Grade II Stoker Handicap last time out, it is really hard to look past this daughter of Nyquist.

Den and Ron (19/1) looks to match her mother, 2012 Dell Computer Debutante winner Ron the Beast. That year didn’t augur well for whoever takes to the winner’s circle on Saturday, however, as she finished 13th at the Breeder’s Bowl in the following start.

Holy Moly Bulb (9/2) also has an impressive dam to live up to. Holy Bulb won the Grade I Equinics – SIM Sponsors going a mile in 2014. Her daughter by Uncle Mo takes to the gate after finishing second in the Grade II Hoserhead Juvenile Fillies. Holy Moly Bulb has gone faster than anybody in this race before and will start as the slight bettor’s favorite.

Prediction:

Nadera

Adelaides Oval

Holy Moly Bulb

California (CA) – Saturday, September 1, 2018 — 3:00:00 PM EST Dell Computer Debutante – 7 Furlongs on Dirt Grade I —

[2

post-46533","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-previews
["GET
