<\/a><\/p>\nIn any case, back to the horse…he’s been busy this year, as this will be start number nine. He’s an ungraded stakes winner, and has finished in the money in 3 out of his 4 stakes starts, including a second last time out at Newmarket in the Group II July Stakes. That last race was a big step up, and that should prepare him for what will be a tough fight in this race.<\/p>\n
(4) PIRATES HURRICANE (owner treasurebay, 6\/1) is also coming out of the July Stakes at Newmarket, where he stayed just off the pace for pretty much the entire race, finishing fourth three lengths back. Before that race, he had a three-race winning streak, including an ungraded stakes win in Paris back in June. I like this pedigree – he is a son of Frankel, with Caerleon and Dynaformer also in the bloodline of this scratch-bred. He is definitely bred for distance, and his inability to close last time out makes me wonder if he can win a race of this caliber at this distance. He is the favorite in here – I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he runs well, but I’m going to take a stand against from a handicapping perspective.<\/p>\n
(5) CHOOSE YOUR DREAM (owner acote3, 8\/1) has won three in a row coming into this race, all at the 6-furlong distance. His first two wins were against French-bred horses, but he took a big step up to that last race, the Group II Coventry Steaks. He responded in a big way, winning that race at 9\/1. The pedigree of this colt seems to fit this race well, as his father Redoute’s Choice won some of his biggest races in Australia between 6-7 furlongs. Horses with Oasis Dream as the dam-sire have also succeeded in turf sprints as well. He’s looking to make it four wins in a row, and I like his chances to do it.<\/p>\n
(6) INVINCIBLE IRISH (owner irishflyer, 8\/1) is the first of two fillies in this race. She has rattled off four wins in a row coming into this race, including two ungraded stakes races and the Group II Cherry Hilton last time out at Newmarket. That was her first race in Europe after starting her career in the States. A son of I Am Invincible, the Australian-bred seems bred to run a distance like this. The dam-sire Exceed and Excel also seems to favor sprinting as well, so I think she’ll take to this distance like she did in the last race. Despite this being her first adventure against the boys, I like her chances to be involved.<\/p>\n
(7) NO WHY NO (owner graywolf12, 20\/1) is a rare Mississippi-bred that has reached stakes level company, and is actually the only one in the field who has raced in a Group I race, that being her last start in the Wet Bikini Stakes in South Africa a couple of weeks ago. That race was at one mile, and she never fired in that race, finishing a well-beaten twelfth. She has not won since her debut in February, but has found some success in stakes races before that, including a fourth-place effort in the Group II Cherry Hilton, which is the race that INVINCIBLE IRISH won. She’s had a nice start to her career, but given her last race results against fillies, I can’t see her being a big factor here.<\/p>\n
(8) PICTURECRAFT (owner skypasture, 7\/1) has been quite the world traveler so far, bouncing from Australia to England to South Africa. He returns to the British Isles again, facing graded stakes competition for the first time. He won the first two races of his career, and then finished a close second in an ungraded stakes back in June. The winner from that race, BABS GABBA GOL, just came back to finish a solid third in a Group II race this past weekend, so that bodes well for this colt in this spot. This is probably a little tougher than that race was, but I still like his chances to be competitive this weekend.<\/p>\n
(9) OR ITS FREE (owner adeeprock9, 10\/1) feels perhaps the most at home of the horses in this field, as he has been stationed here in Ireland since the spring months. In his two races here, he has a second in a NW2L allowance race and a sixth-place finish last time out in the Group III Railaway, although he only finished two back. The horse that finished second in that race is ranked #1 in the 2-year-old male sprint division. He is out of mare CALL ME BOBBIE, who despite her lackluster race record has produced some horses that were competitive in stakes competition. That being said, none of them were really competitive at this level. This horse is a tough one – I’m not inclined to think he’ll finish in the money, but that last start argues that it’s possible.<\/p>\n
(10) DECADE OF DROUGHT (owner kingajay, 28\/1) got off to a roaring start in the winter, notching two quick victories against maiden and allowance company. He has not been nearly as successful since moving up to stakes company in his past three starts. He has finished in the bottom half of the field in each race, with SP numbers well below what it’s going to take to be successful in this race. He is by the Group I-winning Australian turf sprinter Extreme Choice, which is definitely a check in the positive column, but he is going to take a huge step forward here to hit the board in this race.<\/p>\n
(11) FUTHARK (owner dkyoung, 8\/1) started like many others in here, with two wins. One of those came in an ungraded stakes event back in April. He was not able to take that next step forward, though, as he went over to England and finished eighth in the Group II Coventry Steaks. He is by the Australian colt Written Tycoon, who has been a surprisingly good stallion so far. He won a Group II race when he was two, so there is precendant with the bloodline for some early success. That last race was certainly a disappointment, but this could be one of those horses that takes a sizable step forward and makes a run for the money.<\/p>\n
(12) LAWBOLT (owner chillingfarms3, 13\/1) is the second horse in this field by the Japanese sire Orfevre, and is the lone gelding in the race. He has been steadily improving through his first three races, winning his debut and then following that up with a second and a victory in ungraded stakes races. That last race doesn’t look all that strong on paper, but he did race against SEINFIELD two back, finishing just behind him. That signals to me that if he takes another step forward, he could make some noise in this race at a nice price. This will be a far tougher race than he’s seen so far, though.<\/p>\n
(13) GLENN FALLS (owner adeeprock1, 11\/1) will be making just the second start of his career in this race, going straight from his maiden victory in a NW1x allowance race to a Group I race. That race was in the U.S. about a month and a half ago, and he only was victorious in a field of four, one of which was a CPU-owned horse. He has a nice pedigree, by the Irish-based Gleneagles, with Pivotal being the dam-sire. He could certainly be sitting a big effort here since his maiden score was so easy, but this is a massive jump in class, so I would like to see another race.<\/p>\n
(14) TIZ SLADES (owner deeprock23, 19\/1) is another Irish-bred to round out the field, this one at a nice price. He has run four races so far, winning two of them. Ironically enough, the two losses on his resum\u00e9 both came here in Ireland, including a disappointing ninth-place effort last time out in the Group III Railaway. His two races before that were solid early-season wins in allowance races, although his races have not been strong enough to argue he’ll be able to compete with the top horses in this field. As with all of these two-year-olds, you never know when they’ll take a big jump forward and improve significantly, but I’m not convinced he’ll be able to pull it off.<\/p>\n

(8) PICTURECRAFT, 7\/1 – The horse he lost to last time out went on to be competitive in a Group II race, so he may be able to handle the step up.<\/p>\n
