Challenge-Week 16

Heading into this week, I had four horses training and planned to enter. As things turned out, only three were entered. The fourth will be running this week as there was only on race it was eligible for and I did not like the conditions. So he’s entered this week and there look to be three others that I will be looking to be entered.

BAB’S SEEKING LUCK has been with the stable since The Challenge started and has hit the board in four of five starts over this duration. He’s been posting his career best speeds in the upper 90’s and this week he smashed through the 100 level with a 104 that came in an 8.25 furlong, $2,500 claiming race. In his normal style, he slowly left the gate and took to the rear of the field. After half a mile, he was a dozen lengths behind before he came to life. He had a solid kick coming into the stretch and fired to the front to win by a nice 2 lengths at 6/1 odds. The eight horse field gave him an extra bonus with the win in picking 3 sire cards which flipped into a pair of G-cards and one F-card. Even better was the 22 BP’s he brought home. So far, this guy has earned 66 BP’s this year.

GENERAL’S STAR was a let down this week. He made his fifth start for the stable and ran in a $7,500 claiming race at a distance of 9.5 furlongs. He ran 10th for a majority of the race and finished sixth and lost ground in the process. He lost by 15 lengths and only got sixth as other horses tired worse than he did. I’ll be sending this one to the auction as I feel the best of times have gone by. The last race was disappointing and could be that I had him on dirt where he does a bit better on the turf. He raced 5 times for the stable with a win that did come on the dirt. He finished second and had a pair of fourths on the turf. 32 BP’s were earned by him during his stay. As he departs, he leaves a G-card behind.

The late running HALF LOCO made his third start for the stable and has had an incredible career with 26 races ITM in 30 starts, which includes 11 wins. Unfortunately, he did not get the win this week in the 11f, $30,000 starter allowance race. In the small five horse field, he got away fourth and fell 10 back by the halve. He got moving rather slowly, which seems to be his forte, as he only cut the deficit to 9 by the third call. Then he took off but was unable to catch the favorite who wired the field. Half Loco finished second some three strides behind the winner with a 95 speed and was the second betting choice in the field. 20 BP’s were nice to receive and it came with the ever-common G-card.

So the week ends with 4-G cards and an F-card which will be added to the one E-card I currently possess. 42 BP’s obtained this week have pushed the tally to 400 BP’s.

With General’s Star now awaiting sale in the auction, I have transferred KAT COME BACK from the farm to the stable. Kat is a turf runner who has won 12 of 29 starts and has been ITM 20 times. He was claimed in a $10,000 claiming race, and is one of the highest prices I’ve paid for a claimer and this was his only lifetime appearance in a claiming race. I’ll probably be looking for a starter allowance event that he’s now eligible for in a couple of weeks.

Heading into this week, I had four horses
