This is an interview between MrLucky of OTR (Ohio Thoroughbred <\/FONT><\/PRE>
Racing Residency) and myself.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>The purpose of this interview is <\/FONT><\/PRE>
to gain some insight on what a residency is, what there is to <\/FONT><\/PRE>
gain from membership, how it works, and what you can expect.\u00a0 <\/SPAN><\/FONT><\/PRE>
<\/SPAN>This interview is to also spotlight the OTR and its members.\u00a0 <\/SPAN><\/FONT><\/PRE>
<\/SPAN>The residency consists of 15 or so members and over 250 stables.\u00a0 <\/SPAN><\/FONT><\/PRE>

First off I want to thank you, MrLucky, for taking the time to <\/FONT><\/B><\/PRE>
answer some questions and filling us, the people of the sim, in <\/FONT><\/B><\/PRE>
on some of the aspects of joining and running a residency.<\/FONT><\/B><\/PRE>
\u00a0<\/FONT><\/o:p><\/PRE>
Lets start with what is it about this game that made you stick with <\/FONT><\/B><\/PRE>
it and then decide to start a residency of your own?<\/o:p><\/FONT><\/B><\/PRE>
\u00a0<\/FONT><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
I love the breeding aspect of this game, always trying to breed that <\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
Grade 1 winner.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>I was in a residency before I started the OTR, and <\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
I wanted to do things that other residencies didn’t do, give out <\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
credits like a maniac (I think I have successfully done that).\u00a0 <\/SPAN><\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
\u00a0<\/FONT><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
So why the <\/B>Ohio<\/B><\/st1:place><\/st1:State> Thoroughbred Racing name?<\/o:p><\/B><\/FONT><\/PRE>
\u00a0<\/FONT><\/o:p><\/PRE>
I’m from <\/SPAN>Ohio<\/SPAN><\/st1:place><\/st1:State> and wanted to represent my state.<\/SPAN>\u00a0 <\/SPAN>GO BUCKS!<\/SPAN><\/FONT><\/PRE>
\u00a0<\/FONT><\/o:p><\/PRE>
From the beginning what are some of the things that you did to get it<\/FONT><\/B><\/PRE>
 started?\u00a0 <\/SPAN>How did you get people to initially join?<\/o:p><\/FONT><\/B><\/PRE>
\u00a0<\/FONT><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
I got people to join by giving away a 2 year old to every resident <\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
that joined.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>It worked great, as within a week, I think I had 6 <\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
residents and about 100 stables.\u00a0 <\/SPAN><\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
\u00a0<\/FONT><\/o:p><\/PRE>
Now that is a great start to a thriving residency! What things do you <\/FONT><\/B><\/PRE>
do to keep the members here and interested?<\/o:p><\/FONT><\/B><\/PRE>
\u00a0<\/FONT><\/o:p><\/PRE>
I am always trying to run different contests, as that is what residents <\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
are wanting.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Everyone wants a chance to win, as that is why I give out <\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
credits to the top 5 places on the quarterly contest.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>I have started <\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
a pick 3 trifecta which gives out 250+ credits if the correct  <\/FONT><\/SPAN>combination <\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
is picked.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>I run claimer contests as well as having a <\/FONT><\/SPAN>monthly sponsored<\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
2 year old stakes race. In addition, I encourage the residents to create<\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
their own contests and\/or manage their own ideas.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Sometimes they need <\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
a little tweaking but in the end everyone really seems to enjoy <\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
themselves and they love getting involved.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Anytime you can add another <\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
dimension to the game other than individual horse races it really adds <\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
flavor and spices it up to keep folks interested and coming back. \u00a0<\/SPAN>This <\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
is not only for the residency but for the overall health of the game as <\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
well.<\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
\u00a0<\/FONT><\/o:p><\/PRE>
You obviously love what you are doing. How important do you feel it is <\/FONT><\/B><\/PRE>
to join a residency?\u00a0 <\/SPAN>How much does it add to the experience of the game?<\/o:p><\/FONT><\/B><\/PRE>
\u00a0<\/FONT><\/o:p><\/PRE>
I have truly found out so much from joining residencies. In the beginning <\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
you can learn so much from the veteran members.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>You get to discuss things <\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
outside the game. \u00a0<\/SPAN>You find out what other people think about breeding <\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
tips. How often to run horses and most importantly, you can win credits <\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
so you can buy that Grade 1 champion.<\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
\u00a0<\/FONT><\/o:p><\/PRE>
\u00a0<\/FONT><\/o:p><\/PRE>
Tell us a little something that only someone running a residency would <\/FONT><\/B><\/PRE>
know about the game?\u00a0 <\/SPAN><\/o:p><\/FONT><\/B><\/PRE>
\u00a0<\/FONT><\/o:p><\/PRE>
It takes a lot of work. I probably spend a good 5-8 hours a week working <\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
on the residency.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>I do it because I enjoy it and I know others enjoy <\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
it as well.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>It is not so hard of work when you know you are appreciated.<\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
\u00a0<\/FONT><\/o:p><\/PRE>
\u00a0<\/FONT><\/o:p><\/PRE>
Is the OTR and yourself currently accepting new members to the <\/B>Ohio<\/B><\/st1:place><\/st1:State> <\/B><\/FONT><\/PRE>
Thoroughbred Racing Residency?<\/o:p><\/B><\/FONT><\/PRE>
\u00a0<\/FONT><\/o:p><\/PRE>
I am always accepting new members, the more members, the more credits <\/SPAN><\/FONT><\/PRE>
I can give out to the members<\/SPAN>.<\/FONT><\/PRE>
\u00a0<\/FONT><\/o:p><\/PRE>
Is that then how it works?\u00a0 <\/SPAN>You get credits from the game to distribute <\/FONT><\/B><\/PRE>
to the members of the residency?\u00a0 <\/SPAN>So the more the merrier is the phrase <\/FONT><\/B><\/PRE>
for the day!<\/o:p><\/FONT><\/B><\/PRE>
\u00a0<\/FONT><\/o:p><\/B><\/PRE>
Absolutely! I really enjoy passing out the credits.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>At any given time <\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
we could have as many as four or five detailed contests running not <\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
including the standard weekly ones.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>The more the merrier is a wonderful <\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
phrase.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>I should consider using that as our official logo.<\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
\u00a0<\/FONT><\/o:p><\/PRE>
\u00a0<\/FONT><\/o:p><\/PRE>
How would someone go about joining or learning more about OTR residency?<\/o:p><\/FONT><\/B><\/PRE>

You spoke earlier about detailed and creative contests. Give an example <\/FONT><\/B><\/PRE>
of a unique contest you have run at the OTR residency?<\/o:p><\/FONT><\/B><\/PRE>
\u00a0<\/FONT><\/o:p><\/PRE>
I think the best contest that I have run here at <\/SPAN>OHIO<\/SPAN><\/st1:place><\/st1:State> was a 10 week <\/SPAN><\/FONT><\/PRE>
contest.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Each resident got to pick 2 of their horses to gain points. <\/SPAN><\/FONT><\/PRE>
This contest is going to run 10 weeks so anyone can win.<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/FONT><\/PRE>
\u00a0<\/FONT><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
You get points for how they produce and at what level.<\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
\u00a0<\/FONT><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
Maidens\/Claimer, MSW – 1 pt for every horse you beat<\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
Starters – 1.5 pts for every horse you beat<\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
Allowance – 2 pts for every horse you beat<\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
Stakes – 3 pts for every horse you beat<\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
Graded – 5 pts for every horse you beat<\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
\u00a0<\/FONT><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
I also give out credits each week with allowance and stakes winners:<\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
\u00a0<\/FONT><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
Grade 1 = 500 credits<\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
Grade 2 or 3 = 100 credits<\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
Stakes = 50 credits<\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
Allowance = 10 credits<\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
\u00a0<\/FONT><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
There are many others.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>But if you want in on the excitement, by all <\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
means, come and pay us a visit.<\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
\u00a0<\/FONT><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
\u00a0<\/FONT><\/o:p><\/B><\/PRE>
For those of us that pay attention to these things, we noticed OTR<\/o:p><\/FONT><\/B><\/PRE>
moving up the ranks of recently.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>What do you contribute to that success?<\/o:p><\/FONT><\/B><\/PRE>
\u00a0<\/FONT><\/o:p><\/PRE>
It’s all about the members. Honestly, we are gaining more BP’s each week <\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
and keep adding new residents.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>It is exciting watching this residency <\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
not only grow, but because of the interest and the folks working <\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
together, not only has the residency been more successful we are seeing <\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
a lot more individual success.<\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
\u00a0<\/FONT><\/o:p><\/PRE>
Is running the residency more like work or more like fun?<\/o:p><\/FONT><\/B><\/PRE>
\u00a0<\/FONT><\/o:p><\/PRE>
It’s work, but I enjoy the work. As I mentioned earlier I put in about <\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
5-8 hours a week from working on the standings to getting more <\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
information on what contests I can run.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>I’m always taking suggestions <\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
from the residents, as they are the ones that want to enjoy themselves.\u00a0 <\/SPAN><\/o:p><\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/PRE>
\u00a0<\/FONT><\/o:p><\/PRE>
