However this years offering of the \u201cBluer Then Velvet Special\u201d Stake, a ( 5 \u00bd ) furlong event, contested over the firm Minnesota turf course is shaping up to be arguably one of the most contentious events of the 2 year old filly season.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Trainer Bigsky5\u2019s MONTANA PRIZE<\/SPAN><\/B> has been installed as the Luke-warm 8\/5 favorite over trainer Dilaika\u2019s ELPHABA <\/SPAN><\/B>\u00a0<\/SPAN>2\/1, with Tejanoroy\u2019s SEATTLE PEACE <\/SPAN><\/B>and<\/SPAN> <\/SPAN>Thedude\u2019s <\/SPAN>HIGH CLASS GIRL <\/SPAN><\/B>\u00a0<\/SPAN><\/SPAN>, both listed at 5\/2. The odds say it all, on the surface, there is really very little separating the four contenders. Let\u2019s dig a bit deeper \u2026<\/P>

Overview: Nicely bred filly has Storm Cat, Mr. Prospector and Northern Dancer connections, so Montana Prize may take to the turf on 1st<\/SUP> asking, however a Stake field with this caliber of foes is a tough nut to crack. \u00a0<\/SPAN>Her initial dirt speed ratings were very impressive, but they didn\u2019t allow her to score in Stakes company on her 1st<\/SUP> dirt effort, while she no doubt has a \u201cbright\u201d future and certainly belongs in this level of company on the dirt.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>I\u2019m sure how well Montana Prize competes Saturday will determine where Bigsky5 will place in the future.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Prediction\u00a0 <\/SPAN>( 4th )<\/B><\/P>

Overview: Although she\u2019s winless on the turf, this daughter of Ecton<\/st1:PlaceName> Park<\/st1:PlaceType><\/st1:place> has acquitted herself well against some pretty \u201ctough\u201d company, and even though she hasn\u2019t put up Stake-winning speed figs yet, she has a good chance to move forward here. Has some early speed and could very well grab\u00a0an uncontested\u00a0lead and not look back. Seattle Peace broke her maiden vs. non-conditioned allowance company and has a pretty distinct class edge here.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Prediction\u00a0 <\/SPAN>( 1st )<\/B><\/P>

Overview: Has a good stretch kick, her stake placing was in a short field of four, but one that she beat was Stake-placed so you have to respect her chances here, also that was High Class Girl\u2019s first try on the grass, so she is likely to move forward off that race. High Class Girl is well bred for the turf \u2026 High Yield x Miesque\u2019s Son \u2026 I think that High Class Girl would like a bit more distance and will rally here for a short slice.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Prediction\u00a0 <\/SPAN>( 3rd )<\/B><\/P>

Overview: This nicely bred daughter of Storm Boot is ( 3 ) for ( 3 ) on the turf, she loves to \u201cfly\u201d in the stretch. Elphaba has never been headed in the stretch, passing all ( 8 ) horses she has trailed in the final furlong. Elphaba is taking on Stakes competition for the first time but I certainly think she can handle it. Trainer Dilaika has her well rested and I have a feeling that Elphaba will make the contest very interesting at the wire. Prediction\u00a0 <\/SPAN>( 2nd<\/SUP> )<\/o:p><\/B><\/P>

Race Preview:<\/B> It\u2019s going to be extremely interesting to see which, if any, of the ( 3 ) closers in this field tries to challenge Seattle Prize early, if they don\u2019t they will be very hard pressed to catch her in this short of a race. I expect to see both Elphaba and High Class Girl flying late, if neither sacrifices themselves chasing Seattle Prize early. Montana Prize is the \u201cwild\u201d card, maybe Bigsky5 will abandon her usual dirt style and gun her early as she\u2019s certainly not short on stamina! My guess is that Seattle Prize\u2019s speed and class will prevail, but I won\u2019t be surprised if it\u2019s real close at the wire!<\/P>
