The 5yo Red Ransom mare more than tripled her lifetime earnings by winning the million-dollar race by a half-length. She’s the first mare to win this race in it’s eight year history. Her final time of 2:01.2 was one second off the stakes record.

The prerace chatter was all about the good-looking 4yo colt Ermington Pegusus. The last time he was in California, for the G1 California Handicap in March, he wowed the crowds with a record-setting performance. His return saw several top handicap horses bypass the race to avoid another loss to the big guy, leaving the field wide open for some unlikely entrants. We don’t normally see 3yos take on the older horses in the really big races, but three of the 10 entrants represented the younger crew. The ladies don’t often take on the boys in big races, but two of the 10 represented the distaff division. The eclectic mix of runners left bettors slightly confused as to who to support. The knew they liked Ermington Pegusus, installing him at even odds, but after that they had a hard time separating the contenders. Eventual winner Intenttodistribute was overlooked by many bettors, who settled on 12-1 for her.

When the gates opened, Intenttodistribute took her customary position in front. Formulated Risk settled in a few lengths back, with King of the Wind right beside him Rude Boss chased hard early but tired and faded. Ermington Pegusus took a leisurely attitude, settling in midpack. Shaft Dixie tucked in just behind ErPeg and started his move at the same time, but couldn’t sustain it. 3yos King Of All Media, I’ll Pay For It, and Am I Really Bad dropped to the back early and never really challenged, though King of All Media did briefly look to make a move turning for home. Secret Agent Dude broke well but took a wrong step and was pulled up.

Intenttodistribute had opened a lead of more than five lengths going down the backstretch. The margin narrowed as King Of The Wind switched leads at the turn, but it was all Ermington Pegusus rolling down the stretch. He made his trademark furious run toward the wire, but Intenttodistribute dug in and held her lead. The mare went under the wire in front by a half-length. The performance earned her a 106SP.

Intenttodistribute, trained by Lordpye2, maintains her perfect record at 10f. The double points she earned for taking on the boys moves her up to #8 in the distaff dirt classic division.

[3

post-4456","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-reviews
["GET
