The Colorado State Police this morning issued a press release stating that the Stolen Snack Cake was taken by one of the equine residents of the track. The investigators have been scouring the track backside, looking for clues, and claim they are certain that the Snack Cake thief is entered in the feature race on Saturday, a 10 furlong stake for 3yo fillies. One officer, on condition of anonymity, stated “By this time tomorrow the thief will be locked up in the detention barn for a post-race snack-cake dope test.” Every filly entered in the race will earn a share of the $65k purse, which will help pay the thief’s legal fees.

Oddsmakers put the likelihood of The First Draw being charged with the theft at 4-1. Trainer Nihishfarms says his Tactical Cat filly has the smarts to organize a master theft, and she’s certainly fast enough to make a clean getaway. She’s got a lot of early speed, and loves to get out in front of the law and stay there. She’s making her first stakes try, however, and may not withstand the pressure from the local law.

The betting books have Ensyrke Song and Fiery Good Looks neck and neck at 3-1. Ensyrke Song’s trainer astinator2 claims the Unbridled’s Song filly has no skill at avoiding singing to the cops, but she’s fleet enough to run away, and if she’s not caught, she can’t be charged. She’s making just her second lifetime start, but when you debut with an easy front-running win at 8.5, a stake in a small field seems a good choice. She’s not used to running as fast as she’ll have to in order to avoid being collared, however.

Fiery Good Looks will try to use hers to talk her way out of a theft charge. The Cryptoclearance filly may not need to bat her lashes, however. With the First Draw and Ensyrke Song drawing the attention of the fuzz on the lead, Atl’s filly will have a great opportunity to settle back then sneak up on those two in the stretch. She’s a pretty good horse with two wins from eight starts.

The prime candidate for arraignment in this case, according to the morning line, is Australia’s Cat Five Cane. She’s one cool customer with a lot of experience in running from the law on her record. Indeed, she’s successfully stolen five of her 12 lifetime starts. The 3-5 odds might be misleading, as her sole stakes score was in a route. She likes to come from way behind, making a collar by the cops super-easy if she goes too slow. The best SPs of any of these fillies, and she’s got a topnotch jockey-cum-lawyer on her side.

An anonymous officer investigating the Case of the Stolen Snack Cake claimed that the thief will surprise racegoers tomorrow. He refused to say which of these fillies was the prime suspect, but when pressed he laughed, looked around, and then whispered that the Cat was in the bag. Then he told me to put $10 on the 4 to win.

[2

post-4453","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-previews
["GET
