Ever wanted to start a stable and know what you are doing well I have decided to start off a new series of articles to try and help the new players with the in\u2019s and out\u2019s of the game the way I play. These articles will explain the basics of the game. How to get your stable going and hopefully help you on the way to success as a good trainer. Ok first off I would like to state that I class myself as a good player without being great.
I have had 14 stakes wins between weeks 2443 and 3273 almost 2 years in the game without picking up a graded win. Now my first stakes win was in week 2853 so coming into the sim I had no idea what to do or how to play. I came here as a complete novice thinking I know racing. For those of you who do not know me I\u2019m an Australian and I was very much confused when it came to things like claiming races, speed figures different race restrictions such as starter allowance races etc.
Over the past 2 years I think I have learned quite a lot but I don\u2019t know everything. Part of my reason for writing all this down is because I can\u2019t find that big sim scoop I had last year with the Dice Dancer saga. The other main reason is that I see a lot of new players that come into the chat room and ask a lot of questions so hopefully I can start to answer them. Also I see a few players around the place that have been playing for a long time but still have not quite got the hang of the game yet perhaps this may help a few of those.
Now I have to say that I am one of the very grateful people who play this game for free, I have never put my hand in my pocket to play as I can\u2019t afford it even if I wanted to pay. This game is made great because you have the option to pay or not to pay, but it is much harder to not pay. If you don\u2019t want to spend the cash it becomes much harder to get into the position to win 20% or more of you races, but it can be done if you have the time and you put the effort in.
Ok the first thing you do when starting a set of stables is pick your horses. Now when I first started I had no idea what to look for. I did not know anything about speed figure\u2019s I did not know any of the American sires so like most people I let the sim do the picking for me. Now if you go into pick horses and read the instructions it says you can type in a name and all the horses with that horse in it\u2019s pedigree will come up. The first horse I wrote was Seattle Slew well it came up with nothing. If I do that now I get a list of about 25 horses of which 22 are at least 8yo. Where are all the Seattle Slews with other good sire\u2019s? Truth is if a horse is to well breed and it is not owned by anybody it is not in the horse pool. Part of starting out is starting out with a poor bunch of horses but if you follow my guide it may lead you may be able to get a couple of ok horses.
Now there is a rule in the sim that says you must have 20 starts before you can put your ordinary horses into the auction, but if you can find good horses you may not need to worry about this rule.
Ok this can be long and boring but you must do it if you are to start of with a good stable. Instead of typing in a full name like Seattle Slew what you should do is type in just 1 letter (E). When you do this it will bring up every single horse in the horse pool that has the letter e in the sire\u2019s, dam-sire\u2019s or dam dam-sire\u2019s name. Then you must go through the boring task at looking for all the horses that may be competitive in the lowest form of race claimers.
Now that we have our screen displaying every horse that has an e in it\u2019s name we need to look for a horse(s) with a speed figure high enough to be competitive. First rule I use is I don\u2019t look at any horse over the age of 7 because If the horse went on to be any good I would want a younger horse to get as much out of it as I can. Most horses are well past there prime by this stage. Also I will tell you to stay clear of unraced horses and very young horses that have done nothing to tell you if they are any good. What we need at the start is a proven horse that will earn us the real currency of the game BP\u2019s.
Now if the horse looks to be a sprinter (4.5f-7.5f) it needs to be able to run at least 85sp to be competitive. (8f-10f) need to run at least 82 (10f+) about 80 but these are not rules another thing to look at is the class of race the horse you are looking at has been running for example if a horse can run 85 in an unrestricted allowance it could probably run 95 in a cheap claimer (if you need to know more on race type\u2019s it will be in one of my upcoming article part 2 of Magoo2912\u2019s idiots guide to starting a stable). Also remember horses are programmed to run differently for different trainers, a horse that runs 85 for you may run 95 for me. If you can start with a half decent bunch of horses you may be able to start off the game with a decent win %. You won\u2019t always get every horse you wanted but that\u2019s part of the game. If you want to play the no money game you will need to open quite a few stables or you can beg on the sim message board for old stables that players may want to give away.
After about 48 hours you will get your stable of 5 horses with $25,000 and 50 BP\u2019s. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
