The Grade 1 – $750,000 Santa Marina Handicap has attracted a very talented and FAST field of 14 for the race restricted to Fillies and Mares that are 4 year old and older.\u00a0 They have come to race on the California DIRT over a distance of a Mile & 1 Sixteenth (8.5 Furlongs).\u00a0 Interestingly 13 of the entries are Kentucky Bred with the lone holdout being CABARETERA from Australia.\u00a0 The Field consists of 3 Fillies and 11 Mares.\u00a0 Other notes: TAPIT has sired 3 of the runners (INTERNET SENSATION, STACY BABY & SETTING STANDARDS) while both WAR FRONT (WAR EFFORT & WIDOW\u2019S WAR) and SMART STRIKE (RULER OF GALAXIES & ASTUTE TORNADO) have sired 2 starters each.\u00a0 Speaking of SPEED; 8 of these ladies have posted speed numbers of 115 or better.\u00a0 The Highest being 118 by both INTERNET SENSATION & ASTUTE TORNADO.\u00a0 The only entry to not post a speed at 110 or above is WHITE GHOST with a high of 108, while NIGHT STEP (115 high) has never posted a speed above 109 on a fast track.\u00a0 Now at look at the FIELD:<\/span><\/p>\n

Posted her career best speed of 114 in winning the Furry Burger Dirt Filly Mile in November, but had a disappointing fourth on New Year\u2019s Day in a 48k Allowance race.\u00a0 She had 2 wins in 8 starts during 2017.\u00a0 Has 1 previous G1 race- The VT is 4 Lovers; where she faded to finish tenth.\u00a0 Bonus gets second ride on her.<\/span><\/p>\n
