URC 2018 Equinics Diary

By durkastan

I silently stared out the window as I rode the midnight train from Silicon Valley to Pyeongchang for the 2018 Equinics. It’s been so long since I’ve seen anyone from the URC in person. A flood of memories came to me as I nervously stirred my Tanqueray & Tab, which as everyone knows is the official drink of our little club. How did we all meet anyway?

The first of us met when Metallinut was but a wee lad. If I remember correctly, his family mistakenly left him at home when they went on a trip to Paris. He was having a great time by himself, however at some point Qwikvett and Pboy tried to break into his house! Hilarity ensued as the young Nut foiled their every attempt to enter. At some point, Old Man Wahoo next door hit those boys with a shovel and they all had a good laugh. Then Metallinut was all:

""

A number of us met as kids actually. If I remember correctly, in his childhood Lbcstables used to run puppy races in a vacant lot near his house. He attracted the likes of Derekc, Denovo, and 3away and they were all having a great time until one of the puppies wandered into the yard of “the Beast” which is what they called Nepenthe back then for some reason. I think it was because of his eyebrows. Anyway, luckily they had Jms7777 with them as he was wearing his Derby Flyers and was able to rescue the puppy. Then Denovo was all:

""

And who could forget the story of how Kentuckiana Jones escaped the evil clutches of Newmarket with his young sidekick DunnRound and the famous nightclub singer Kimugle! I believe their plane crashed somewhere near Santa Anita. They found a series of hidden tunnels under the track, which were full of booby-traps! I don’t remember the rest of the story but I’m sure everything turned out okay. They even made up with Newmarket in the end! When DunnRound found out about the URC he was all:

""

Finally, I will always remember the time when I was released from Horse Prison (Dunnman told me racing the same horses every day was good for them). I was on my flight home when some inmates we were transporting, Dkyoung and Punter34, incited a riot and took over the plane! They really wanted to go to Belmont to catch the late pick 4. Mark and BillyBoy were piloting the plane and ended up having to pose as inmates for some reason. We never did make it to Belmont, as we had to crash land at Monmouth. But during the additional jail time we had to do at Horsitraz, we all became friends! When I thought we were going to Belmont, I was all:

""

But then when I realized we were in New Jersey I was all:

""

Man, those memories really brought me back. Hopefully URC will make some new ones in South Korea. May the horse be with you!
