I love watching the two year old fillies at this time of year. They are starting to weed out the also-rans and we are starting to get an idea of who is for real. There are several in that second category here and it should be a battle between several of these young ladies. The weatherman is calling for light rain so that could throw a wrench into the mixture as well. I\u2019m excited to watch them run so let\u2019s take a look:<\/font><\/p>\n

(BADGE OF SILVER x DANZIG x SEATTLE SLEW) Trainer Squity has definitely been bringing this beautiful cream colored filly along slowly. In her three races, she has jumped up about 10 SPF points each race and won the last two. This will be her first Stakes race but she sure looks ready. She had a sizzling 78 SPF last time out and with the magic hands of Wu holding the reins, this should be a tough team to beat. She loves the lead so the pole post should be an advantage as well. I would not be surprised at all to see the third win in a row for this filly. <\/p>\n

(ARAAFA (IRE) x ROCK OF GIBRALTAR (IRE) x DANZIG out of PLISH PLASH PLOSH) The good news is that this is one of only two in the race that has previously run on an off track. In her only race, she faded down the stretch after leading the entire race to finish second. It was a rather pedestrian 59 SPF and you have to wonder how much of that was due to the \u201cgood\u201d track. Trainer BestoBene4 is hoping that that race will bounce to a better finish here. They have Ledwith in the saddle and he has been rock solid this year and should be able to lead the young lady to a solid finish as well.<\/p>\n

(ENCOSTA DE LAGO (AUS) x GONE WEST x RED RANSOM) M-m-m-m-m, Black and Tan brings back some delicious memories. Hopefully this chestnut filly will make some of her own memories with her fine breeding. Trainer JakeMatt7 watched her stalk the leader throughout her only race to date and after a furious battle down the stretch, she gutted it out to win by a whisker. She had a solid 67 SPF that could bounce into a 70\u2019s SPF this time out which should certainly put her into the mix. She has Ventura in the irons and his experience will help her to contend once again. She should be on or near the lead at the end.<\/p>\n

( GREEN DESERT x AFLEET x RISEN STAR out of ROLL A NATURAL) One race and one win for this solidly bred chestnut filly. Trainer BeeAScout watched a strong close in her race to overtake the field and bring home the win with a solid if unspectacular 65 SPF. She looked very strong at the finish in that race and may have backed off a bit in the stretch after capturing the lead. She has jockey Nine in the saddle and he has been struggling a bit this year with only half of his usual win percentage. Hopefully he can snap out of that funk here.<\/p>\n

Last time out, she ran a really fast 71 SPF on a yielding track to win her second in a row in the ZIG MY MILL Stakes. Trainer Pisano2 has to believe that he has the horse to beat here with those credentials and I would have a hard time arguing against him. The only drawback is jockey McCartney who has been less than stellar this year and will need to pick it up to help out this youngster.<\/p>\n

( TALE OF THE CAT x NORTHERN TASTE x DO IT AGAIN DAN out of SECRET POISON) Trainer Joann found out last time that this chestnut filly prefers the grass over the clay when she jumped her SPF nearly 25 points and won her first turf race after struggling on the dirt her first time out. She still had a rather average 56 SPF in the win in a short field but led the race from wire to wire. She has newcomer L. Issa in the saddle for the first race in what hopes to be a long and successful career. There is lots of early speed in this race so they may look at stalking instead of leading.<\/p>\n

( AL MUFTI x BUCKAROO x WARNING(GB)) A nice claim for trainer Healthy who plucked this lady from a maiden claimer then promptly watched her finish a close second in a Stakes race last time out. This will be her first outing on the grass and it might be up her alley although she had a very nice 71 SPF in that last dirt outing. It will be interesting to see how she responds here. Jockey Joe Cuervo has been having one of his worst years in his ten years of experience and is due for a bounce back. Lots of questions to be answered with this team.<\/p>\n

( FLOWER ALLEY x TOUGH KNIGHT x BOLD RUCKUS out of CHAMPION BUBBA) After fading badly down the stretch in her first race, this filly showed resilience by bouncing back strong with a furious drive down the stretch to win with a 70 SPF last time out. Both of those races were on the dirt and trainer Meguire2 is taking a chance to put her on the turf this time. Her mom ran equally well on both surfaces though so those genes may carry over. Jockey Barn TheDog has solid credentials and should be able to help her find her way across the green stuff. <\/p>\n

This has a chance to be a really electrifying race and it may end up with lots of jostling for the win at the finish. It will depend a lot how the front runners hold up as there should be lots of competition on the front end. I like ARRAFFA <\/b> to finish fourth although she may finish much better. You also have to wonder if her off track experience may help her here. If we had a better jockey in the saddle, I might pick FANTASTICA VISIONE <\/b> to win but I\u2019m not sure that McCartney can find his way to the jockey room let around the track this year with his struggles. Third place for the pair. BARB’S BLACK N TAN <\/b> has the pedigree to contend for the win here but I think that she will finish second to the more seasoned SILVER SPLENDOR <\/b> who will take her inside post and turn it into a wire to wire win.<\/p>\n
