In an unexpected turn of events, More Than Beauty(FR) provided the early speed in this one, jumping out to a short lead from the gate, with favorite Torch The Flame(KY) right on her tail. The best cushion she managed to open up was three quarters of a length, and at the half she was hanging on to a scant quarter length lead. Torch The Flame(KY) kicked into gear as they cruised past the half post, and as they reached the top of the stretch, it appeared as if she was going to walk away with it, holding nearly a two length lead as they sprinted for home. Polaxed(KY) had other ideas, though, surging pas the leader deep in the stretch. Torch The Flame(KY) wasn’t going to make it easy for her though, and started closing the small gap again as they strained for the wire. When the dust settled, Polaxed(KY) cross the line a scant quarter length ahead of Torch The Flame(KY) for the victory. Horse Pool nominee Kybean Queen(CAN) took third place honors, eight and three quarters lengths out at the wire.
