As the gates flew open Smugglers Catch, trained by <I><U>Zeplin<\/I><\/U> jumped out in front, with only Smouldering Street quick enough to stay within a length of him. By the end of the third furlong however, the effort required to stay close to Smugglers began to take its toll and Smouldering Street fell away leaving Smugglers with an uncontested lead.<\/P><P>With 2 furlongs to run the deep closers began to make their run. It was not the favourite that tore out the pack as expected, instead it was left to the <I><U>Seinfield1<\/I><\/U> runner <B>Happy Festivvus<\/B> to make a race out of it and he tore after the leader. Despite puting in a devestating closing run, the line came in time for Smugglers Catch, and he took home to <B><I>EAAA<\/B><\/I> the winning share of the $70000 purse. The favourite for the race <STRONG>Saintstown<\/STRONG> stayed on into third, without ever looking dangerous and for me was the dissapointment for the race.<\/P><P>As a reward for winning his second Stakes race in a row, Smugglers is now rated 14 in the older horses sprint dirt division.
