Today in North California we witnessed the running of the Grade III Amerika Stakes. As expected the rain stayed away for the weekend leaving the inner turf track to be listed firm at post time for the mile and one sixteenth long race. The ten horse field made their way through the post parade and all loaded uneventfully into the start gate, waiting for the bell to sound the start of the race.
Out of the gate first was bdhp<\/i> owned and trained Tebre Machia (IRE)<\/b>, who was leading by three-fourths of a length over co-favorite Yowza<\/b>, trained and owned by 8ballfarms<\/i>. Running two and one-fourth lengths back in third was longshot Carolina Quickstep (JPN)<\/b>, owned by li2<\/i>. Running in fourth and fifth were Candlepower (IRE)<\/b> and The Understudy (IRE)<\/b>, trained by keryn<\/i> and sykesy<\/i> respectively. Out of the gate last was milnerton<\/i> owned Peintre Indyman<\/b>.
Trebre Machia (IRE)<\/b> increased his lead to one and one fourth lengths over Yowza<\/b> who was still running in second with Carolina Quickstep (JPN)<\/b> in third. Candlepower (IRE)<\/b> was still running along in fourth but with Desert Star (IRE)<\/b>, owned by super2<\/i> moving up into the fifth position and pushing The Understudy<\/b> down into sixth. Peintre Indyman<\/b> continued to trail the pack, now back nine lengths off the leader.
Into the turn it was Trebre Machia (IRE)<\/b> narrowly holding on to the lead by a nose over Yowza<\/b>. Rocketing from back in eighth and into third just three and a half lengths off the pace was super10<\/i> trained Listen To The Lion (IRE)<\/b>. Moving up into fourth from mid-pack was Qamby Pub<\/b>, owned by aussie<\/i> with longshot Carolina Quickstep (JPN)<\/b> still in third. Dropping back into sixth was Desert Star (IRE)<\/b> with other co-favorite, Pulpit Fiction<\/b>, trained by foxon3<\/i>, apparently not having his run here in the Amerkia Stakes but beginning to make his move on the inside and sneaking up into seventh. The Understudy (IRE)<\/b> had dropped back into eighth with Candlepower (IRE)<\/b> fading to ninth. Still trailing the field and coming towards home was Peintre Indyman<\/b>, trailing off the leader by eleven and three-fourths lengths.
The ten horses came charging to the wire and it was Listen To The Lion (IRE)<\/b>, owned and trained by super10<\/i> to take the win under jockey K. Tolliver with a speed figure of one hundred five in 1:42. A length back behind in second was co-favorite Yowza<\/b> with Qamby Pub<\/b> in third.
