The excitement level at the track is elevated as owners of the horses come from all places to hopefully see their wonderful investment or passion claim the ultimate prize in racing.

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

This weekend’s race has attracted a top quality field of 9 runners from all over the American division and I have been here for a few days and have had the opportunity to watch them all goes through their final paces and have a chat to what trainers I could catch up with to get their opinions.

So let’s get into it and have a look at the field in more detail:

Glorious Morning trained by Seekin49er: This 4yo mare by Johannesburg who is ranked 12th in the division is a dual graded winner in 2846 and 2923 in restricted races and a second in the Poor Mona Lisa back in week 2874 where she closed late to just miss on the wire. She looked great in here final workout on Thursday morning when she just ran down and easy 3 furlongs and her trainer was impressed with the work, he said “that last start she was just off her game but also probably just found the 10 furlongs a little too far. She ran great before that in the Orange Blossom where she ran 5th and this is her favoured distance, we are very happy with her”. She certainly took the eye in her trackwork so must be a chance on looks!

Leavingonajetplace trained by Urso: A beautiful looking grey 5yo mare by Runaway Groom, she has won 10 of her 24 starts. This girl has a great record, with 5 straight 100+ speed figures with a 3 length win last time out in the Cheesy Slew Stakes. She is yet to win in graded class but has been placed back in 2909 in the D-Day Distaff at Grade II level where she ran third and she was second in week 3126 in the Pick6 Jamboree stakes. This mare just cantered a couple of laps of the sand track the morning I saw her but she looked bright and keen. Urso was looking relaxed in the dodropin and said “She has been working a treat and this is an ideal race for her. There are some good horses in this race but we are hoping for a great performance from her. She is bright, fit and very alert so she should run very well”. There was an air of confidence with Urso so I wouldn’t leave this mare out of any multiples you take and she could very well take the prize.

Publik Statement trained by Wreckagees: This is a beautiful looking mare who is by Seeking The Gold and she has won 10 of her 26 starts including a super impressive Grade II win back in week 2783 in the Original Margarita Invitational where she was too strong in the stretch. She has an impressive recent record with 3 of her last 4 runs with 100+ speed figures but only one win. This was a mare which was kept away from the track and she was taken to the pool and swam a couple of leisurely laps before heading to the sand roll where she bucked, kicked and squealed showing she is feeling pretty good. Wreckagees said “This race is a great chance for here to get right abck into form, she has been a little flat her past 2 runs so we freshened her right up and as you can see she is kicking down the doors to run!” Well I hope she kick, but strongtly at the top of the stretch, she is a good solid chance here.

Sign Of The Devil trained by Greenapple: This wonderful looking 4yo mare by Awesome again drops back in grade this week to the Grade III level after being well held at Grade II level late time out. Prior to that she won the Grade III DirtyDirtydishragyou stakes where she jumped straight to the lead and was never headed over this distance. She was another who just did some leisurely work on Thursday morning with an easy 5 furlongs and she looked good as well. Trainer Greenapple said “that this is her favourite distance and she just loves to get out in front and run, that was the trouble last start, she did not get to the front but we are hopeful here as there does not appear to be a lot of early speed. She has been in great form and last start she was just off her game so we have been easy on her on the track this week to freshen her up and she is bright as a button!” Well for me with 4 of her last 5 runs yielding 100+ speed figures she is some sort of chance!

Capoeira trained by Noia: Now this is a lovely looking 4yo mare by Theatrical. She has had quite a career to date with all but her first race in stakes or graded races. She has been running over longer distance than this most recently and drops back to the 8.5 furlongs here after a solid race last time out over the 9.5 furlongs and a win with a 104 speed figure. She is no stranger to Graded races with a super second in Grade II class back in week 2853 over this distance. Noia elected to leave this mare swimming on Thursday so I did not get a look at here, but he reassured me that she is hard and fit and is ready to go on from her last start win. He said “She is one who stalks the pace so if there is a natural front runner in the race which there looks to be then we will have a nice sit until the stretch where we will look to challenge. She is hard and fit and the distance is not a problem”. Well that is a good recommendation from the trainer!

Drop The Lemon Kid trained by Zabeel: A nice looking 4yo mare by Lemon Drop Kid who changed hands 6 starts back when she was transferred to Zabeel. She came to the new stable with one stakes win under her belt and has been a solid performer for Zabeel notching up 2 allowance wins. This is her biggest test for her with her new trainer to date. She stepped up to Grade III Class last time out and was well held on a sloppy dirt track when she faded in the stretch. She looked good in her final run down with her galloping companion. Zabeel said “she doesn’t need much work to keep her fit, she is into this race after a 2 week break so she is hard and fit. She came out of the last race well as she did not over exert herself. I think she can improve here but this is her stiffest test to date so we are hoping.” Look for a solid run from this mare.

<?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Chesapeake Strike trained by Jrogue3: This is a compact looking 4yo mare who has only had 10 starts but has 3 wins. As such she is eligible for much easier races than this. She failed on an off track last time out in the Grade III Cubic Zirconia Path where she faded badly in the stretch to finish 5th. She has won over this distance but in NW2L class so this is a huge step up but she does have a 103 speed figure 2 starts back. She did some very light trotting around the sand track to brighten her up for this race. Jrogue said “We say the smallish field here and thought we would give her another chance. She did not really handle the off track last time but we do think she is up to this class. I guess this race will really tell us where she is at as there is not much chance of a wet track here this weekend!” She will need to run out of her skin to be competitive here but the firm track does help her.

Two and One trained by Unbeatable: A lanky looking 4yo mare by Jade Hunter who has won 4 of her 19 race and has hit a purple patch of form her past 2 races. This mare won last time out with a 102 speed figure over the 8 furlongs in NW4L class. This is a huge leap in class for her as she has never been in a stakes race let alone a Graded race. She is eligible for much easier races and is probably best suited there. She looked smooth in her final workout but was just pipped on the line by her galloping companion. Unbeatable said “She has always been a lazy track worker so that does not worry me. She is in for the biggest test of her racing career here so we are really taking a leap of faith here. She is hard and fit and come into this of a last race win so we think she is some chance.” Another who will have to run out of her skin to figure in the finish.

Dragon Daisy trained by Opus: No this is a nice looking horse, she is a 4yo mare by Awesome Again who has won 6 of her 14 starts. She had her winning streak of 4 straight races broken with a second last time out but she won super impressively with a 107 speed figure over the 9 furlongs 2 starts back. A repeat of that puts her in the finish here. She looked very shiny in the coat and on her toes in her final workout where she ran down a solid 5 furlongs very early in the morning. After the work Opus said “That was impressive work, she has been in red hot form lately but was just off her feed before her last run so that may account for the loss. She has eaten every oat since getting here so I think she is back on top of her game.” She is a super chance here.

Sword Of Pgpg trained by Dgdg: A solid stakes performing brown mare by Crusader Sword who has won 8 of her 31 starts. She makes a return to graded class after being well held in a Grade II race back in week 2832. She comes in off a super win last time out in The Heathers Tongues where she just rattled in the stretch to win going away but only with a 100 speed figure. She looked bright and keen in her last work Thursday morning before heading for a walk and a pick of grass. Dgdg said “She is a solid performing mare and this is not what we think is a strong race. She will run well, but will probably have to run right up to her best to be in the finish but she is capable.” Another who I think will have to run out of her skin to get amongst the finish. But she is suited at this distance.

Not tips forthcoming from me, just good luck to all runners!!

Simon

[2

post-4231","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-previews
["GET
