A quartet of\u00a0well bred five year old mares will square off\u00a0in So Cal’s The FORTY SIX GROOM Special.\u00a0 Let’s meet the ladies in post position order.<\/DIV>

Royally\u00a0bred Sleeping Beauty<\/STRONG> (EMPIRE MAKER x SEATTLE SLEW x NORTHERN DANCER) <\/A>is seeking her first career stakes win.\u00a0 Moreready’s flashy chestnut has been knocking at the door for quite a while.\u00a0 Last December she led the Rhode Island Dyna Page Stakes field until deep stretch before settling for the place.\u00a0 Three back she stalked the leader in a North Dakota stake, took command close to home, but was caught late.\u00a0 Two weeks later she raced in North Dakota again.\u00a0 Sleeping Beauty employed similar tactics and looked to be a sure winner.\u00a0 But she hung a bit late and dropped a\u00a0head decision to the fast closing Slammin Sov<\/STRONG>.\u00a0 Last time out, right here in So Cal, she broke slowly and never got involved.\u00a0 Certainly capable of kicking that door down with her best effort.\u00a0 <\/DIV>

Ultra Cat<\/STRONG> didn’t start racing until November of her three year old year.\u00a0\u00a0Then the\u00a0big Fu Peg x Storm Cat mare spent the majority of her\u00a0four year old\u00a0season\u00a0sprinting.\u00a0 She was stakes placed\u00a0early on, but didn’t look like a real\u00a0added money type until recently.\u00a0 Pinerivers stretched her out to nine furlongs on the grass in January and, all of a sudden, she became a different horse.\u00a0 Ultra Cat now has three wins, a second and a third from five turf routes.\u00a0 She got her first stakes win two starts back over a\u00a0wet Lombardi Turf Course in Wisconsin under\u00a0talented jockette Linda Cihak.\u00a0 Her most recent outing found her charging hard late but running out of ground and settling for third as the favorite in The Grade II Barbara Bush.\u00a0 Excellent chance to make amends on Saturday.<\/DIV>

Tracy’s Bigmoose2\u00a0 barn sends out speedy Lily Mansfield<\/STRONG> for this test.\u00a0 Lily\u00a0may be best remembered for her sterling silver medal performance in Winter Equinics 2006.\u00a0 The blue blooded mare (DEPUTY MINISTER x SECRETARIAT x NIJINSKY II<\/A>) has enjoyed a great deal of success sprinting, but is untested beyond a mile and a sixteenth.\u00a0\u00a0The comely Squirrel Stables homebred\u00a0ended a long losing streak last time out in British Columbia when she dusted a short field at short odds in the six and a half furlong Sound And Fury Special.\u00a0 It would be no surprise to find Lily in the winners circle again\u00a0if she handles the distance.<\/DIV>

Rounding out the compact but classy field is Burnin’s Dynahigh<\/STRONG>(IRE).\u00a0 The swift daughter of High Chaparral(IRE) and the stakes winning Dynaformer mare, Dry Rain, is seeking her second\u00a0successive So Cal success.\u00a0 Last time out, Randy L.’s homebred turned in a\u00a0sparkling\u00a0front running score in the Grade II Barbara\u00a0Bush at\u00a0ten panels on the grass.\u00a0 That was the second\u00a0Grade II mile and a quarter turf win of her career.\u00a0 As a sophomore, she won the I’m Lost Handicap at Woodbine.\u00a0 A victory on Saturday would push the ONEWORLD Stables star over the million dollar mark in career earnings.\u00a0 Big shot to do so.\u00a0<\/DIV><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
