The race is named for the mare Double Platinum who was 7/28 lifetime at the track with 4 stakes victories and over $400K in earnings.

Let’s take a look at today’s field:

1)SATAN’S WISH(KY)—8/1—theodore10 sends out this filly out of E DUBAI with a record of 12-2-6-2 and $95,332 in lifetime earnings. This 229th divisional ranked filly had 3 seconds, 1 third and 1 4th in 5 stakes starts as a 2 year old. In 2007 she finished in the money in 3 straight allowance races including a win. In her next start her connections offered her up for a tag and she was promptly claimed by Theo, the current track manager at Minnesota Downs. In that race she posted her lifetime best 92 speed rating and with only 12 starts under her belt there should be room for improvement. When asked, Theo did state that she was originally slated for an allowance start but figured to give her a shot in this overnite stakes at our home track and try to cash in on the 200 credit prize for hometown winners. The Australian Flash J Ritorto (10.9%) gets the usual call for this barn for whom he has picked up 9 of his 19 wins so far this season. While this filly can stalk the early pace she seems to run better coming from the back and hopefully the flash will heed to this advice.

2)PAINTBRUSH(KY)—7/2—buckaroo sends out this filly out of JOHAR with a record of 13-6-2-1 and lifetime earnings of $198,970. This 61st divisional ranked filly is shipping in from Vermont (Pastures of Green) who just recently won a rez challenge contest over Minnesota and with the locals still upset over those results extra security had to be put in this fillies stall to ensure her safety. This filly progressed nicely as a 2 year old after stretching out her races to 8 furlongs and won 3 of her last 4 starts in 2006. She won her stakes debut in her first race in 2007 and also tried the Grade II Louisiana Oaks where she could not compete. She rebounded from that race to win back to back allowance races and in one of those she posted her lifetime best 93 speed rating. One of the top jocks at the circuit, Friar (20.6%) will be riding this shipper for today’s feature race, much to the chagrin of the local race fans. This filly should be on or near the front for today’s race.

3)UNO GATO(FL)—5/1—qhorseguy sends out this filly out of MACHO UNO with a record of 7-4-1-1 and lifetime earnings of $142,610. She is out of the mare XROSSED UP CAT who was 1/5 at the track with 2 Graded stakes placings and has 2 foals on record both winners with one a stakes winner and the other stakes placed. This 87th divisional ranked filly is another who is shipping in from Vermont (Pastures of Green) and has been placed in the barn next to the other filly so as to save money on the extra security charges needed. She was 3 for 3 in her 2 year old season including 2 stakes victories albeit both were against small 4 horse fields. She won her debut stakes in 2007 as a 3 year old and then finished 2nd in a Grade III 7 furlong sprint in New Mexico. In 2 races since then she has finshed 3rd and 5th with her speed rating regressing in the wrong directions and her connections hope she can change that pattern with today’s race. Her best races have been when she has been on or pressing the pace and the circuits top jockey Bowen (21.2%) should have her charging right out of the gate. It remains to be seen whether she can handle the extra distance in today’s race. It should also be noted that the Vermont connections have somehow monopolized the top 2 riders from Minnesota for today’s race.

4)THE CHIP’S CRAFTY(KY)—4/1—dozaa sends out this filly out of CRAFTY PROSPECTOR with a record of 13-5-2-4 and lifetime earnings of $99,005. This 274th divisional ranked filly races out of the local doza barns and is the second horse in the field eligible for the Minnesota Downs 200 credit bonus for local horsemen. In 8 starts as a 2 year old this filly had 2 allowance wins and is 3/5 in this 2007 season. She is a speed horse who runs best on the lead and may find she has company with others her vying for the early lead. She has posted 90+ speed rating in her last 2 starts and did win at this distance in her last start. While she has yet to win in 3 stakes starts she has cashed a cheque in all of those added money events. She retains the services of Stinson(12.6%) who rode her to victory in her 2007 debut race, and he is closing in on $300K in earnings for this season.

5)SAUJON(KY)—5/1—fortywalt sends out this filly out of ECTON PARK with a record of 11-6-1-0 and lifetime earnings of $124,560. She is out of the mare OJAI SCORPION who was 9/37 at the track with 1 stakes win. This mare has 2 foals of record, this filly and a 2 year old who is so far winless in 2 starts. This filly races for an Irish based group of stables that have over 1900 wins to their credit so she should not be taken lightly in this race. She had a busy 2 year old season running 8 times with 5 wins including an overnite stakes race. She won her 2007 debut in an overnite stakes race in Arizona over 8.5 furlongs in which she posted her lifetime best 91 speed rating and then tried her luck in 2 Grade II stakes events. She was unable to compete in those races and had a big regression in her last race. It is hoped that the easier company in today’s race will have her bounce back to her previous form. This closer will be in the hands of Swamps Upertoy(6.5%) who has been a mainstay jockey since the opening of this track when he moved his tack over from somewhere in the Swamps of New Jersey, albeit he has been riding less and less over the last couple of seasons since he took up his second job as a harness race driver across town and his third job of driving the hay sled rides at the local winter fair.

6)COUNTRY DANZ(KY)—13/1—desertrain sends out this filly out of LANGFUHR with a record of 8-2-1-0 and lifetime earnings of $33,660. This divisional unranked filly runs for an unknown racing outfit with 38 starts in the stable. She was 1/3 as a 2 year old winning her MSW in her second start. She is 0/5 lifetime in stakes starts where she has yet to finish inside of 9 lenghts of the winner yet she did win an allowance contest this season posting a lifetime best 86 speed rating over 8 furlongs. While this may not be the toughest stakes field in the making it is believed that this filly would probably be better off running in restricted allowance running out her conditions which is probably why she has been listed as the morning line longshot. This closer will be in the hands of Zandofsky (2.9%) who has had it tough of lately after having some ok seasons. He will be looking for only his 2nd win of the year on this filly in today’s race.

7)SATAN’S DELIGHT(KY)—2/1—sparcon sends out this filly out of DISTORTED HUMOR with a record of 14-5-2-2 and lifetime earnings of $108,012. This 185th divisional ranked filly come out of the Natrap barns based in Kentucky and they have shipped this horse up to Minnesota for this added money event. She raced 10 times as a 2 year old with 3 allowance wins. She has won 2 of her 4 starts this year including her 1st stakes victory last time out in a 6 furlong overnite event in Iowa where she posted a lifetime best 97 speed rating. While this horse has shown versatility in her running style both being able to run up front and show some closing ability she has never won a race over 7 furlongs. It remains to be seen whether she will be able to handle the 8.5 furlongs in today’s race and that will make her status as morning line favorite very jittery to some of the local handicappers. Jockey Green (10.3%) will appear to have options in how he runs this horse today.

A nice group of fillies entered for today’s race. I will definitely go with #1 SATAN’S WISH to win this race today in my totally unbiased position of being the fillies owner. LOL.

WHAT’S HAPPENING AT THE MINNESOTA DOWNS RESIDENCE THIS WEEK

In last week’s Minnesota Sire Series 2 race for GULCH bred horses we had a reverse of finish from the 1st leg when the series was switched to the turf. Theo’s Stormina just held on by the slightest of nose finishes over 1st race winner Cothill’s Big Gulp RYRY which has them tied for 1st in the series. The next race will be in week 3224 with a 7.5 furlong sprint on the turf.

Doza won the speed rating contest last week with LYNDHURST who posted a 99 speed rating.
