Unfortunately, a certain ostentatious statue can’t go with all those things, but fortunately, exciting stakes races continue at Gulfstream Park this weekend. This includes some of the sims fastest 3 year old sprinters, most of whom are stakes winners already, who have come to south Florida to compete for a $375,000 purse in the Swale Stakes.

BAD LANDS TONIGHT (8/1)

Expert puts out one of their top earning 3 year olds in BAD LANDS TONIGHT, a colt by SPECIAL WEEK out of a scratch-bred mare by WOODMAN (x DIXIELAND BAND). This horse has stuck mostly to shorter sprints, and unsuccessfully dabbled in two routes. Drawing the rail could be fatal for this horse, but getting an extra furlong than he’s used to could allow him to ease up out of the gate and make up that ground in the backstretch. Pay particular attention to the first 1/4 mile; the #4 horse, ROYAL ENGAGEMENT has set some blistering speeds up front, and this could dictate BAD LANDS TONIGHT’s success come Saturday.

FINAL GESTURE (10/1)

This kennyg trainee is familiar with Grade II foes, albeit against 2 year olds, so past success may not be a great indicator in the new year. That said, This horse has placed at 7 furlongs in a Grade II, and is coming off a considerable amount of rest. If one assumes that FINAL GESTURE (BANK HEIST x AGNES DIGITAL x SILVER DEPUTY) rested for 6 weeks and training for approximately 6 more, this horse could be prime to put up a massive performance. At 10-1 moneyline, this horse needs to be on everyone’s radar.

HEAVENLY BUNKER (39/1)

You need to walk before you run, and this horse hasn’t cracked an 80 Speed Figure (SF), let alone a 90. That, plus not having won more than one race to date means I can’t in good conscious pick this horse. Look for its odds to soar to 75-1 at post.

ROYAL ENGAGEMENT (6/1)

This is your pace setter, who didn’t quite have enough in the tank back in October going 7 furlongs in a Grade II. However, the horse has matured nicely, and is coming off a win just over 2 weeks ago. GIO PONTI progeny generally mature a little later, so I am going to go out on a limb and say this horse has a chance to sustain itself and wire the field here in what would be an amazing feat of stamina.

DARK FORT LIME (62/1)

INTELLO has only produced one Grade II winner in the sim; while I think there’s a good chance this horse could respond to the surface change, I don’t think it will be enough to overcome how outclassed this horse is against a stellar field.

BABS BANJO STRING (24/1)

At 14/1, this horse surprised everyone in the Flys Motivator Dirt Juvenile back in December, and I think this 7 furlong battle suits this horse well. The sire lines on this horse (GIMMEAWINK x SILVER TRAIN x GREEN DESERT) don’t jump off the paper at you, but his mare is a stakes winner at the sprint level, and has previously produced a Grade III winner. I think BABS BANJO STRING, a Pennsylvania-bred salad trainee, is ripe for a big payout on Saturday.

SIPPIN AGAIN (10/1)

The connections of SIPPIN AGAIN look to do exactly that as they look to celebrate back-to-back trips to the winners circle. SIPPIN AGAIN (AWESOME AGAIN x STREET CRY x FORTY NINER) looks bred for a 7 furlong trip, and is coming off a residency restricted stakes win in the 2016 Blazing Saddles Breeders Showdown Juvenile Sprint. Blazing Saddles is a top 10 residency, so that is not something to take lightly. On top of that, this mtkhoflegacy trainee is already a winner against Grade II company, and I like the rest this horse has taken since its last trip out.

DARK TEQUILA (14/1)

Lightng115 enters DARK TEQUILA (GUTAIFAN x BESTYOUCANBE x MINING) off almost 45 days rest. The Gulfstream handicappers are penalizing this horse for some reason, and if this horse goes off at anything longer than 7/2, he is going to pay big time. While I’m generally suspicious of 2 year old wins, DARK TEQUILA has already taken down a Grade II title in the Hoserhead Juvenile last year. That race was a 7 furlongs, and has only raced that length once since that graded win. After trying two routes–which is why this horse is going off at 14/1, in my opinion–DARK TEQUILA came out and ran a great race in the Grade III The Happytime Stakes. This is a horse to watch.

BERNARDINI CAT (9/2)

BERNARDINI CAT (BERNARDINI x STORM CAT x SEEKING THE GOLD) set a quick pace in his last time out in the Gone Wild Dirt Juvenile, but lacked late race stamina to keep him from being passed by foes down the stretch. The horse is coming off more than 45 days rest, and is ready to show some progression from his last race. Breaking from the 9th spot, this horse will need to get away clean in order to get out to the pace. After that, a lot of this trip will be up to the jockey, who will need to make sure the ddstables trainee doesn’t expend too much energy up front. Look for this horse to drop to 3/1, a price that is pretty good for this colt.

EUROPA TRIP (6/1)

Trainer Mark Casse recently lamented trainers’ tendencies to give their horse 4 or more weeks of rest between races. His point that when a horse is hot, you need to race it while it’s hot, and not acquiesce to convention wisdom that horses need a ton of rest. Trainer deauville must subscribe to the Casse school of thought because his colt, EUROPA TRIP (TRIPPI x CAPE CANAVERAL x DANZIG) is coming off just two weeks rest to take on this Grade II field. EUROPA TRIP has been sent out at 7 furlongs to disappointing results, and seems to like the 6.5 furlong distance, having won two listed stakes at that distance by a combined 4.25 length margin. I think this horse stays at 6/1 tomorrow, but won’t be getting a play from me.

WAR ETHICS (10/1)

This scratch-bred WAR FRONT colt looks to me to be built for 7 furlongs, and he’ll get his chance on two months rest after a 6 furlong listed stakes win in the High Bidder Dirt Juvenile. Those are the big upsides to this teamasr4 trainee, but the horse has been running non-stop since March 2016, and has visited every corner of North America in that time frame. My guess is that wear and tear could limit this horse’s performance tomorrow, so I’m up in the air on this colt.

TORNADO CURLS (8/1)

This is a well-bred horse (CURLIN x STORM CAT x ALYDAR) who is coming off a win in an allowance, but against a limited field. This horse has thrown up impressive SFs, but I think it may be outmatched by the rest of this field, despite the dundey trainee’s affinity for races in the 7 furlong range. I’m going to pass, but this horse probably has the best chance of showing me why I’m not a professional handicapper.

IMPAZIBLE CAT (9/1)

If had a solid New York-bred sprinter, I’d be seriously considered about this nice colt out of the mschweitzer barn. IMPAZIBLE CAT (MISSION IMPAZIBLE x STORM CAT x SHARROOD) is coming off back-to-back wins in the Grade III The Happytime Stakes and a restricted NW2L allowance. The big question is whether or not this horse wants 7 furlongs, and I’m not sold on that yet. Hoping he proves me wrong.

TIZTOWN CHACHIN (12/1)

Bigwinner sends out this TIZWAY colt who has proven himself once at the listed stakes level as a 2 year old, but finished almost 9 lengths back in the 7 furlong Gone Wild Dirt Juvenile, a race tomorrow’s favorite, BERNARDINI CAT, placed in. This horse is maturing nicely and seems to like these 6.5 or 7 furlong races, but is just a touch outclassed here.

CapeCod’s Picks:

7 – SIPPIN AGAIN

8 – DARK TEQUILA

9 – BERNARDINI CAT

CapeCod’s All-Time Record:

6-6-6 (37.5%)

CapeCod’s Record LTO:

1-0-0 (33%)

Swale Stakes (Grade II) 3 Year Olds | 6.5 Furlongs | Dirt | $375,000 All the talk of deep-pocketed horsemen

[2

post-40728","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-previews
["GET
