The Hall of Fame recently inducted a new member, Seize the Throne for achievements as a broodmare.\u00a0 The sixteen year old daughter of Kingmambo x Seattle Slew x Secretariat was bred to be enshrined in such a hallowed place and certainly owner socalman had high hopes for her way back when but it took a while for Seize the Throne to shine.<\/p>\n
Seize the Throne began her career as a two year old in 2002, breaking her maiden in her second start.\u00a0 That was a promising beginning for her but she failed to fulfill her promise.\u00a0 She made one stakes appearance in her only start on turf and ran just okay in two route starts.\u00a0 She saw the winner\u2019s circle again in November of her two year old year, winning an allowance but by early in her three year old season she was retired after a poor performance.\u00a0 Never allowed to fulfill her potential on the track, Seize the Throne would have to do it in the breeding shed.<\/p>\n

Her first foal did not come for another two years after she retired.\u00a0 Named Perfect Reign the colt was by Pleasantly Perfect.\u00a0 He didn\u2019t break his maiden until November of his two year old year and spent much of his career in claiming events but he had a handy career winning seven times and running in the money eighteen other times from forty six starts.\u00a0 Overall he earned just shy of two hundred thousand dollars.\u00a0 His only foal was a colt by Vindication named Perfect Vindictive who was an allowance winner.<\/p>\n
Seize the Throne\u2019s second foal was another colt this one by Saint Liam and named Dalriada.\u00a0 Dalriada was not as consistent as his elder brother winning only three times in thirty seven starts.\u00a0 He did show promise early on by winning his debut and running second and then third in two listed events.\u00a0 He never really matured beyond his two year old form and passed hands several times.\u00a0 He most recently ran in a claiming race on July 4th<\/sup> of this year.<\/p>\n The first taste of success Seize the Throne had came in 2007 when she was bred to Giant\u2019s Causeway.\u00a0 She produced her first filly named Lacada Point.\u00a0 Lacada Point was bred late in the year and broke her maiden in December in her third start.\u00a0 She took a while to find her stride but midway through her three year old season she started putting it all together and won three straight allowance races.\u00a0 She tried a listed and was well beaten but returned to allowance competition to win twice more and then added her first listed win in December of her three year old season.\u00a0 A mile and three eighths seemed to be her sweet spot although she did win at slightly shorter distances.\u00a0 Lacada Point spent much of her four year old season running in listeds and winning before finally trying the Grade One Personal Sign at a mile and one quarter and winning with a strong 115 speed.\u00a0 She tried the boys next in the Jockey Guild Gold Cup but failed to mount a challenge.\u00a0 Lacada Point added a grade three later in the year and the following year she finished second in a defense of her Personal Sign victory.\u00a0 Overall she won twenty races from forty six starts with ten seconds and four thirds with earnings over a million dollars.\u00a0 As a broodmare she has been lackluster but she is the granddam of one graded placed stakes winner and three stakes placed runners.<\/p>\n Seize the Thrones fourth foal, Old Town, became her first success on turf.\u00a0 He started on the dirt but only won once in three starts.\u00a0 He won his first two starts on turf including a listed stakes race to end his two year old season.\u00a0 As a three year old he became a very consistent graded runner winning the Grade Three Craven Stakes and the Grade Two Saint James Tavern, both at one mile.\u00a0 He was also second in the Grade One French Two Thousand Guineas.\u00a0 Old Town was never quite the same after his three year old season but he was a solid allowance horse and ended his career with ten wins from thirty nine starts.\u00a0 He was hemared in 2011 and bred to Encosta de Lago, producing a graded placed stakes winner.<\/p>\n French Revolution, a Montjeu filly came along in 2009.\u00a0 She was another late-breeding, debuting in October of her two year old season.\u00a0 By April of her three year old season French Revolution won the Grade Three Cleopatra at a mile and five sixteenths before winning the Grade One Diana Grand Prix at a mile and three eighths in her next start.\u00a0 She completed a hat trick by winning the Grade Two Mallrat Stakes before finally returning to earth by finishing third in the Grade One Irish Oaks.\u00a0 French Revolution became a consistent listed runner in following years before being retired to the life of a broodmare in 2013.\u00a0 She has yet to reproduce herself in the shed though.<\/p>\n Starting in 2010 Seize the Throne was bred to less fashionable sires than she had been in her previous breedings.\u00a0 Her 2010 foal British Tradition was by Old Fashioned.\u00a0 She won nine listed stakes races going short on the lawn and was grade two placed.\u00a0 Next came the colt Irish Rebellion by Indian Charlie.\u00a0 He won seven races, mostly sprinting on the dirt and ran several triple digit speeds but was only an allowance winner.\u00a0 He retired in 2015 without being bred.\u00a0 2012 saw Seize the Throne sent to Zensational to whose cover she produced Lord Comandress who won ten starts in her career going middle distances on dirt.\u00a0 In 2015 she produced a listed stakes winner by Tomahawk.<\/p>\n Lombard Kingdom by Bernardini came along in 2013.\u00a0 He was a precocious two year old who won the Grade Three Buckeye Juvenile at a mile and one sixteenth in just his fourth career start.\u00a0 As a three year old he added a couple of allowance wins at a mile and one half.\u00a0 He eventually settled his career by being a seven and one half furlong specialist.\u00a0 He was retired earlier this year and bred to Street Sense.<\/p>\n Another colt came along in 2014, this one by War Front and named Hostile Coup.\u00a0 He failed to live up to his breeding having only won three times from twenty starts.\u00a0 He was most recently seen in a high priced claiming race.<\/p>\n It was A Thousand Stars who pushed Seize the Throne into the Hall of Fame.\u00a0 The filly by Sea the Stars has spent the year quietly putting together a solid career but last weekend she represented Pastures of Green in the Equinics race for three year old fillies going a mile on the dirt successfully.\u00a0 At odds of nearly 20\/1 A Thousand Stars beat a field that included two grade one winners, four other graded stakes winners and five other stakes winners to win by one quarter length with a 111 speed.\u00a0 Overall A Thousand Stars has won six times from ten starts with two placings.\u00a0 She has a bright future in front of her and the sky\u2019s the limit for her.<\/p>\n Seize the Throne\u2019s two year old son Al Qasimi by Dubawi has also started his career off well with a win in his debut in 2016.\u00a0 Interestingly the colt debuted on the dirt even though Dubawi is generally considered a turf sire.\u00a0 Seize the Throne has shown remarkable dexterity in producing offspring who run on anything \u2013 dirt or turf, long or short, precocious or late developing.\u00a0 She\u2019s only sixteen so she has several offspring left
