In a precedent-setting move, the Irish Boxing Authority revoked Maloney’s license after he lost some 60 straight fights in an attempt to win his 200th career victory. Sadly, he was forced to retire with a career mark of 199 wins and more than 200 losses.

Seeking to capitalize on his former profession, Maloney agreed this week to participate in a boxing exhibition at the Spa of the Appalachians. Prior to the RODOT races on Tuesday, Maloney was to box a series of what were to be lighthearted exhibitions against members of the public, who were to pay $100 a head to “box” a two-minute round against the former Irish champion. Proceeds were to benefit a new benevolent organization meant to aid former members of the local steelworkers’ union who have blown their life savings in the slot machines at Old Waterford.

Initially, everything went according to plan. Old Jocko clowned around the ring with the first few paying customers, lightly pawing at his opponents. Then, the fourth paying customer got into the ring, a longtime old Greek railbird from nearby Weirton, W.Va., who has been among the most vociferous critics of Maloney’s come-from-behind riding style. “You gutless coward! You can’t ride!” he has been heard to yell when Jocko crosses the finish line off the board, as he has done very, very often this year.

Recognizing the man, Jocko dropped the lightheartedness and spat on his shoes. “Agh!!!,” he yelled at him, recalling the many public humiliations he has endured as the subject of the heckler’s jabs. Angrily, the heckler slugged Jocko a good one, a mistake he will not soon forget. While the Irish immigrant jockey no longer is able to win a professional prize fight, he still knows how to throw a punch, about two dozen of which he rained down upon the poor man before volunteers could scramble into the ring and stop him.

After a talking-to by Drunken Morning Line Oddsmaker Charlie Hoop, Jocko agreed that the exhibitions could continue, and that he would take it easy as he had before. Instead, Jocko turned brutal, pounding several opponents in a row, the last of which was a little old lady from the Methodist church in New Cumberland. A growing crowd decided enough was enough, and stormed the ring to put the beatdown on Jocko, which they did in horrible fashion for about an hour. Eventually, the melee eased and Maloney was carried from the ring in a beaten, bloody pulp.

He is expected to ride on Saturday.

As a matter of fact, he will climb, or be helped, aboard one of Wassie’s non-contest horses in the feature, the SENIOR J.O STAKES for older horses going nine furlongs on the main track. As always, let’s rank them in order of qualification.

At the top, and way at the top, is bigkev’s CANUNDRA FOLLY. This 5yo son of Danzig is seeking to string together three solid, stakes-winning campaigns. He was placed in multiple graded races as a 3yo, and put together a three-race winning streak in non-graded stakes company last year. Since then, however, the big hoss has lost six in a row, appearing to the undiscerning eye that he’s gone off form. But has he? Considering the company he’s been keeping, probably not. Sure, Candundra Folly has lost six straight, but look at who he’s been racing against this year. He’s been in two Grade Is and a Grade 3. Two back, he was a close up fourth, beaten less than two lengths, in the Grade I Glenn Handicap going this exact distance. There were two Top 20 Classic horses in the exacta that day (OTTO CAUSES and FLY FOR BUDA). There is no such opposition here. Three back, the horse was third in a Grade I. This race is an excellent opportunity for Candundra Folly to get back to his winning ways and assert some dominance again over the non-graded level. That being said, the regression to sixth in a Grade 3 last out is a cause for concern, and judging from his last two and history of racing shorter, Canundra Folly might just hang a little at the wire. Then again, he might just have so much class on them that he’s gone. We’ll see.

Qualifying second but far back of the top horse is larsonisto’s UNCLE PAULY. This 4yo brown son of Fantastic Light has 31 stakes points, far below the 96 belonging to Canundra Folly, and has earned only $5,097 per start in 14 career starts, far below Canundra Folly’s $18,000-plus. So, we have to begin our observation of this horse with the knowledge that he’s conceding a major class edge. Might he have any advantages to make up for the difference? Yes, he might. Take a look at Uncle Pauly’s victory five back in a stakes going this distance. That’s the exact kind of race which might upset the apple cart for the top qualifier. Uncle Pauly has the ability to finish strongly at this distance and this class. And, he very well may be sitting on a big race here. This is his second back off a layoff. Uncle Pauly started to wear down a little bit at the end of last year after that big effort in winning the stake, and ran three straight speed figs below 100, which isn’t like him. Larsonisto gave him his needed break and the return race seems to confirm it was the perfect tonic. Uncle Pauly ran on well to be second in an allowance this distance, vaulting back over the triple digit speed fig again. If he moves forward off that race, he will present real problems in the lane for this field.

Drunken Morning Line Oddsmaker Charlie Hoop says the third qualifier, babyfarms’ HERE FOR THE PARTY, is the most likely one to beat the top qualifier. He makes this 5yo brown son of Hansel the same price as Canundra Folly. At 7-2, they are co-favorites. What might the Tipsy One like about this horse. How about five straight triple digit speed figs, and 14 of the last 16? That is some amazing consistency in the speed figure department. This is a horse to be respected, because it’s hard to find ones like these who fire their shot almost every time. If you have a horse in this race who is unlikely to run a triple digit speed fig, you just are not going to beat Here for the Party, regardless of the trip or how the race plays out. That being said, Here for the Party does not enter this race in his best form. It’s an interesting study with this horse and trying to figure why he’s uncharacteristically run a few below average in a row. He used to be a stout closer, swooping from 10th to score his most recent stakes victory. Then, a funny thing happened. Babyfarms found a short field for Here for the Party, a five-horse field in a stake, and his horse found himself on the lead. He hasn’t been the same since. Instead of showing that swift finishing kick that had served him so well, Here for the Party has been hanging in his last few races. One can’t just wonder if that curveball thrown his way in that short field hasn’t messed with him somehow. This isn’t the toughest field in the world and could help him on his way to recovering his old form, but considering the current state of things, Charlie has him underlaid at 7-2.

First of our three non-contest entries for the Racing Garbaccio’s is the one with the unsteady jockey. Jocko Maloney goes from the hospital to the saddle aboard Wassie’s THUNDERING THEIF G, a 5yo chestnut son of Cat Thief out of his medusa stable. Meds in the USA, that’s what Jocko is going to need to hold the reins on this one, considering the broken bones and internal injuries suffered in this week’s riot. The horse has struggled for the most part in stakes company, with far more out of the money finishes than good ones, and does not have very good current form to speak of. At least he fits Jocko’s preferred style, coming from behind, but who knows if Jocko will still be in the saddle by the time they turn for home? The horse only breaks the 100 speed fig once in a while, and his chances do not seem to improve with the presence of a comatose jockey.

Fifth is a non-contest runner for the leader of our current competition, Las Vegas Bob, whose chances of earning his first-ever championship are hurt none at all by the fact that only Chuckrock is in action this week. Even without the contest action, we’re sure Bob will be pulling hard for HERE’S INDY BG out of his bobg7 stable. This 4yo son of Dehere is jumping back into stakes action after four straight races in allowance company. This is one of those horses who accomplished a lot as a 2yo but hasn’t quite been able to back that up as he’s gotten older. As one might expect of a son of the speedy, precocious sire Dehere, Here’s Indy BG was very good on the racetrack in his juvenile season. He captured two stakes titles and was on the board in two more. They caught up to him as a 3yo, however, and stakes competition has been beyond his reach ever since. Here’s Indy BG has been off the board in nine straight stakes races now, never hitting the board in one since he turned 3. Witnessing his recent good races in allowance company, Bob has decided it’s time for another shot. Despite that ugly oh-for-nine streak, this is not the worst spot to try to break it, considering this is not the toughest stakes field in the Simulated world and Here’s Indy BG could use his speed to benefit from a potential soft early pace.

SPENT A BUCK G is another non-contest horse out of the Garbaccio racing family, this time out of Wassie’s ngng stable. This 5yo chestnut son of Machiavellian is still looking to make his chops in stakes company. He’s raced almost exclusively in allowance races for all of his career, which has been respectable at the very least. He’s no world-beater, but he has managed to win $120,000-plus in 33 career starts, and he’s capable of running a triple-digit speed fig. Whether or not he can do it in stakes company remains to be seen, however. He had a bad trip to Mexico for a stake last out, finishing well beaten in 12th. The fact that he’s only 10-1 off that dismal effort speaks to the relative soft nature of this field.

One has to wonder how good the rest of this field can be if they’re ranked behind Wassie’s horse, who never has hit the board in a stake in his life. That being said, two such supposed “no-hopers” hit the board in last week’s race. The place horse we dismissed completely, and we didn’t even mention the show horse, which was a simple stupid omission. Let’s see what’s left here:

Aha! A gem! Colt’s ROLL WITH IT is an up-and-coming racer loaded with potential. This 4yo brown son of Pulpit makes only his 17th career start here and he’s getting major respect from Charlie as the clear third choice at 5-1. While more than one of the top contenders in here is trying to regain their past form, Roll With It appears to be just hitting his stride, unleashing big late runs to win three of his last five, all of which have produced 100-plus speed figs. This horse was second in a stake three back. This race here Saturday is going to be a big test for this horse. It’s the first time he’s racing this far. His late kick has been very effective in races up to a mile, but will that translate to the same sort of result going nine furlongs instead of eight? One could not blame colt for fairly rejoicing if his horse runs good here, because it will open a whole world of stakes action to this horse. There are big bucks to be had if the Roll With It can compete beyond a mile. Where will he be placed early? Can he pass horses in the stretch going this far? Big questions and a big day for this horse.

UNBRIDLED INDY qualifies eighth for badkarma. Speaking only in terms of the new horse pictures, we are gonna take a guess that if your horse remains a cartoon figure at the age of 6, as is the case with Unbridled Indy, then you probably don’t have the second coming of I SEEK U on your hands. This regally-bred 6yo son of A.P. Indy was meant to be a good one, but just has not panned out, earning only $62,000 in 26 career starts. He was in good form about 14 months ago, stringing together several wins in allowance company, but it’s all gone wrong since then. The horse has managed only two shows in his eight most recent races, none more ugly than his last two in which he was well beaten. Not much to like here, even at 17-1. Now watch him go.

Ninth is ANCIENT VIC(GB) for saxlhoff. Believe it or not, this one is in worse form than Unbridled Indy. He’s run 22 in a row now without topping the triple-digit speed fig barrier. He’s never been so good as second in those 22 races. With only three wins and a second in 41 career starts, just cover the eyes of the children and scurry quickly past this one.

Tenth and getting immediate attention from the stewards is the one with the cop-magnetizing name, BARON VON MLKSHAKE. In defense of trainer ets4, he or she did not name the horse, he or she just claimed him. That was three back when ets4 picked up this 4yo chestnut son of Behrens for $15,000. The horse ran a big race last out this distance in a starter allowance with a big speed fig of 105. Why not take a shot? Even if the horse cannot handle this class of runners, ets4 gets to see what he or she has got and can better gauge what to do next off this race. Whatever happens, Baron Von Mlkshake keeps that $15,000 tag for a while now and ets4 is going to be able to make hay with a good claim.

Finally, we have the only contest horse in this field. Chuckrock takes a shot with DESIRABLE out of his cdonofri stable. Unfortunately, this one never has broken the triple-digit speed fig barrier, and is very much up against here both class- and speed figure-wise.

GOOD LUCK EVERYBODY!!!!!!

[2

post-3846","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-previews
["GET
