We have an interesting group of 3 yo fillies taking the gate this afternoon in going a mile on dirt for a cool $1,000,000 purse. Let’s take a look at the 19 runners “Under Pressure” to bring home a medal for their respective residencies.

1) EIGHTEEN SUMMERS (KY) 27/1 – $152K (SP)

This bay filly by Colonel John out of a Zabeel mare goes out for the BAILEYSTABLE barn representing QUEENSLAND RACECOURSE.

Heavily raced filly appears to do her best running out front. Hit the board in a listed as a 2 yo but that was going 5f on dirt. Reeled off 3 straight ALW wins in dirt route races prior to her last which was a very dull and disappointing effort in going 8.25f on dirt. Appears to be in over her head in taking major class jump here. Look elsewhere.

2) XANTICO ZIP (KY) 10/1 – $424K (SW/GP)

This lovely scratchbred chestnut filly (City Zip x AP Indy x Alydar) goes out for the JAKA2 barn representing ESR.

Another filly that appears to do her best running on the front end. Won listed four back going 9.5f on the lead in the slop where she is 3/3. Somewhat of a perplexing filly having run her career best two back with an impressive run finishing 2nd to HOF Swapsco Kitty w/107 SP in the G1 Chestnut going same distance here but coming up short last out in an ALW prep. Talented filly is getting quite a bit of respect by the oddsmaker at 10/1. Not sure this is her sweet spot but surely capable of getting a piece of the purse here.

3) EUCLA ASTATINE (KY) 11/1 – $272K (G3)

This nicely bred light grey filly by City Zip out of a Tapit mare goes out for the BREEDNSELL barn representing MIDAS.

Mid-pack runner that should be sitting behind the early pace setters here. Won her G3 two back in the Seiena with a 107 SP. Tried longer and stepping up in class last out in the G1 Sister Hen going 9f where she finished a respectable 4th with a 104 SP. This filly has been handled well by her connections and looks to be very dangerous cutting back to a mile here today.

4) FOREST ON THE MOON (BRZ) 16/1 – $160K (SP)

This bay filly by Forestry out of a Mr. Prospector mare goes out for the NICKYKING barn representing NORTHWEST RACING CIRCUIT.

This near the lead type has only 1 win and 3 third place finishes in 7 dirt tries thus far. Ran exclusively on turf as a 2 yo and made her dirt debut when she turned 3 where she has stayed since. However, her two best dirt efforts were in listed stakes going 9/9.5f where she hit the board on both occasions. Compelling filly that appears to want more than the mile here despite pedigree that would suggest otherwise. Would need to take a big step forward to hit the board in this spot. This tough looking filly took down the G1 Movieland Startlet at 2 and followed that up with another G1 badge winning the California Oaks four back at 3 where she ran a career best 107 SP. She will be sitting off the pace here and look to make a big move when they turn for home just as her mom did (HOLY BULB) in winning this same race back in 2014! However, this filly has had a much tougher campaign entering this race then mom having run in 8 grades including 6 x G1’s. Very dangerous on class but question what’s left in her tank at this juncture. Believe oddsmaker is spot on making her co-3rd choice.

6) NYAH (KY) 20/1 – $207K (G3)

This bay filly by Bodemeister out of a 49er mare goes out for the FREDDURST barn representing EUROPEAN UNION RACING ORGANIZATION.

If on her game, this filly will do her best running late. Was running well when she switched to dirt early this year at 3 winning three in a row including the G3 Timber Stakes going 8.5f on dirt with a 104 SP. However, dull in her last two runs since stepping up in class finishing 9th in both the G1 Chestnut and G2 First Stake Oaks. She took down a listed three back wiring the field and followed that up with another wire-to-wire victory in the G2 Mellow Breeze, both at this same mile distance. She was caught late in her last finishing 2nd in a G3 dirt mile back in May. This talented filly has been knocking at the door in looking to take that next class step with 2nd place finishes in a listed and G3 routing on dirt at 3 running a 103/106 respectively. Tired late in her last, a G3 going 8.5f on dirt with another 106 SP. She may enjoy the cutback to a flat mile and hang on for piece of the purse. Career best 107 SP in her last going 9f. Still seeking elusive stakes win and taking on graded company here cutting back to a mile. This classy filly is out of a superb mare (Bad Stella) that did her best running going 10f+ on dirt. Connections have done a wonderful job with this filly. She is coming off a monster run winning the G1 Sister Hen going 9f on dirt by open lengths last out. That splendid effort was on the heels of a G2 victory in the Black Middle Flower going 9f dirt two back. She is co-2nd choice here but not sure cutting back to a flat mile best suits her having done her best running going 9f+. Comes into this race still eligible for NW1X never having even run an ALW race, let alone stake level. Would take a behemoth effort to get a piece of the purse. Although this filly has won 7 out of 14 starts, she is only 1 for 3 in dirt routes. Her lone stakes win was a listed going 6.5f two back. Her lone route win was an ALW race last out going 8.5f on an off track with a 101 SP (career best).
