Perhaps their trainers were so enamored of the bar on the South Dakota backside that they forgot to visit the racing secretary. No matter, as the 5 horses that were entered should make this 9.5 furlong turf race a fun one. The track is firm, the purse is worth a cool $40 grand, and what a cool race name to have on those past performances. The stakes record of 1:54.4 was set by fab19’s Sky Turn To Black in the inaugural running.

Tipsy was a son of Kingmambo who earned three stakes wins and was multiply graded-placed in his 41-start career for a bankroll of just over $320k. He loved running on both tracks, as long as you didn’t ask him to sprint. Trainer pellegrino must have been sorry to retire him in 2004.

The rail horse is Descending, trained out of the sdmf1 stable. Zewango (of DelPenn/ARSE fame) has been struggling a bit with the horses lately, but this colt might just make up for it with a win here. The Peintre Celebre colt broke his maiden 4 back at 8.5, then was sent up to stakes company for the owner-restricted DPCD V Juvie Turf where he finished a well-beaten third shortening up to a mile. Sent up to 9 furlongs two starts ago, the colt basically told Z that short stuff was not his thing with a very encouraging closing third. Oddly Descending was dumped over on the main track for his most recent race. He ran his highest SP to date (81) but finishes six out of the way. Back on the green stuff, and getting extra ground, he should have a much better shot. The big question is whether he has the speed to make it all happen. 3-1 odds.

Cofavorite at 2-1 is Galactic Bomber. The Orientate colt is trained out of the focuslodge barn by none other than Nextbonus. The Bomber is the fourth offspring of two-time stakes winner Solar Storm, who did most of her racing damage around this distance. Bomber’s been getting real good real fast as he gets more ground, as evidence by his last start. The distance was 9.5, the field size was 6, and Bomber’s win margin was a lengthening 3 3/4. The 91SP he earned is among the top 20 for this age/surface/distance combination this year. He’s got a nice mid/deep closing style that should serve him very well as he moves up the ranks. Really nice horse with a bright future ahead. And that ain’t no lie.

GR Simster Tonno enters the aptly named Binge Drinker under the tonno200 barn silks. The Rakti colt is the 7-1 longshot, but don’t let that fool you. He’s just won 2 in a row, not bad for a colt with just starts to his name. He broke his maiden at a mile in a maiden claimer, but the 80SP was enough to earn a shot at allowance company. The colt loved it, judging by the 89 SP he put up at 9f. His lightly raced mama, Sloppy Rum, produced three other spring including a multiple stakes winner, so he’s got the pedigree and the class to get it done. I like that he’s well-rested (had 4 weeks off) and improving well with each step up both in distance and class. Hard to say if he can keep it going, but the trainer’s a good one and the horse so far has responded well to new challenges.

If you follow the 3-man entries every week, you’re likely to see the cream stable pop up as a frequent BP winner. No surprise, as he’s a darn good trainer with an enviable 21% win rate. Thus the entry of Rainbow Dress, set to break from post 4 as the 2-1 cofavorite, is of no surprise. The Rainbow Quest filly will be taking on the boys as she makes her fifth lifetime start. The filly won her first two starts handily, but in two stakes attempts has finished no better than third. The small field here won’t be much help, as she faced just 4 others last time out at a mile yet settled for third by 5 1/2 lengths. What might prove to be her salvation is the distance. She’s a winner at 9.5 (albeit in a allowance with a mere 79SP) but at least she’s proven that much. I like her, but doubt she’ll get her first stakes victory in this race.

The fifth and final entrant at 3-1 odds is vmsdinc3’s Unique. In this field, the E Dubai colt is one of a kind, as he has just three starts to his credit. He won handily by 2 at first asking going 8.5, then when pushed up to stakes class at 9 could only manage third with a dismal 9-length loss after setting a fast pace early. Last time out he went up to 9.5 furlongs, but the soft course was not to his liking, and he lost by nearly 11. Hard to say what he’ll manage here. He can clearly handle a route, but how far can he go? Will the experience gained in his prior three starts be enough to compensate for the comparative speed advantage his foes possess. He has three older siblings, one a graded winner and one a winner in the listed ranks, both turf routers. That’s got to count for something.

If I were to bet this race, I’d have a hard time doing anything but choosing Galactic Bomber and Descending to run 1-2. For third, I like the filly Rainbow Dress.

[2

post-3834","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-previews
["GET
