This old handicapper almost had it right as the eight year old proved to be the youngster of the senior citizen set and blew away the field! He was able to move into first place for the series but will be unable to race unless our host T. LOCK wins again to up the conditions of the rest of the races in the series. That is what makes this series so interesting. Now IRON GOLEM will have to wait it out and see if he can get back in to gather more points in the race to be the Old Man of the Mountain series Champion and garner all of the accolades that come with that. Certainly a nice thing to hang on your wall at the Old Horses Retirement Home!

The race was certainly not without it’s controversy as similar to that other famous contest AMERICAN IDOL, photos have surfaced of one of the more well known entrants in this series. A. CONTENDER has shown up in photos plastered around the internet swizzling Vermont’s own famous beer Long Trail Ale right before the race!

Trainer WindHmHill was quoted as saying, “If you ever have a horse running in Vermont don’t turn your back on him for a second. I don’t know who took the photo but rumor has it that Lilbitfarm was in the area with a cooler at about the same time. I may have to contact Mike.” Phone calls to both track management and game Godfather, Mike were unreturned at press time. This explosive development is sure to provide plenty of water cooler talk until the next race in the series.

In the race itself, pre race favorite BRATTICUS started the race like it was like it was buffet time at the Golden Corral and he wanted to be first in line. He eventually ran out of steam and finished a respectable fourth but barely within hailing distance of the leaders. That left it up to our three geezers who hit the board, the winner along with both THE COW’S MOO and BEER RUN , who outlasted the other runners in the race to the oxygen bar.

In a separate part of the race, in what may be called the Sun Dial Standings, the race for last place is almost as coveted in the win in this series for AARP card holders. Winner of the Sun Dial Trophy in the first series, CHARISMATIC DANCE , looked pretty spry in this race for an old timer and finished fifth from the end although he was more than 35 lengths behind the winner. SECOND STRIKE was even further back and controversial runner A. CONTENDER beat only BELL COGNAC who wheezed and geezed his way to a last place finish! There are rumors that he still hasn’t crossed the finish line!

  T. LOCK ended up being a good host and letting someone else win as he finished fifth. Because he didn’t win this time, that means the next race will be an allowance for NW1S and that counts out our Series leader. There are nine races left in the ten race series and lots of things can happen including quite a few heart attacks and strokes among the participants, so it should be interesting down the road. That’s what makes this series so much fun.. Stay tuned Race Fans!

Best of luck to all of these fine old guys and gals!

The Leader Standings in the series:

IRON GOLEM (Novajoe) 6 Points

THE COWS MOO (Eml1) 3 Points

BEER RUN (Greenirish) 1 Point

Sun Dial Standings in the series:

BELL COGNAC (Cabin) 6 Points

A.
