Welcome to <\/SPAN>France<\/SPAN><\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> and the 9th<\/SUP> running of the Felipe Alou Cap.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>A full field of fourteen has entered for a chance at the $250,000 purse.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Surprisingly missing are the marquis names in the division.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>For a grade two event, we do not have one previous graded winner so someone is going to go home a prouder and closer to a <\/SPAN>Derby<\/SPAN><\/st1:place><\/st1:City> start with some very badly needed stake points.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>The race record was set in 2005 by Tempest<\/B> with a time of 1:41 4\/5 but the race is really know for I Seek U\u2019s graded debut in 2003 where he finished 2nd<\/SUP> but then went on to\u2026well you know the rest.\u00a0 <\/SPAN><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

PJ Hercule P <\/SPAN><\/STRONG>looks like he just needed some time to fill out his frame a bit.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He seems to be developing nicely as he posted a 90 SP in his last start in an <\/SPAN><\/STRONG>Alw-14800NW2L where he finished second.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>His story though looks like a few of the other long shots as he has yet to win a race against other winners at any level.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>With this being his stakes debut, I just cant see betting his way without him showing more.<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/STRONG><\/SPAN><\/P>

6\/1<\/SPAN> KING SIM STAR(KY)<\/SPAN><\/STRONG><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/STRONG><\/P>

Trainer Warchant <\/I>has done an excellent job moving his colt along slowly but steadily.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He comes into this race a winner of four consecutive races that was capped off last time out in <\/SPAN><\/STRONG>The TABASCO WAVERING Special<\/A>-Stk.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He has shown improvement in just about every race and is adept at two turns.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He tacks on an extra half furlong in this one but I don\u2019t think that hurts his chances.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>A win or a good showing could set him up nice for a Derby Lock race in a few weeks.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Look for him to stalk the early pace and wear down the leaders.<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/STRONG><\/SPAN><\/P>

Jurassic Bone <\/SPAN><\/STRONG>has certainly reaped the rewards since moving from turf to dirt four races back.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>His record on the main track now stands at 4: <\/SPAN><\/STRONG>2-2-0<\/SPAN><\/STRONG><\/st1:date> including a win in his last attempt in <\/SPAN><\/STRONG>The WRITER ORANGE Stakes<\/A>-Stk where he won handily.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>His entrance here is no surprise as it seems that he is ready to show more and may be ready to step up in class.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He could be deadly if the pace of the opening half is slow.<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/STRONG><\/SPAN><\/P>

21\/1<\/SPAN> BOTTLED OIL(JPN)<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/STRONG><\/P>

Even at 21\/1 odds I think that <\/SPAN><\/STRONG>Bottled Oil <\/SPAN><\/STRONG>might have a decent run today.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Not a win or even hit the board but I think he\u2019ll beat more than his fare share.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>If you toss out his turf try two races back he\u2019s 3 for 5 and was never really tested in his last start.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>This may be his first real race where he\u2019ll face some serious competition.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>I would have liked to have seen a listed start for him first but I think this could still set up for future events.<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/STRONG><\/P>

6\/1<\/SPAN> HAMMER OF THE GODS(KY)<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/STRONG><\/P>

Hammer Of The Gods <\/SPAN><\/STRONG>looks to recover after a disappointing loss last time out in <\/SPAN><\/STRONG>The DARE TO SAY GO Stakes<\/A>-Stk.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>This Roman Ruler colt looked like a colt on the way up after posting three consecutive 90+ SP rated stake races which led to two wins.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Although he was a favorite in that last race, he was simply out run at the start and a bad trip never put him in contention.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>It was a noble loss though as the winner, Lucky\u2019s Capital<\/B>, went on to win the I’m Trying<\/A>-G2 just two weeks later.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He\u2019ll need to find a quick first step as his best races have come on or near the lead.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>I would think we\u2019ll see a better run from him this time and he\u2019s shown in the past that he can handle the class.<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/STRONG><\/SPAN><\/P>

12\/1<\/SPAN> DEPUTY’S BOLD(KY)<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/STRONG><\/P>

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/STRONG><\/P>

Deputy\u2019s Bold <\/SPAN><\/STRONG>is getting a little action at the window by virtue of the 97 SP he posted in his second place finish in an <\/SPAN><\/STRONG>Alw-46200NW2x.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>It was his first try at two turns this season and the colt seemed to respond well.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>However, it\u2019s still hard for me to get behind a horse who\u2019s only win was a MSW eight races back.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>His only other stakes attempt was back in September where he finished 11th<\/SUP> in a listed event.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>After seven unsuccessful tries in the allowance ranks, there doesn\u2019t seem like there is much hope in a graded race.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He\u2019ll need to show he deserves to be here before he gets my $2.<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

9\/1<\/SPAN> KING OF MUD(KY)<\/SPAN><\/STRONG><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/STRONG><\/P>

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/STRONG><\/P>

After being stuck in second gear for the longest time, <\/SPAN><\/STRONG>King Of Mud <\/SPAN><\/STRONG>finally showed what he is capable of in his last start in <\/SPAN><\/STRONG>The STOSCH Special<\/A>-Stk.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>His 96 SP was 10 point jump from his previous best and he really needed that run as his previous race to that didn\u2019t show much promise.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>However, he\u2019s not getting much buzz as many in the press corps are still asking if he can repeat that performance or was it just a freak race?\u00a0 <\/SPAN>I\u2019ll give him the benefit of the doubt and say that he\u2019ll be in the thick of it.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He\u2019ll likely charge to the early lead but will have to hold off a slew of hard closers in the stretch.<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/STRONG><\/SPAN><\/P>

PP 8 <\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

13\/1<\/SPAN> BOSS HOG LAGO(AUS)<\/SPAN><\/STRONG><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/STRONG><\/P>

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/STRONG><\/P>

You win four stake races, finish off the board only twice in eleven lifetime starts and what does that get you???\u00a0 <\/SPAN>13\/1 odds.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN><\/SPAN><\/STRONG>Boss Hog Lago <\/SPAN><\/STRONG>just doesn\u2019t seem to be getting much respect in this one.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Although the record speaks for itself, he still hasn\u2019t sold everyone.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>His critics mainly state that he\u2019s been properly placed but even that\u2019s the case you have to give a hand to his trainer Bill2shoe <\/I>for finding the right spots for his colt.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He\u2019ll certainly be challenged in this one and is coming off an eight week layoff.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>I do like the added .5 furlong though as his Achilles Heel has been that he drops way back and often fires extremely late.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Keep an eye on him.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He might surprise.<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/STRONG><\/P>

9\/1<\/SPAN> IRONSIDE(KY)<\/SPAN><\/STRONG><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/STRONG><\/P>

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/STRONG><\/P>

Drawing identical odds, <\/SPAN><\/STRONG>Ironside <\/SPAN><\/STRONG>and <\/SPAN><\/STRONG>King Of Mud <\/SPAN><\/STRONG>almost looks like identical horses.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Both were non-mentions until their last race where they suddenly woke up and tore off a career best race and are coming off stake wins in their last outing.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>They even have identical front running styles.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>However, <\/SPAN><\/STRONG>King Of Mud <\/SPAN><\/STRONG>might have a slight edge in breeding but that\u2019s basically it.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>For this horse to be successful here he\u2019ll need to take the lead unchallenged while hopefully leaving something in the tank for the home drive.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Still, I have to question his stamina and even more so if an eventual 10 furlong <\/SPAN><\/STRONG>Derby<\/SPAN><\/STRONG><\/st1:place><\/st1:City> run is in his path.<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/STRONG><\/P>

16\/1<\/SPAN> EMPEROR SQUALL(KY)<\/SPAN><\/STRONG><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/STRONG><\/P>

Emperor Squall <\/SPAN><\/STRONG>is one of those horses who you have absolutely no idea what he\u2019s going to bring.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>His sire Empire Maker is known for late developing horses and that seems to show as he is getting better with each race.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>However, he takes on two turns for the first time today and only has one MSW win in his four race career.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He finished a close second in his last try in <\/SPAN><\/STRONG>The GLEN PROJECT Special<\/A>-Stk but that was at 7 furlongs.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He\u2019s a 3×3 cross with Storm Bird and 4x4x4 with Northern Dancer so it\u2019s hard to really say how he\u2019ll fare at 8.5 furlongs.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Then again, you could just toss all that out the window and say he\u2019ll outrun everyone.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Flip a coin here.<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/STRONG><\/SPAN><\/P>

PP 11 <\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

29\/1<\/SPAN> GO YOU SHARKIES(AUS)<\/SPAN><\/STRONG><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/STRONG><\/P>

Grabbing the honors of longest odds on the board, <\/SPAN><\/STRONG>Go You Sharkies <\/SPAN><\/STRONG>needs some desperate help from the Sims gods.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>After taking nine races to finally win his maiden, he makes a dramatic jump in class to graded company.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>I will give this much at least:\u00a0 <\/SPAN>he has improved with each of his last three starts and is getting close in speed to some of the others.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>However, without any testing against winners of any level I just can\u2019t see him in this at the end.<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/STRONG><\/P>

PP 12 <\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

10\/1<\/SPAN> KASHMIR<\/SPAN><\/STRONG><\/st1:place> HEX(IRE)<\/SPAN><\/STRONG><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/STRONG><\/P>

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/STRONG><\/P>

Kashmir Hex <\/SPAN><\/STRONG>came into his last race in <\/SPAN><\/STRONG>The DARE TO SAY GO Stakes<\/A>-Stk with a nine week layoff.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He responded extremely well though and just missed winning by \u00bc length to the above mentioned Lucky\u2019s Capital<\/B>.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>More important, he finished a clear six lengths ahead of Hammer Of The Gods <\/B>and at a mouth-watering 10\/1 odds he really looks like a good bet in his second start after the layoff.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>His running style also looks to set up nice here as he\u2019ll likely sit mid-pack before making his move and after going up against an eventual graded winner his stock has certainly gone up in my book.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>I\u2019ll make this my long shot of the day and you would be advised to find a way to box him on your trifecta ticket somewhere.\u00a0 <\/SPAN><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/STRONG><\/SPAN><\/P>

Lucky #13 <\/SPAN><\/STRONG>Sestriere <\/SPAN><\/STRONG>moves up slightly in distance to tackle two turns once again.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He is fresh off a win last time out in the 7.5 furlong <\/SPAN><\/STRONG>The ARCTIC PROSPECTOR Cap<\/A>-Stk but questions of stamina have been asked this week.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>His only two other tries at a mile or longer have not fared well for him.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>However, it\u2019s that explosive 96 SP that he posted in that last race that has gathered some attention.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>The big questions are whether he can handle the distance or is he just a late developing colt who is just now coming into his best strides.<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/STRONG><\/SPAN><\/P>

Our morning line favorite, <\/SPAN><\/STRONG>Achaemenes<\/SPAN><\/STRONG>, once again finds himself starting on the outside.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He was riding a three race listed stake win streak going into his last race in the <\/SPAN><\/STRONG>Risen Star Stakes-G3 but he lost a step coming out of the #13 gate and never recovered.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Prior to that start however, he was looking extremely good after posting a 99 SP in The City Watch<\/A>-Stk .\u00a0 <\/SPAN>The off track probably didn\u2019t help things either and he finds perfect conditions in this race.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He has a late charging style so don\u2019t look for him until the final two furlongs but needs a win here to remain in the <\/SPAN>Derby<\/SPAN><\/st1:place><\/st1:City> hunt.<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/STRONG><\/SPAN><\/P>
