The card boasts four stakes races and a huge crowd is expected. Many snowbirds have flown down from the frigid north to enjoy the wonderful weather. There’s always much to see when visiting the Sunshine State and Gulf Creek Park is a must! This event is the last on the card and draws a full field. Could be some big prices here, so let’s take a look.

BLACK BLAZER(KY) 45793 simsters7

6/1 GR Simster guys bred this colt to Pine Bluff and have produced a very nice sprinter. Colt won 1st out and followed that win a nice 2nd in Smackdown II. He has finished ITM in three other stakes events, so he fits well here. Looking to his record it appears this is the distance he prefers and should be tough. Likes to lay back a bit and has a lot of speed to run at. He should pass quite a few in the stretch run.

GROSSE ISLE(FL) 122281 wolverine

10/1 No in between for this colt. He either wins or watches his rivals. Three of his wins are listed stakes from 5.5f to a mile. He likes to run close to the pace and hopes the pacemaker spits the bit. If he cannot get position early, it appears he chokes down from getting dirt to the face. Jockey is weak, but all he has to do is get the colt out of the gate and let him run. All that said, he should get a check of sorts.

CAT FIVE CYCLONE(KY) 117205 ydracing3

6/1 Scratch bred Mr. Greely colt coming off a very nice win in Japan. Although a listed stake, it was at the distance today, and he won with authority. Colt has cashed checks in graded runs before, but it appears distance didn’t suit. If he wins this, it will be the 1st graded winner by sire Mr. Greeley in his five years as sim stud. Taking that into account it’s hard to pick him to win.

THE LONELY BEAR(ARG) 131628 southwest

46/1 Colt has been isolated since wk3070 and is lonely. Started off nicely with a Maiden win in 1st start as a 2yo. Second start (and last before this) he finished last in a four horse field. Bargain sire has produced nothing but claimers to date. Will continue being lonely until properly placed:)

WOETTE’S HOPE(KY) 78510 derbystud

10/1 Hope floats, that’s for sure. Sire Strong Hope started off in the sim with two graded winners in his 1st crop. Last year’s crop only produced two listed stakes winner to date. This colt had a nice win in his 1st start as a 3yo posting his best SP to date. Although an allowance NW3X, he won with authority and should boost his confidence. Usually 5-6 lengths back, he relies upon the pace backing up. In his present form, he could prove to be scary. Jockey Bellows will need to get him into position early for the turn for home.

OTTO AMAZING(KY) 120184 bodgit

12/1 Wiley trainer cutting back on distance should prove to be a good move. Only two sprint tries equals a win, and place. Many options for this youngster after completion of this race. His lone try on turf proved promising. Trainer knows how to win for sure, and studies his animal’s results well. Curious to see if he sends this guy out for the lead to test that venue. Colt has a good jock that holds his rides together nicely.

THUNDER GOES BOOM(KY) 58278 ticketman0

35/1 Colt has shown a little boom in various listed stakes events. He should make a decent runner, but we would have to believe this race is stretching it a bit. After a ten week layoff from 2yo season, he came back in last to run fourth in a five horse allowance race. I can’t hear thunder here.

DUMANJI(KY) 96668 kindone5

14/1 Decent allowance type runner who probably should have found a NW2L to run this week. Sire Dumaani hasn’t produced a listed stakes winner in his five years as sim stud, let alone a graded. One would have to think this may be a glorified workout for his next race. 🙂

O.C. MATT(KY) 95252 theoc

5/1 Speedball colt sired by Afleet Alex. Retired mare used to produce this colt had her racing career cut short with only five races. Trainer saw a breeder, not a racer. Her blood runs thick with champion’s genes although she couldn’t run a lick. If this colt can get a little distance between himself and the pack, he has a good chance to take all. “If” is a big two letter word, and if he can’t he’ll be hearing a lot of hooves on his outside. Jock Barrett usually rates these types well, so he’s got a chance.

RIO SECCO(KY) 120927 fatattack2

5/1 We are now entering the realm of trainer-of-the-year. With a 28% win factor, and not giving his horses more than they can handle, this colt is well placed. He finished 3rd to Morph The Cat in a G1 at NJ on wk3070 going six panels closing well. That was his last race as a 2yo; then trainer decided to work conditions in his first two starts as a 3yo. Both starts were at today’s distance which probably means the colt was pointed to this race. He should prove to be a handful here. Jock Buchta should give the colt a good ride and be right there at the end.

BERMUDA(KY) 116413 super7

6/1 Nice way to start a career as a two year old! Broke maiden 1st out, followed by back to back G3 wins! Tried a couple of distance events with complete disaster. Stable was smart enough to not ride that train, and came back to what the colt likes best…sprint. Started off 3yo season with duplicate G3 sprints and finished with a win and place in those. Top jock will get everything this colt has to offer. There’s an itch that one can’t quite reach though. Can this colt get the extra furlong? Not stating he can’t, but the itch is there.

SUPERMAN(KY) 120946 waremblem5

9/1 Security is on patrol day and night; as rumor has it someone is trying to smuggle Kyrptonite into the shedrow areaJ Storm Cat speedball that will certainly contest the pace. With two listed stake wins as a 2yo, this colt seems to know no other way. With the post he drew, there is no other way. Decent 1st out as a 3yo prepped him some for this venture. He will need to pull out all reserve in this and increase SP at least 10pts. to factor in this. Has the blood, needs to let it flow.

CHIEF ACCOUNT(JPN) 28582 yuengling

27/1 Trainer’s name says he/she resides in PA. Yuengling Lager has been brewed in Pottsville, PA since 1829. We have a case of it sitting in the garage at present. It has a brilliant amber color, holds a head well, and has a smooth rich taste. After writing that, I’m off to the garage! Burp, excuse me. Ohhh, the horse…a Silver Charm colt that has one race and one win. That was in a RODOT race, field of eight. The field didn’t have much in the way of competition, so it would be hard to say the colt has any chance here. However, pop open a brewski and enjoy watching the race.

I NEED A LOAN(ITY) 125469 jdawg11

99/1 Lone filly in this, trainer has credit card problems and hopes to pick up minor check to pay off debt. Not!! Filly has shown some promise at nine panels, but certainly not of this caliber.
