Race of The Day: Texas MSW 11/24

The youngsters are racing in Texas and this race features Texan bred fillies that are two years old. They will be testing out a mile route and will be running on the soil. All are maidens, but by the end of the day, one will not be. Who will it be?

1 September Valentin 6/1-Filly has two starts, one on each surface and speeds in mid-60 range. She showed some desire to run late in last, which was on the dirt at 5f. Extends quite a bit and if she is a late runner, may turn out to be right move.

2 Silver Burns 16/1-Makes third career start with first two being on dirt where she was not impressive with mid-40 speeds in short sprints. She was third in her most recent start, but that was small four horse field. Testing route distance but doesn’t look to likely that she’ll benefit from longer distance.

3 Texas Rein 6/1-Has run four times this year in an even mix of turf and dirt events. She has a pair of seconds on the dirt and pair of thirds running on the turf. Her last was in a residency event going 7f scoring a speed of 69 on the dirt, missing by a long neck. Dangerous with generous odds.

4 Turko’s Heart 4/1-After a pair of seconds on the grass this lady will re-explore the dirt. Her first three career starts came on the soil where she finished third twice running a speed of 66 in her last try in July. She’s developing as a late runner and the mile distance looks like a promising suit for her.

5 Mesa Girl 19/1-Makes first career start and comes out of game mare Fort Worth Issue who earned one win in five dirt starts. She’s sired by Mesa Sunrise who has had a good turnout this year with 50% of his 2-year old offspring winning races this season in an even mix of dirt and grass races. Last years crop favored sprints so a mile may be a challenge out of the gate.

6 Notohmeonsunday 6/1-Two sour outcomes on the dirt during the summer led to the testing of the turf in October which also yielded unfavorable results. She’s finished well off the lead in each of her starts but did show hints of running late in her last effort. Needs to prove self before earning support.

7 Sky Romance 4/5-Makes her second career start and the oddmakers like the 74 speed she ran at 8.5 furlongs in her debut so much they’ve made her the favorite. In that race she finished fourth as the second choice in the twelve horse field. If the speed holds up, this race could be hers.

I think the race is closer than the odds reflect. I like the effort by Texas Rein in last and the extra distance will help, top choice.

Turko’s Heart can’t be ruled out as she returns to dirt and she’ll be flying at the end, second pickings.

Sky Romance had nice speed and if she is real, she takes this, but she can be beat.

The youngsters are racing in Texas and this race features Texan bred fillies that are two years old.
